I believe Bioware should stick with the current slate of romancable characters instead of introducing even more in ME2 DLC or Mass Effect 3, or risk losing the forest for the trees. Having a same-sex romance in just one game in the trilogy wouldn't be worthwile for those interested, barring a major increase in character interaction.

They need to introduce new LI for those that did not play ME1 and ME2 or stayed single in those two games anyway, and the fight for the love group proves that a lot of people will find it worthwile if it is in the third game.

First of all, I can't imagine who would want to play ME3 without having played 1 & 2. That's like reading Return of the King without bothering with what came before. And of course I'm sympathetic to same-sex romances (Hilmer Shepard's boyfriend is back on Earth while he's out saving the galaxy and all), but I'm not convinced it can be done in a satisfactory way this late in the current trilogy. The current romances aren't developed enough for my tastes, so I'd like to see those continued rather than adding a new underdeveloped one.

Leaves the singels, and even some of the  players who played through the other two games and romanced someone will want a new option. So I am pretty sure that ME3 will contain atleast one new character of each sex who is available for romance and those could easily be made available for both Shepards.

True. Yay for more Romances. <3

Awakening isn't going to have any. :(

Anders better have a shirtless scene to make up for that! :crying:

I would argue against your estimates of prevalence of gay ppl, even if 8% of the population may fall into your categories does not automatically mean 8% of all gamers are gay its a selective population within the overal, not a random sample

Mass effect 2 sold over 2,000,000 units, not $2,000,000 in sales. At $56 a unit that comes to $112,000,000 in revenue.

And they probably don't make 56 bucks per unit. >_> Publishing fees and the whole nine yards probably takes a decent sized chunk of that 60 dollar game price.

Regardless it makes no difference either way. The game wouldn't have tanked with the inclusion of MM and its not suddenly selling 2x as much due to the exclusion of MM.

I thought 35.000 sales was a conspicuously low number... now I see my doubts weren't unfounded. Never been good at math, gay or otherwise.

ok. here is somehting to account for.

Romances are a bonus, not a reason why 99.9% of the people play mass effect.

Remove romance in the 3rd and i doubt anyone would care.

I would care. I have too much time invested in LIs. If it turns out that LIs are gone in ME3, I would certainly not buy it. What people fail to understand is that this is a trilogy and that doesn't mean that there are 3 independent titles in the same franchise. So, if there is a f/f LI in ME1, but not in ME2/M3 then customers will be disappointed, whether you like it or not. And yes, asari are mono-gendered/not asexual, blablabla, etc. Ít doesn't make sense from a continuation point of view either. There aren't many popular games that even care for this group. BioWare does. And yes DA:O has better support, but ME1 held the door open and closed it again in ME2. That's not really fair (whatever the reason behind it).

Do I personally care? Even though I am hetero I like the f/f LI and I am not interested in m/m, but I understand that others are. It's fine by me. And no I don't need to come out of the closet, because I am not in it. ;)

There is another problem as well. The BW fanatics seem to be extremely hostile towards any critique, even though the developers encourage critique and consider it part of the game development and design. Then there are also a lot of homophobes who believe that hostility is the norm. This forum is a home to fans of different nationalities as well. And of course there are also cultural differences between countries which cause some countries to be more hostile towards the LGBT community. There are still countries in the world that prosecute members of that community. BioWare is Canadian and it appears to me that they are more open to this group than for an example countries in South America. I don't even dare to say the US, otherwise I've started WW4 on these forums. All those different cultures are present here and that makes these forums great, but sometimes a complete nightmare. It's not that I have a solution, but it is something to think about.

lol.

Their have been extensive market studies done on that and it isn't always true.

Somehow, I doubt Foxnews talking about a game that lets you have gay sex with an alien is going to garner increased sales from the gamer demographic.

I'd love to see these market studies if you have any links available, thanks.

Honestly, I'd love to see any instance of any controversy ever affecting any sales of any games, ever.  People keep bringing this up as a reason why Bioware might not have wanted to put gay content in the ME-verse, and I keep asking for any evidence of this, and no one ever has any.

Would you really be stupid enough not to buy the game if it included same sex romance of the male variety?

Chicks can do it already. If you're against it enough not to buy the game, you wouldn't have even checked into the series.

And if you have, go into the corner you damn hypocrite.

Wow...quite an analogy there.

How about:

"I'd like 1 ticket to Avatar"
"Sure, $10 please"
"Wait..is the main character going to have gay sex with one of the big blue males"?
"What?  ...errr....I don't think so..."
"Can you get the director to change the movie so he does?"
"Excuse me?"
"I'd like to have my sexuality validated when I watch this movie."
"Sorry, I can't do that."
"So you descriminate against Gays!"

Is anyone here seriously suggesting that any REASONABLE person on either side of this will or will not buy the game based on the inclusion of a gay male/male romance option?  I'd be willing to guess that the suggestion is being made by someone that just might not pass the REASONABLE test....*shrug*

Wow, the forum is very flaky.

As you could probably guess by the number of posts, most people will buy the game regardless of whether m/m is included or not, because they already fell for it the first two times.

Nevertheless, your analogy is still bad....  This would be closer.

"Would you like to buy this pen?  You can use it to write whatever you want.  Oh, well, you can't use it to write the word 'sunshine,' but no one wants to write that word anyway."
"What?  Can I write 'sunlight?'  Or 'moonshine?'"
"Oh, sure.  Just not 'sunshine' because that combination of letters might offend some people."
"What? That makes no sense.  It's the same letters, just in a different order."
"Well, historically, some people have heard bad things about 'sunshine' way in the past.  It's almost socially acceptable now, but we just can't take that risk.  We don't want to offend people."
"Who cares?  I brought the pen.  You said I could write whatever I wanted to.  What difference does it make if that word offends other people?  It's not like the pen is going to suddenly get up and start writing offensive words.  I have total control over it, if I don't want to do it, I won't."
"No, we don't want people to have the opportunity to be offended, so we just made it so the pen won't write that way.  It's just a small change, you'll never notice.  Really."
".... "

You're joking right?

You realize that the no romances in Awakening group is going to be FAR worse in a few weeks right?

Oh God. That's going to be comedy gold. XD

"I wanna romance Anders! This sucks! Screw you BioWare!" :crying:

Or "What the hell!?! Why can't I keep my DLC items! You suck BioWare I'm never buying DLC again!"

Have you seen the Awakening forums at the moment with the no-DLC/Ultimate Sacrifice debacle?

Physically painful to read.

What I think is great is that the community managers obviously get to a point where the just throw their hands in the air and go, "Sod it." and just walk away. "WHY DUZN'T BIOWARE RESPUND!?"... oh gee, guys, I have no idea.

You have to admit though BioWare dropped the ball on that one. Doesn't deserve the amount of nerdrage but still. The ball was dropped. (I actually have 5 characters that did the US so that harpy couldn't get what she wanted. And another 5 who sacrificed the secret character. I better not be retconned into giving her that demonspawn :crying: )

I don't blame BioWare for not responding though. If I had made such an epic fail I wouldn't respond either.

XPack might still be gold but no romances/no DLC/cameos (and we know that this point what cameos means to BioWare) and you're looking at a $40 dollar sidequest with no returning companions except Oghren (who I actually *killed* and if he resurects like the US Warden I will rage). So Like Yeah.

Storyline could be GOLD and soem people will still hate it at this point.

Any scandal increases sales. People will come to see what all the fuss is about. It happened with Mass Effect 1, if you remember.
