I like all the changes in mass effect 2. They made it have an intense story line, and made it tougher. A lot more tactical, you gotta think when you play.

I don't see why people don't like that this is gone... it drove me nuts. Good job Bioware on ME2.

Don't worry ME3 main features will be:
a) A big massive inventory with tons of options. And inventory based minigames (like find the barcode, move a box from y to x in 10 seconds and such)..A unique chance to have sex with any living being, including trees.
c) 200 different kinds of shotguns, in pretty colors.
d) A click-to-kill combat system. You just have to click an enemy and he dies.
e) A Doom + Starcraft + Gears of War + Hellokitty Online + Dialogue structure
^ ha! THIS. you should post this exact reply on every "i'm disappointed, call a whhaaambulence" thread. personally, while i don't agree with every change they've made (helmets on armor, too short? etc.), i think this is a great game.

Another thing about Gears is that it's a shallow playing experience and lacked any substance. If you like idiotic dialogue and playing as the ultimate damp dream of most teenage boys, go for it. Mass Effect 2 is not this in anyway. So quit making the ridiculous comparisons.
I am alittle disappointed with some things. The love interests seem a bit under developed, but was still entertaining. A couple more weapon choices would have been nice, but either way, i'm in love with the Vindicator assault rifle.
However, the character development was brillant. Some say they gave away secrets too quickly and easily? You're on a suicide mission and need/want to trust of the people you're working with. Psychological reasoning.
I think this is a great game and does some things better than ME 1 but also does some things worse. Great, regardless. The fact that Bioware took the time to listen to US, should make you people happy, alone. Hell, there isn't pleasing everyone, but they sure tried. Kudos to these awesome people who tried.
Just enjoy the damn game, cause they did a great job. And they did it for YOU!

I still play tabletop RPGs; they have their place and are fun. But even when I play them they're not exactly about loot and level grinding.
In short, this is an action RPG. A damn good one.

I would like to know where Twitchmonkey has found more content in ME2 than in ME1 ??
For me the main problems are:
- too much linearity in the main story and in the field missions,
- some drawbacks in the game interface (missing shortcuts, radar map now useless, ...).
Though I fear I will disagree, or at least these will not really matter to me, I also would be very interested in knowing what some people consider as clear improvements,

The game has been dumbed down quite a little to appease the shooter crowd. Pity, but it's not like the trend didn't already exist in Mass Effect 1.
While Mass Effect 1 was a shooter with some RPG elements that mostly seemed quite out of place, Mass effect 2 is a shooter period.
Personally, the RPG elements that seemed out of place were better, since at least they gave a lil of depth to the game.
It's a pity, and hopefully Bioware learned from the sizeable number of complaints, that their crowd isn't a shooter crowd, but at least the game retains a pretty good story.
I agree, but they didn't learn, and they wont, because they will sell a ton of games.
While I have been enjoying the story pretty much, it is most deff, a shooter centric game. Though I feel more and more that to say anything negative on these boards is tantamount to ciber suicide. So I just read the mean, nasty comments spewing forth from the new fan base and shake my head. No room for intelligent debate here anymore.

Hi, My name is Mass Effect 2 fanboy #134572 and I am just dropping by to say that I can't and won't accept that other people have opinions that differ from mine. I won't entertain the idea that there may well be an equal number of people in this World who think that Mass Effect 2 isn't a good game. I won't give any credit to the notion that Mass Effect 2 may well be the worst RPG Bioware have ever made. And I certainly won't accept that there are more elements than a multiple choice story to any good RPG.
That is all.
Nice.

So, what did Bioware do? Listen to the fans, or ignore them? You can obviously tell what they did, for better or for worse.
And, heck, do you know what I think will happen for "Mass Effect 3"? Whoa...they might just listen to the fans again! Lesson to be learned: Be careful what you wish for - or whine about - or the changes might actually come.

Yes, Tirigon, very nice. Meh, "worst Bioware game ever"? Nah. Certainly the most divisive, though. We've got a more mainstream audience that loves it (no offense to hardcore RPG fans, it's just that ME2 is more appealing to mainstream gamers), "RPG fans" who hate it (any game with no stats can't be and RPG, obviously), and a whole load of people who think it's way better than ME1 in some aspects, and worse in others.
Personally, I love the combat, story and characters, and don't like resources, the lack of an inventory and the mission design. Thermal clips are all good with me too; call me a shooter n00b, but it makes fights pacier (or it does for me, at least). For the inventory, I'd personally be really shocked if Bioware didn't find some form of middle ground for ME3, considering the number of people proposing it. ME1's was a bit clunky, ME2's was nonexistant.
My 2 cents on the inventory and resource managing: To get rid of mounds of waste items without converting to *shudder* omni-gel, it makes sense to me that useless items should break down into something useful. In ME1, there weren't many useful things to create. In ME2, the upgrade system relies on resources. People don't seem to like planet scanning, and need more ways to obtain said resources. Anybody seeing a connection here? Instead of trashing 19 useless pistols found on a mission, why not use them to upgrade the one decent pistol you found on it? Like, pistols and SMGs could convert to Iridium, shotguns and snipers to Platinum, amps and tools to Element Zero, and Assault Rifles to Palladium. Armour could break down differently dependng on its stats. So if a piece of armour has high biotic protection, you might get more element zero out if it.
The inventory could have an optional grid view, and stackable items. Trash items could still take up inventory space, but they'd be grouped so you can sell them all off in one go.
Sadly, mission design is prettymuch "come, do a 2-minute side-quest, shoot something, recruit squad member, leave". It's the only really big flaw in the game for me, particularly with the side-quests. The loyalty missions are truly great, but having a side-quest in a city that takes more than five minutes would be pretty cool too. Maybe some missions that could rely on a lot of dialogue, and multiple outcomes? Intelligence rather than firepower or a simple charm/intimidate win/win option? Maybe even situations where Charm/Intimidate screws a situation up further?
Just my thoughts. I'm not going to flame the OP. It's a very divisive game, and it's hard not to play without loving or hating it. We've all got our own opinions, and respecting each others' matters most in a situation like this.
