**** man, why did they make that so easy to miss?  I stopped before I watched it all, so that I could reload and go check it out.

When I investigated I picked the top question with the intent of picking the bottom one later and the option never arose. I like Liara and when I talked to her I felt like she didn't even give a **** about me and that felt like a punch to the gut.

It really feels like Bioware kind of rigged things so that you won't stay loyal to your love interest from ME1.   Ashley is dead to me after the lack of trust and respect she showed on Horizon; but I didn't really care because she could never hold a candle to Liara anyway.  But then the first thing I did after Horizon was go talk to Liara and it seemed like she hardly even cared that I was alive; much less that she still loved me.  That one stung.

I don't like the direction Bioware seems to be taking Liara.  In a galaxy full of bull**** and ugliness, she was still virtuous.

ME2 just keeps hammering the "dark and gritty" theme so much that its starting to feel stale.  I mean everywhere I go and everything I do, things are f*cked up and aside from some random ecounters with people from ME1, I never get to have any joy from really helping someone.

Frankly, its depressing and  I don't need that ****.

 Oh.... sorry, I got a little carried away... :D

Dinner sounds good, but if we are gonna show her the fish tank, that is way too close to the bed without haphazardly falling on it and then just stumbling upon hot sizzling reunionized, 2-year drought, return from the dead love making ... :P

I luckily had an old save just before having that conversation with her.  So I went back to that save after having played 15 hours past that point.

Of course, the sex come after dinner and some catching up.   Liara can see Shepard's empty fish tank and pet the space hamster first.

I just hope Kelly isn't in the room at the time :?

I'm still standing by my convictions that NOTHING HAPPENED with Kelly.  We're just friends.

Dinner first, then gazing at the (hopefully not dead) fish, then...... well, you know.

If we don't get some kind of DLC, it'll be a 4-year drought for Shepard.... not 2.

Poor Shep...... the price of love is steep.

Only 3 and a half for me; but I did the same.  Liara may be out of the cards in this game; but I'll be damned if I'll lose her in ME3 because I didn't ask the right question.

PS:  Isn't investigate supposed to investigate, not move the dialogue ahead?  In less the person I'm talking to gets shot while I'm talking to them why is the game keeping me from asking as many questions as I want?

Could be a bug or intentional. Most of us think it was intentional just so Bioware would see how many people would abandon and cheat on Liara without knowing the whole story.

I don't think you'll lose her in ME3 b/c you didn't ask the question.   I don't think the question is tied to a 'romance variable', but is just there for the character's own benefit.  I think the only way to possibly kill the Liara romance is to romance another in ME2.

Technically, the Shep I just finished the game with didn't ask her the question.  I just went back a save to see the dialog but didn't continue on with that save (I didn't want to lose 15 hrs of gameplay).  My Shepard still stared longingly at Liara's picture before embarking on the suicide mission, so it seems that the romance is still on for ME3.

I believe you are correct.  My first run-through in ME2 was with a sentinel I created last weekend, and I did not do a LI on that character in ME1, because I wanted to romance Tali this time.  And I still got that dialogue from Liara.

Well I read it before, but damn, that was easy to miss. Two times I haven't noticed the investigate option. This isn't like me, I run through every possible dialogue option in the game. Damn.

I figured that was the case.  Still..... the scene definitely carries more weight if you romanced her.  If you didn't romance her in the first game, it's pretty much just an explanation of why she's been acting so strange.  But if she was you love interest......  the "I couldn't let you go" line just rips your heart out.

Now I'm gonna have to replay without "boinking" anyone, since Liara was my LI in the first on my primary playthrough.

Just to see if something happens in ME3.

Just played back through it and I agree that dialogue choice is essential. It explains why she's been so cold, it lets you know that she still cares about you, and as silly as it may sound it made me feel better. When I turned off the game last night I was in a foul mood because of how impersonal my encounter with Liara had been; but now I feel better because in that dialogue you get to see that the Liara you knew in ME1 is still alive (even if she is kind of pissed off).

The first time I played through without that dialogue it felt like you had already lost her.

She really is, and that is why it hurts so bad. I really need that romance DLC or just bring on ME3 already!!! :P

I wish I'd seen that the first time around. I, like many people on the boards, will usually start my "Investigate" sections with the top choice as the game almost always lets you go back into that part of the conversation. This was the first time in the series that choosing one topic to investigate has locked out another. I'm filled with mixed emotions right now because, while I'm happy that Liara hasn't become as heartless as everything initially implied, I'm a bit POed that Bioware made this dialoge choice so easily skippable. It should at least be something you can ask her again later if you missed it.

I'm happy that Liara is obviously so well liked at Bioware; since she is my favorite romantic interest.

They give her practically her own 4 part comic; and she's also the most sympathetic LI from the first game. Provided you catch this easily missed conversation option,

Please Bioware, please, please, PLEASE let Liara be a part of your squad and let the romance continue in Mass Effect 3 with a chance at a happy ending.

I think a lot of people are missing just how bad Liara actually did at copying her mother.

"...I'll flay you alive. Um... with my mind."

She still hasn't got the whole threatening thing down yet. It was almost a Joss Wheadon style threat; slight pause and uneccisery qualifier included.

Anyway.

All in all my main Shepard is going to remain loyal to Liara after discovering all that she's been through and done for him. Sure; she can't join him on the suicide mission. Big deal. I was sort of glad in hindsight. What sort of loving partner would want to drag their lover into that sort of hell with them?

Looking back I'm happy with how they handled Liara. She's grown as a character, and best of all she's alive and still loyal to Shepard no matter what choice you make. Which means she can return as a squad member in EVERYONES game in ME3.

But yeah. Be nice if a patch made it harder to miss that option. Hate to think how many people who really liked Liara will give up on her because "she's changed". She really hasn't; she's just matured a little and is putting on an act. Badly at that. xD

Of course I second this, but I HIGHLY doubt BioWare would leave her out given Casey has already PROMISED that she and the other LIs will have significant roles and story climaxes in ME3.

It's not silly at all.... I felt the same way, as did most of her fans, I would imagine.
