I've never played Gears of War, but I'm hearing this comparison a lot with ME2.
I do coincide with you that Mass Effect 2 is a major let down. If Gears plays like this game, I'll just stick to Halo.

The only redeeming thing I found so far playing this game is that I was able to port my custom ME1 character.

its cause GoW has cover system too. therefor ME2 is exactly like it....

Funny how people think GoW was the first game to use an intricate cover system...then again, these are probably little kids where GoW was the first game they were allowed to play that had a cover system.

To be fair, Gears of War was an extremely good game.  If you are into shooters.  The Gears series does cover-based combat better than nearly any other game on the market.

I agree with you.  The game was great, so was the multiplayer....but I was stating that people classify GoW based on its cover system, and any other game that uses cover is GoW-like, when GoW wasnt even the first game to use a cover system.

ME2: 7

DA: 7.5

NWN1: 6.5

BG1: 7

BG2: 7.5

There is no such thing as a perfect game therefore I never give out 10s.

saying this is a gears of war clone means you simply dont know how to appreciate a game like ME2.

thats fair enough, but dont come on the forums and try to seem like you know what your talking about.

Mass Effect 2 is not about building a char gear or stat wise. (you have classic RPG's for that. or a random mmo)

If you cant understand that, you should not criticize how good ME2 is or not.

It might be the worst Bioware game ever... with its attempt to go mainstream... however it still better than Gears of War or Halo or any of that other shooter stuff IMO. (Not a big shooter fan)... I think the best shooter ever (IMO) might have been Rainbow Six: Raven Shield... great tactical shooter... (And no I don't consider ME1 a shooter).

Smart guy right here.
I'd give KOTOR2 a solid 9 btw.

A little off topic but KotOR 2 was developed by Obsidian. Hopefully EA will purchase that company as well and BioWare can start collaborating with them again. While the story in KotOR 2 wasn't completely finished and flushed out they did a nice job creating some interesting environments and characters.

Yeah I know but it's still a KOTOR. I enjoyed that game a lot more than the first one honestly.

nooooooooo nooooooo KOTOR 1 is the best!!! what a punch at the end!!! Who would have thought we were the main bad guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!! the second was good, but not enough!!!!

That was a good ending. But I liked the good and evil choices and the lightsaber customization more in KOTOR 2.

I am very disappointed with this Mass Effect 2.
It's just a gear of war with dialogue, the RPG part is a joke and there is no scenario so far.
I think the sonic game for DS was more a RPG that this game is.
Leveling is  a joke, it's mass effect but weaker in every part, because the focus was to create a Gear of war clone.
I have to assume that I will not anymore buy blindly a Bioware game, that make me sad.

First off its always good not to assume anything as you tend to look like an ass after words.
Secondly, While I agree about it playing more like gears of effect 2 then mass effect 2, I can hard agree with you when you call it the worst BW game ever.
I do believe its a great game, but I am very disappointed with some of the design decesions that were made. Like adding ammo, or the planet scanning game. remove one boring minigame for another.

Had they Improved what ME 1 had as well as adding the combat without the lame reload mechanic the game would be that much better, but the story, the graphics and most of the combat is alot better then ME 1 was.
So no, I can not agree with you about it being the worst BW game ever.

ME1 had guns and you shot stuff.

Must be a halo clone.

I can mostly agree with this.
I’ve only played ME, ME2, and DA:O

Considering that a 7 is a C, that is exactly what I would give ME2, a C

I’d probably give ME an 8.8, because they story was excellent and the ambiance was good - the music matched the art.

ME2 isn’t bad, it is just bad compared to ME.

I'm not going to get involved mush here.  But, that said it dose seem as if alot of the leveling up elements and a few other minor things where really dulled down or removed completely.

For example I miss the crouching, the gernades, the open mako exploration and most of all the elevators.
Though I am sure Bioware removed some things for good reason, so we should'nt complain much.

So in retrospect, aside from the things metioned above the only problems I have is the small text; lack of intergalatic politics; finding the game on the short side; and I just did'nt find it as EPIC as the first.  EPIC as in stop evil and unite the gallaxy and save all life from Sovereign and the Reapers epic.
But at the end of the day though Mass Effect is a extreamly fun and deeply entertaining game.

I agree with this statement.

Just Gears of War 2 with dialouge? Are you dense?

How many times in GOW2 could you upgrade your charcater powers? How many times in GOW2 did you take your ship to a remote planet to help someone in need?

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

I figured it out.

Gears of War
-cover system
-guns
-third person perspective
-get to change how the story unfolds (e.g. go left or right [both choices have same outcome])

Mass Effect 2
-cover system
-guns
-third person perspective
-get to change how the story unfolds(e.g. idk too many choices to list... O.o)
-awesome story
-tactical
-customize gear
-good romance plot
-research upgrades
-biotics/tech/combat abilities
-talent tree
-epic
-other stuff i didn't mention

So therefor Mass Effect 2 is the same game as Gears of War! ....wait what?

OK this is annoying. Kiddies fresh out of their JRPGs going on about how absolutely horrible Mass Effect 2 is, blah, blah. Though I may not be happy with all the changes made from ME1 to ME2 both games in my opinion are far superior than 80% of the knuckle draggin dreck many game developers/publishers put out these days. If you have an issue then try and be constructive in your criticism or sell your copy of ME2 and preorder FFXIII.

I guess people forgot that ME1 was also a shooter, and there was a cover system. The only differences with ME2 is that to go into cover you press a button instead of walking up to a wall and sticking to it, there's more weapons to choose from, and that sloppy inventory/leveling up system is gone.

Inventory was a chore to do and leveling really didn't do anything overall combat-wise.

People are acting like ME1 wasn't a shooter and that ME2 introduced an entirely new combat system.

I wonder why Mass Effect 2 is more shooter than RPG? *cough*EA*cough* If EA would have left Bioware alone, then no one would be complaining about the changes in this game. Because there prolly wouldn't have been many.

How bout this...
If your soooo sick of these type of topics then take your ass back out of it without crying about it.
MANY people are disappointed with how alot of the rpg aspects in ME 2 were dumbed way down or just removed.
WE paid money for the product and like it or not, we have the right to come here and post our like or our dislike.

Some people are better at it then others and some just need to vent at the disappointment of a could be great game.
People like you only troll topics to start something.

So heres a simple rule.... If you dont like the topic then DONT POST IN IT ABOUT NOT LIKING THE TOPIC.

The first ME sucked compared to ME2

The shooting aspect of it was horrible.
