The dark ritual is so specific and such a possible world shaking event that I don't see how it can possibly be ignored in any sequel.
Which ending should a possible sequel of DA use? (Spoiler)

I'm not really sure... You have both the opportunity to make or not to make it... and the final is very different depending on this... This means to me that is not such a overriding event for future sequels...
Concerning cannon ending I trust it should be the most senseless idea ever... Should I have to play again 1st campaign using a walkthrough just to reach the cannon ending with would be the only "playable" ending in a sequel? Or should I forget what I did in my first campaign only beacuse they will say "Well it was just a dream.. forget it.. This is what REALLY happened".... impossible !!!!
I agree with 1st option of KahnyaGnorc, that is
1. Continuing the same campaign. Same main character (if survived), same player choices (including which companions are with you). Easiest way to do this is having your character and the companions still with her/him in another land. That way, the geopolitical decisions would have a far smaller impact, possibly minor sidequests or some NPC interactions. This is the preferred choice for me.
This is the more probable option... unless they will put a sequel several years after DAO so that we will have to begin everybody with new characters....
