..... Seriously? Another thread about a gay romance for Commander Shepard? I mean... wow. Never going to see it in Mass Effect, sorry. It would mean canon Shepard, as in the one you see in all the material could be Gay. He isn't, and personally it doesn't bother me one bit. Its a video game, none of the romances really interest or effect me either way. I can think of far more important things going on in the world to be miffed about than the lack of a certain romance option in a video game. I mean... c'mon.

I don't think I've read a thread that inspires more of a facepalm response than this one. Sorry. =\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Yet we have the supposedly non-canon Renegade path through the game, as well as the supposedly non-canon female Shepard.  Justify those ones, please?

Same way I justify Revan having the possiblity to return to his Sith lord roots and not go and jump into bed with Carth Onasi. Its called Light and Dark. You get to play the bad guy if you really want to, even if its not the "canon" storyline. It personalizes it for you, its your storyline. Also I resent the idea that I believe you can't do certain things if you gay. I'm bi for god sakes, what I'm saying is I think there are more important concerns in life and in this game than the love interest you chose.

I mean seriously, all this disgruntled behavior because you can't romance a male character with a male Shepard. Hell even the female/female relationships were put in this game to cater to the broader audience who enjoys that sort of thing, and I'm not talking about the lesbian community either. <_< If you want to bash me simply because I don't agree with your crusade on the matter, and how you refuse to let it go even though all I'm telling you to do is calm down, take it as it comes and just deal with it then thats your problem.  By canon I meant the promotional Shepard obviously, whom they'll never risk putting in bed with another male. Look at the hatred and bigotry in the world and you'll see why. Even the option for male/male romance would make a certain audience not buy the game, and Bioware is trying to appeal to all, including the knuckle draggers.

You really want to start the Revan's not a man arguement?

Really?

Really?

You did know that their was no set canon until someone that wasn't from BioWare or Obsidian butted in right?

Honestly leave that alone.

Just...leave it alone.

That wasn't even BioWare's doing.  <_<

Dragon Age: Origins. Search "Zevran" from YouTube. It's quite suggestive, and the man hits on you almost aggressively. So yes, it's been done, and ME2 is a step backwards in this field.

While it doesn't personally touch me, I prefer to see options cartered to all kinds of people, and gay gamers aren't an entirely insignificant market.

I stand corrected.

It doesn't matter though. It's the second game of three, and Shepard has already been through two relationships, would they really allow going gay in ME3? I don't believe so.

OMG, i died a little when i read the first post. Are you being serious? It's a goddamn game. If you're so eager to have sex with some dude then open your ****ing door and go outside. **** like this really pisses me off. Some people attach wayyy to much value to pixelated romances :/

He wouldn't be "going gay" though. For some he's never had a relationship because someone who shared his preferences hadn't come along. That's all.

Shepard may or may not have been through two relationships. In either case, nothing precludes him from having a same-sex romance in the future.

Why not? Happens plenty in real life; plenty of people realize only after years of opposite-sex relationships that they're actually more into their own sex.

It happens if there's enough demand for it. Considering the levels of outrage going about, I could easily see it happening,at least if the activism continues for more than a couple of weeks.

Remember that all the relationship subplots have been completely optional. There is no necessity to play any of them. So Shepard most certainly doesn't have to "go gay" out of the blue, either. It's all about maximising the options for the sake of personalising the character as much as possible, which has been the goal of Mass Effect since the beginning. Rather than "why", the question ought to be "why not?"

No I was actually stating that you would never see a male/male romance in a Bioware game set in Star Wars either, with Male Revan and Carth. Not to mention Carth whined a bit too much for my taste in KOTOR. But I know what you're saying, I'm just trying to wrap my head around why its such a worry for you guys. They won't risk putting Promotional Shepard in a Male/Male Romance situation, it would ****** off a certain audience that buys games that I'm not going to mention, lets just say I'm annoyed everytime I encounter them online or on forums... *sigh* But anyway, I'm just saying lighten up because there's things that are far more worrysome than a male/male romance in a video game.

Star Wars "has no homosexuals" google that and see what pops up.

Oh and google Juhani's half baked lesbian option.

BioWare never fails to put those in. *sighs* At least that one wasn't bloody fanservice.

Do you intentionally misunderstand me or what? I said I am Bi for gods sakes and I could care less if there's a male/male romance, because there are bigger issues. I know there are homosexuals in EU, like those two Mandalorians during that whole storyline where Boba Fett was helping Jaina. I was saying you wouldn't see a male/male romance in a Star Wars game made by Bioware. The Dragon Age thing was throwing that audience a bone. They're  mainstreaming Mass Effect 2, and trying to appeal to a broader audience. They won't risk putting promotional shepard in a male/male romance situation, or risk alienating a broader audience with a male/male romance just to appease a smaller percentage of people.

You do realize Bioware have done Gay relationships before right? And not just once or twice. And, yes, they have done male/male relationships before.

Proof.

That's from Jade Empire, but you'll find Dragon Age had them too.

You decide what Shepard is. No one but you decides. Any time a developer decides on Canon ideas for any game in which a character's personality, looks and gender are wholly dependant on the player to create it's just ridiculous.

"Canon -this- was male and canon -this- was -that- and canon this did -that-" despite the players being able to do inumerable other things . . . it's just silly to hear from a developer anything to the tune of, "Yeah, you could do 'anything' but of all that anything you could do we've randomly decide 'only these things' actually happened."

That doesn't sound nuts at all.

Alright then we both misunderstood each other. I understand you trying to get a choice, I just think there's better things to put time and effort into, things that actually have a possiblity of happening, since this one is like, slim to none chance of actually happening.

What about her? It actually really irks me that my Shepard can if she wants have a bi or gay relationship, but her male counterpart can't. Isn't the character of Shepard supposed to be just Shepard? Why does Shepard's gender changes the rules?

That's what is not fair. IF Shepard is only supposed to be heterosexual then please remove the girl/girl option.... Or add a male/male option. Otherwise it's just hypocrisy.

For the last bloody time. Shep is not gay or straight that is left to the player. Not having sex with anyone =/= straight.

Jeez.

Pargonized jack? I hope they don't end up with her being emo. That...would suck. I wouldn't mind if she lost the bloodthirstiness but kept the b****iness

What do you call it when female shepard and Liara can have sex in ME1

Personally, I think if bioware decides to include a lesbian romance in a game but no gay romance it's a bit weird but check out dragon age if you will, gay scene between male elf and male character is available.:o

Yes they do. The Codex calls them an "all-female race". If somebody looks like a woman, sounds like a woman, acts like a woman and works biologically like a woman, then she is a woman, even if she is a mono-gendered alien. If you romance Liara as Femshep, Kaidan will comment how he didn't know you were into other women.

I don't recall the details, I just remember something along the lines of "not specific". I'll have to replay that. I wouldn't have thought genderless unless something gave me the idea. I swore Liara did.

If you play as a woman, she may reassure you that she's not "technically" a woman, and therefore OK to have relationship with, even if Femshep is uncertain about her sexuality.

But really, for all practical thoughts and purposes that's bull. The asari refer to each other as mothers, daughters and sisters. They use the feminine pronoun. They get pregnant and nurse their children. They have feminíne appearance and mannerism. To say that they are anything but women is pure denialism.

Asari don't have gender, yes, but they do have a sex, and that sex is female. Asari simply lack gender because there is only one gender (making the concept of gender nonexistant as they never had to define themselves that way until they met aliens).

But, gender is (as so noted about) a cultural concept. Asari are sexually female. Both in appearance and functionality.

Explain this then. If say, gay men relationships were implemented, then how would I be able to make a relationship with a female while also making buddies with some of the guys; all without making the guys think I'm bi? I think the dialog system would be much harder to work.

The Codex is very specific in calling them an "All Female Race."
