I'm going to go all out here and say NWN1 was the worst Bioware game ever (single-player wise, MP was kick ass). But ME2 is a bad Bioware game even though its still really quite good. Not disappointed by it at all and had a great time playing it.

I am very disappointed with this Mass Effect 2.
It's just a gear of war with dialogue, the RPG part is a joke and there is no scenario so far.
I think the sonic game for DS was more a RPG that this game is.
Leveling is  a joke, it's mass effect but weaker in every part, because the focus was to create a Gear of war clone.
I have to assume that I will not anymore buy blindly a Bioware game, that make me sad.

Ok, cool - you are entitled to your opinion, absolutely. Sorry you didnt like it. May I take this to mean that you will leave this boards and leave the rest of us in peace?

I don't agree with your opinion, but if you are right, that's great news for Bioware.
I don't know any other devoloper whose worst game got better reviews than Mass Effect 2.
Bioware must be even more awesome than I thought. :P

I think it's the best game ever... Bioware or otherwise. Opinions are like ****s, I guess.

Not sure how its like Gears of War, it uses the same unreal game engine & features cover to hide behind, after that I don't see any things in common in ME2, GOW has a little backstory and some ok cutscenese but nothing close to the scale of even 1/10 of ME2 and GOW is purely FPS in third person clothing.

Well, I do not know if it is the worst ever, but, to me, it is a huge step back in respect of its predecessor.

The first impression on the 360 was terrible:

-)No ANTI ALIASING (in 2010! and it was present in ME1)

-)A Different Grain Filter

-)Ridicoulous size of the texts

-)No motion blur (was there in ME1)

-)Some horrible texture (a la Dragon Age)

I do not know, after Dragon Age and this I firmly believe that EA EFFECT has begun!

OP are you honestly trying to say that ME2 is worse than Shattered Steel?

I feel deeply sorry that you are unable to see the greatness that is Mass Effect 2. And the fact that you can even compare Mass effect to Gears Of War makes my head hurt. Sure i agree some hardcore RPG fans may not like the lack of items, armor, and weapons. However the storyline and plot is there. And from an RPG standpoint Mass Effect has one of the greatest stories/characters ive seen in an RPG in a while.

I agree (along with DA:O). Also i noticed that everywhere you go (youtube, ign, eurogamer, metacritic) you read 99% positive user comments, exception made for this forum.
Probably someone is paying trolls to ruin this board... who knows.

Nice. Glad I don't have to see your whining in ME3 then.

About "anti aliasing", it's called anisotropic filter in 2010... i have it at 16x and it goes smoothly.

Bioware should keep making games in a similar fashion to the "worst game ever" then.

Not it isn't. AA and AF are two different things - with the main purpose of the former being to smooth out edge "jaggies", while anisotropic filtering makes textures perpendicular to the view point look sharp at a distance (yes, I'm sure there's a much more technical description of both :)).

The Unreal 3 engine apparently doesn't support anti-aliasing due to some special post-processing filters or something along those lines, although you can presumably do something to force AA on the PC version (I haven't tried, but just forcing it in the graphics driver settings isn't enough though).

To the OP. I see ME2 as ME with the fat removed, sure levelling up weapons skills and charm/intimidate are gone but they have all been integrated more into your paragon/renegade score, plus I find it laughable that someone who has gone through the N7 program doesn't know how to fire a pistol. Removing the 12 stat points and allocating them to 4 ranks makes more sense (which funnily requires 10 points to do). As for the combat, i'm currently playing through on veteran as my first playthrough and the combat is brutal, you get caught in the open and you are toast. I recently played ME through on Insanity and failed to find it a challenge, I say the shooter mechanics are a very welcome improvement and GoW was a very competent TPS. As for the story, added on top of the ME's plot, I'm finding ME2's plot very intriguing and the level or reward for continuing on from ME is unparralleled. To sum up, I wouldn't say your argument is baseless, I would just say its misguided.

Actually it's closer to EA's new title, Army of Two, 40th day. Moral Ramifications, Limited weapon choice, Linear story and sexual innuendo.

Yes they slap each others ass.

I personnaly don't find the story that great, I find it far weaker than the story of ME1.

I can't spoil so I'm kind of limited here, but until now all the mission I've made are exactly the same, go find blahblah, fight, use paragon dialogue he is happy.
Talk to the guy, do his personnal quest, he is happy and loyal....

On the contrary,I prefer the story in this one.

The first Mass effect was yet again the typical rpg storyline blueprint:

random mission/task which trigger the epic quest to save the world.During this journey, you meet people who end up being allies(and most of them have reasons to help you as they are after Saren or affected to your unit).

In Mass effect 2,you need to recruit the best of the best to defeat the bad guys. Most of the character you recruit have no reason whatsoever to care or join you,so you should do their loyalty quest to establish some kind of connection and make sure they perform at their best. It's the disjointed save the world plot, but nobody said that this was a bad thing.

The standard save the world blueprint should not be applied to every rpg ever made, far from it.

The game has been dumbed down quite a little to appease the shooter crowd. Pity, but it's not like the trend didn't already exist in Mass Effect 1.

While Mass Effect 1 was a shooter with some RPG elements that mostly seemed quite out of place, Mass effect 2 is a shooter period.

Personally, the RPG elements that seemed out of place were better, since at least they gave a lil of depth to the game.

It's a pity, and hopefully Bioware learned from the sizeable number of complaints, that their crowd isn't a shooter crowd, but at least the game retains a pretty good story.
