please keep posting new topics about not being able to import your ME1 character into ME2
Bioware and EA may be willing to ignore this issue but WE cannot. WE need to demand answers from them (even if they seem content to ignore us) There are serious problems that need fixed and answers given as to how and why such a massive oversight for a foundation feature of game.
1. Why does it appear that only one saved file at one particular point in the game is required for this feature to work?
Why was this not explained, I'm having to play through the entire first game again to get this magical save.
2. Is this save feature linked to a cache file? Why was it not addressed that some of Xbox's own fixes for problems are to clear the system cache files!
3. WTF?

While I was lucky enough to have a working save on my old Xbox which I played ME1 on (actually the HD from an old Xbox - that RRoD magnet, three times, is gone), it required one lost evening of trying to figure out WTF it wasn't working and then another night driving over to my girlfriend's place in the hope that I'd be able to salvage a save. I was, but the whole experience really put a bitter taste in my mouth before I even fired up the game to experience what Bioware clearly labored mightily to create only to allow corporate incompetence and duplicity to ruin it.
What's been most appalling about this pooch screw is how after five days Bioware refuses to even acknowledge that people are having problems. Official representatives are posting in the Cerberus Network and DLC problem threads, but the substantial numbers of people reporting problems and trying to troubleshoot solutions are being treated like crazy folks barking about aliens and the water supply. Why can't someone from Bioware at least acknowledge that there's a problem? A simple, "We're looking into it," would sure be nice of them.
I suspect they're going to hide their clear deceit (in posting on the retail site that all you need are your old saves w/o qualification) behind some bamboozle talk about how the forum had a post explaining it had to be on a hard drive and not a MU*, but that doesn't change the fact that we were promised - even before ME1 came out - that we could carry our characters over and we're finding now that it's not that simple.
Have they become so poisoned by their association with EA that they don't see a rerun of the Spore DRM fiasco as a bad thing? Don't they realize that when you smack their paying customers in the face literally at the first moment they try to play the game that word's going to get around? This isn't like finding out that the end of KOTOR2 was whacked to meet the ship date. This is, "Press Start. Ha-Ha!!! You're screwed! Suckers! Go rebuy ME1 or suck it, chumps! Got paid, yo!!!" That Bioware continues to ignore us only exacerbates the damage to their reputation.
* You can't copy ME2 saves, only move them from HD to MU and back. Whether or not finishing the game on the MU will screw you for ME3 - as if those burned will buy it - is unknown. It's not as if Bioware is telling us anything.

I was bitten by the "Copied my save files from an old Xbox, didn't have the hidden game-complete file" problem, so I went back into ME1 and finished the game again. That solved that problem.
Now I'm being bitten by the "Used that profile for a New Game+, profile is orange and can't be selected" problem. So far as I've read in the forums, there doesn't seem to be any workaround for that... other than "finish the game again." And I have to tell you, since I left that second playthrough halfway into Eden Prime, I'm not eager to play through the *entire game* again. Is there really no other solution?
Unfortunately, whenever I play I play full-on Paragon... and I cannot accept the "default" choices the game assumes you made if you just start a new game without importing an ME1 save. This means my choices are pretty much (1) suck it up and play ME1 from beginning to end again, or (2) return the game, swear off the franchise, and rant bitterly about it to all my friends.
