Seriously people talk about him acting like a Robot, He's a damn alliance marine a serious bad ass. you think he's gonna be like joker or Kaiden? he's not a robot he's  a damn serious kind of  guy.

But i'm sure lots of people also dislike him because he doesn't have boobies and a vagina =\\

Most of that talk was silenced with the relesase of ME2. Even some of the most ardent haters have admitted his preformance much improved.

I wasn't aware there was hate. I liked Male Shepard just fine. Though it bothered me he could romance all the female squadmates.

I liked Mark Meer's performance in the first game, which is probably why I didn't notice much of an "improvement" this time. He clearly emotes a bit more, but people act as though that were necessary for the performance to be "good." Shepard is a goddamn special forces marine, then an elite galactic supercop, and then a renegade secret agent. That's like saying David Hayder needs to be more emotive when Solid Snake is snapping some dude's neck.

yea seriously, Shepard is like a non stealth Solid snake. people expect him to be so emotional. He's SERIOUS, the world is at stake and theres no time for goofing off (Sex doesnt count as goofing off)

Well, unless you're an Infiltrator, in which case you're pretty much a younger version of Metal Gear Solid 4 Snake. Ah, if only there was a headband helmet option.

He's a guy who has to pick what he says with a wheel, that'd make me a little serious too.

You forgot to add 'in my opinion'.

Same thing could be said about Hale being worse than Meer... OPINIONS.

Meer did a much better job this time around. Very few flat lines delivered. The only weird moments I've experienced are when certain emotional inflections don't quite match the conversation due to the way the wheel stitches them together. But that's not the VA's fault.

yea, if anything I blame it on the wheel, doing some lines in random orders sounds weird.

the one thing that buigged me the most was helping the Slave girl calm down 4 times in a row "Im gonna take a step closer, is that ok?" XD

I don't like male Shephard because of the voice actor.

Mark Meer has definitely improved from the first Mass Effect game. The problem is not that he should be emotional all the time, as some people are suggesting. It's when there is a particularly emotional moment that Male Shepard seems to be a bit... distant. Say, when you hug Tali after she discovers her father's body or when he makes a speech about how important it is to defeat the collectors.

Again, he has improved and it's definitely better in Mass Effect 2. The guy is a good voice actor, and the proof is that he also does the voice acting for other NPCs. Like a previous poster said, it could be because of the dialogue wheel that sort of makes it seem like Male Shepard is supposed to say something in an angry or loving tone.

I do think Jennifer Hale did a better job than Mark, but they're both excellent voice actors and i'm very much glad that they were chosen for the roles of Male and Female Shepard.

I've always played first with a male character and afterwards with a female character.

Why? Is Mark Meer a Nahtzee, necrophiliac, or something else horrible I didn't know about? He does an acceptable, if not excellent job. If you just dislike his voice, well, there's nothing he can really do about that.

You could say he's a little stiff, but I think his redeeming factor (at least for Paragon Shepard) is that he sounds like the kind of guy who would be in the military. I knew a couple of guys in high school who were dead set on the military (particularly the Marines) who were just like that. Then again, I've never played a Renegade male Shepard, but I can see how that voice might be somewhat lacking there.

Agreed. I like him because it sounds like someone you could believe to be a military man. He's meant to be a grizzled, experienced military veteran, not sound like an emotional teenager! Can sound a bit stiff or gruff in a few places, but I think he's good overall.

I don't think Mark Meer's performance is bad: he's just a different actor than Jennifer Hale, so he has a different perspective on the character. Look at any character that's been portrayed by more than one actor in a movie: Batman/Bruce Wayne for instance has had many different actors throughout the live action movies and cartoon series, all of them with much different ways of portraying the character.

When Meer and Hale are acting as Shepard, they are staring at a piece of paper with words before the character is ever rendered. It's completely up to their imagination how Shepard would look and sound in response to these written situations. Two different people, two different interpretations of the script, that's it. Whether you prefer Meer or Hale's take is a matter of personal taste.

the most common answer is 'hale > meer', but the most true answer is "i'd rather look at a girl's ass than a guy's".

Mordin respects your amorous feelings, but rejects you.

I think he's as close to a bisexual as Salarians get.
