I think the game is a lot better than ME 1 in combat and general gameplay has a good story though mass effects was better mainly due to the linear style in the second (IMO). Overall I think ME2 is much better . The main things i dont like are.
1. Planet scanning
2. Some Characters feel underveloped Jacob, Grunt
3. Not that many side quests

Minor stuff
4. Armour (Just gets a bit boring in N7 or 2 choices for team but its a minor thing)
5. Why does Zaeed not have dialougue Shale did.
6. I knew to much of the plot b4 the game came out but thats biowares fault.
7. ppl saying its rubbish or not a RPG, GOW clone (my PS3 and PC owning brothers respectivley :/)
8. Miss the old debriefing's the mission ending screen feels out of place.
9. Quite Linear and repetitive mission and story wisedont think it has the same 'charm' that made ppl keep replaying mass effect

None of them apart from the characters and planet scanning bother me to much though just think the squad which is one of the games main vocal points should of being written and developed  better instead of one loyalty mission 15 mins dialouge BANG loyalty!!! secured also wished that their was more than one quest for the squads loyalty. We could of gained loyalty and background info, relationship over a period of the games time since there are less side missions i think this would of worked on the other hand that could become annoying due to lack of variety if not done right or for shooter orientated fans. Also Dragon age's squad interactions are realy good this feels a lot more limited in comparison.

As for the removal of RPG elements its more of a shooter definitley but the RPG elements are their the upgrade system I prefer its a more realistic way of getting stat boosts i never thought id say it but i miss the mako but maybe the hammerhead will let me explore a bit more. The lack of armour and weapons i think is good the only game i ever liked with loads of weapons was the fallouts most of the time in RPGs i look for more powerful weapons and armour so i dont get creamed much prefer the new system though more visually distinct armour variety would be nice also ME's weapon bar spectre and pulse weapons were generic and boring though a loot system like fallout would be nice. The leveling is far to limited i think the old ME was better here conversly the classes are more distinct now and useful (IMO) though they should have more talents and a longer amount of points needed to max them but not as much as ME that simply took to long for hardly any gain for example having around 7 skils/powers with around 5-7 improvements .

However keep oncomplaining  because they listened to most of the critisms leveled at it last time so ME3 may just be have the perfect RPG shooter blend that everyone will love. By the way i always felt GOW semi ripped of GRAW and Rainbow Six which done the same thing but were more tactically orientated i think the ME's destroy GOW,COD,Halo in their content if these games didnt have multiplayer they would of died out ME 1 made me go through over 12 times  the others i finished completly in a week. Also i think GOW a dedicated shooter isnt as tactical or fun as mass effect 2 (IMO). That was longer than i had planned.Image IPBsorry for spelling errors im tired and to lazy to go other it.

I guess people forgot that ME1 was also a shooter, and there was a cover system. The only differences with ME2 is that to go into cover you press a button instead of walking up to a wall and sticking to it, there's more weapons to choose from, and that sloppy inventory/leveling up system is gone.

Inventory was a chore to do and leveling really didn't do anything overall combat-wise.

People are acting like ME1 wasn't a shooter and that ME2 introduced an entirely new combat system.

Um... ME 2 has seemingly less weapons then ME 1.
I am sorry but having only 1-3 versions of the 4 main classes and only 5 heavy weapons.....
What happened to having 19 types of weapons??
I thinks its more like only having 19 weapons total in the entire game to use.. (not counting the Bouns items)
What happened to the looting? I mean why the **** if your scrounging for ammo would you not loot them and sell the stuff you dont need for money to help fund your mission or help fund your upgrades???

The game while advancing in graphics and some combat aspects, the over all feel of the ME 2 rpg seems to have actually taken a few steps backwards!

OK this is annoying. Kiddies fresh out of their JRPGs going on about how absolutely horrible Mass Effect 2 is, blah, blah. Though I may not be happy with all the changes made from ME1 to ME2 both games in my opinion are far superior than 80% of the knuckle draggin dreck many game developers/publishers put out these days. If you have an issue then try and be constructive in your criticism or sell your copy of ME2 and preorder FFXIII.

How bout this...
If your soooo sick of these type of topics then take your ass back out of it without crying about it.
MANY people are disappointed with how alot of the rpg aspects in ME 2 were dumbed way down or just removed.
WE paid money for the product and like it or not, we have the right to come here and post our like or our dislike.

Some people are better at it then others and some just need to vent at the disappointment of a could be great game.
People like you only troll topics to start something.

So heres a simple rule.... If you dont like the topic then DONT POST IN IT ABOUT NOT LIKING THE TOPIC.

How about this..

like someone said if you don´t like mass effect 2 go and sell it and buy your crap jrpgs, I hope bioware do something about these trolls and whinners.

In my opinion ME2 is a huge improvement, they got rid of all the reskined weapons that only do 0.5 cool down better than your current one, speaking as a soldier class all the weapons are useful now instead of AR or the sniper if they are out of sight.

They got rid of the useless talents, and as for the ammo thing what's the big deal? guns needing ammo is canon, one of Wrexs story's has him saying that he ran out of ammo, team skills are now useful, your team mates have WAY better character development and the game feels more cinematic

But Haters Gonna Hate.

Lol, how does it affect you if people, many people at that, come to the board because they are disappointed in ME2 and want to share that with other people who are disappointed?

Are you so attached to the game that you cannot stand the thought that we maybe didn’t like it?

You do actually have to force yourself to come into a negative post.
So, are you a masochist, or just dumb?

Or, maybe you work for EA?

The only comparison to Gears of War is the cover system. The combat is just a small part of the overall experience of ME2, though. Gears of War, however, completely relies on it for appeal. Mass Effect 2 is original and visionary.

I am very disappointed with this Mass Effect 2.
It's just a gear of war with dialogue, the RPG part is a joke and there is no scenario so far.
I think the sonic game for DS was more a RPG that this game is.
Leveling is  a joke, it's mass effect but weaker in every part, because the focus was to create a Gear of war clone.
I have to assume that I will not anymore buy blindly a Bioware game, that make me sad.

I agree.
I have not played this game yet though.
This is my expectations so far.

Wow. Don't judge a game until you play it. You just look like a fool when you judge blindly.

Yeah I work for EA LOL, all the complains about the mass effect 2 are silly, when is obvious that mass effect 2 is a better game than mass effect 1 so if you dont like it its your problem, like I said go sell it and play dragon age or ypur crap jrpgs but dont   make silly complains like worst bioware game because many people agree that it´s the finest.

This game isn't an RPG or a Shooter, it's a game that attempts to meld several different genres together and refine the storytelling to the extreme. This game isn't for RPG fanatics, but if you say this game isn't phenomenal, then I personally question your taste in video games.

I think it was rather interesting of them to break from the traditional Bioware RPG (mostly KOTOR style) and be daring enough to try something different. And really in the end I'm sure the vast majority of us buy Bioware games for story. They've got by far the best writers in the video game industry, if you view the action elements as a method to continue the narrative it works quite well.

also, Cmdr Shepard is trained as a badass Marine....which is exactly what the combat makes him/her seem like...I feel its a great improvement over their other systems where its stand there and just wait for abilities to come off cooldown.

I've played Bioware since the early PC and I am happy the games have grown with me. This is the next evolution of what RPGs should be. A mix of fun with enough stats to keep you engaged. Some people cannot deal well with changes, well you have an entire era of games that used to be nothing more than RNGing stat sheets to go back and play to keep you happy.

While the level design, story, character development and spectrum of decision making and it's effect on the game world all far exceed that of Mass Effect 1, there were actually a number of small flaws with the title, and things that were left out that should/could have been easily implemented that would have made it an even stronger showing. This has been the story from Bioware recently, and the case was the same for Dragon Age origins. What's lacking in these games is almost totally drowned out by Bioware's ability to make a vastly superior story experience, and truly engage the player, thus yielding review marks that are a tad bloated. That's not to say I'm not throughly enjoying ME2, or that I didn't enjoy DA:O or ME1, but I just feel that unless Bioware becomes independant of EA, this is what we will continue to see. EA is notorious for watering down content in order to make money with expansions by offering later that which should have been in the original realease.

Just as an example, ME1 was on the right track in regards to planet exploration, and allowing  side quests or special items or locations to be discovered by the player  by landing on and exploring unidentified planets in different systems would have been the next logical step. However, ME2 took a step backwards and cut this out pretty much completely, and only the long range scanner and element probes, which don't make a lot of sense, are what remain. Progression through the game still feels very linear due in large part to this. It's still one of the better RPG releases in recent years, but with such a depleted gaming industry offering titles that are more and more dumbed down and geared towards a casual experience, this isn't the feat it used to be, and I fully expect most reviews for ME2 to follow the trend of those for DA:O, and be scaled upwards because of it.

Could of being worst the FIFA games often remain nearly the same year after f**ing year at least Bioware attempted to change and address critisms by fans many EA published titles are almost identical copy and pastes FIFA and Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve are EA partners) for example being realeased soon after their prequels. While completly messed Ultima up. Though more recently i suppose games like Left 4 Dead and Dead space were good so maybe there improving

I always enjoy these threads, because it seems that EVERY BioWare game is the Worst BioWare Game Ever to judge by the multitudes of threads decrying them... At least, until the next one comes out.

I like to read threads like this because back in 2007 and then buckets more when the game was ported to PC these exact same complaints were being made about ME1 -- except that it was a "Halo" clone for the mouthbreathers back then not the "Gears of War" clone for the unsophicated being thrown about today but the RPG "elite". It is funny how now ME1 has been elevated since that time by this group. There is a lesson somewhere in all this about a simultaneous release of a PC port of a console game.

It is unfortunate that some are finding this game unenjoyable but that is the way things go. If one is looking for a "pure" rpg experience then the Mass Effect triology was never the place to look for it. BioWare was very, very upfront about what kind of games the trilogy are and hid nothing about the direction that this game was going. They continually spelt it out in every interview and article that was published. They are still making games that are more traditional rpgs (Dragon Age) but that doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't experiment with other genres or piecing those genres together. BioWare is under no obligation to anyone to make a certain type of game.

I haven't play GOW, but i like this game a lot, it's some of the most fun

i've ever had in front of my 'puter. ME2 has practically cured my porn addiction.

I'd consider doing a commercial spot reflecting this, but i would ask that my voice

be altered and face blurred to protect my children.

seriously tho, as an old gamer, (i'm 42 next month)

this game lived up to my expectations.

it's just a joy to play, to BE THERE. In this world that someone

created for me to explore however i want to.

I'm having fun;

My kids are dirty and hungry with rotten teeth,

the fridge is full of rotten food that i just didn't have time to cook,

and my two cats are covered in **** and blood (don't know what

happened, i was scanning for resources)

and i'm ok with all of that, because i'm OUT THERE,

doing the thing and being myself.

It's the definition of joy.

Thank You, to everyone who worked on this game

and who are working on the next installment,

i'll be right here with my debit card,

just waiting to play the next one...

Here is something for the guys who say Mass Effect is better and Mass Effect 2 sucks because it isn't like Mass Effect.

Get your copy of Mass Effect 2 and look at the cover.
Now, tell me what the name of the game you are holding is called.

Does it say Mass Effect 1?

If not, then stop your whining.

Bioware didn't make it worse, EA did.

lol, I wouldn't go that far at all. It isn't the worst Bioware game ever, and isn't the worst game ever either. It is just a game that was rushed, and did not live up to the potential. We could have had great gameplay with great RPG elements, but that would be too much for idiotic Halo players.

Bioware can easily redeem themselves in ME3 by at least giving us more weapons and armors. Also, I want to visit Citadel space and the Terminus systems.

Do I love the game? Yes.

Does it feel like Gears of War / <insert random 3rd person shooter> with dialogue? Yes.

Too much feedback from shooter fans has been taken into consideration for ME2. Can we get some RPG-flavour back into ME3, please?

For those of you interested in keeping in line with reality: the combat in ME2 is nothing like Gears of War. The rest of the game is even farther from comparison with Gears of War. This game could just as easily be compared with Dead Space or Hitman or BioShock or _____ because those would all be likewise inane and stupid comparisons.

Thank you, and I do hope we all haven't been made dumber by this thread.
