Hi all, I got the game a little while ago. I have a 5.1 speaker set-up. When I start the game, the logos play back out of all the speakers, but when it gets to the main menu sound only comes out of the two front speakers. It stays that way in the game as well. And in the sound options menu there are only volume controls, no speaker selection; which leads me to believe that this will need to be fixed in the ini file. Does anyone know what to do?
Surround sound won't work.

Four things.
1st, check and make sure that your drivers are updated.
2nd, check the DA:O configuration utility and make sure you didn't accidentally check the "Force Stereo" box.
3rd, Confirm in the DA:O config utility under System > Sound > Global Settings. Make sure it shows surround sound rather than something else.
4th, if all else fails: the Audigy 4 is pretty ancient. Consider updating to an X-Fi, which work fine as long as you have the latest drivers.

I tried the first three. It's all fine from that end, and still no surround sound.

Thought I'd bump this and try again. Does anyone else have surround sound?

I've heard that the game has problems with S/PDIF output; you might want to try analogue output if you can.
I suppose you might also want to send an e-mail to EA's support team if you haven't already, but don't expect much from them.

Yeah I'd noticed that.
How do I change the output?

hey DS i have an ANCIENT audigy 2 platinum and i have found it can be tricky to auto-update.
i have to usually manually update the drivers/software via the list where you pic your op. system etc...
anyways, some issues i have had in the past include EAX not working and other odd stuff with audigy.
first of all, make sure you use this page to select your hardware/software to get the most recent update if your creative auto-updater wont work-
http://support.creat...e=Sound Blaster
also, for EAX i have to use Alchemy- http://www.creative....laster/alchemy/
and just click the 4th tab to the right "alchemy for x-fi and audigy", this should be used in addition to any usual driver/software updates through creative.
once installed u may need to run the alchemy program from your creative folder and there it will show games on the left that are EAX/ surround capable, and u just click on them to enable them and they will be moved to the right denoting that they should be working now. i had to do that for a few games, not many, but stuff like titan quest and a few other i cant think of right now...
i have vista, i dont know what your running but sounds like an audigy/vista issue, i have had many. but im only running 4.1 audio. otherwise after doing everything i have done things are working great for me. hopefully this helps you too. feel free to PM me with any other questions.
good luck!!!

Thanks for the driver update link. I've installed the latest one. When I tried to search before it kept giving me a driver that would only work for Vista.
So, I'm using Windows XP. From the way Alchemy is described it seems like it's something that's only valid for Vista. Is this true, or not?

Okay, it still cuts out to the two front speakers when the main menu loads, but this time I decided to start a game and once that got started I got sound from all the speakers. So I guess it's fixed. Thanks etherhonky.

very cool, no problem DS moker...
also check how windows interacts with your audio, i cant remember right now if its in the game, or a creative UI but theres a place that you can check a box that says something like "sync with windows default" etc, something rather, and if you have any problems again just sync it if it already isnt, and if it is, uncheck the box or vice versa. (if its checked, uncheck it. if its unchecked check it)
cheers.
