I am using a Logitech wired gamepad. I was able to create a profile using the Logitech profiler software and setting it to persistent mode. I need to make a few subtle changes and do some more testing, but it seems to work great at the moment

Awesome, now if you could just tell me how to do that with my xbox "wireless" gamepad, I'd much appreciate it.

open all INI files (in hex editor only! this is imortant) from ME 2 installation folder and search for JoystickEnable or something like this it would be equal to 0 or False, change it to 1 and true (since its in hex mode u will have remaining letter E after True, replace it with SPACE aka 20 in hex) there are few places in INi and u should repeat that in all places. When u finish dont forget to check that you INI file is still of same size in bytes it was before editiong or game will not start if it will be different.

When u will have this done u would be able to map all buttons from controller right in game, but unfortunatly when u will back to menu, on attempts to save new ini in save folder game will crash, to prevent it u need to do PLACEHOLDER , create 2nd set of Keyboards (so game would save every command slot in ini) and after this just manualy replace all the Keyboard buttons names with regular xbox 360 buttons name that present almost in every Unreal powered games (like XboxTypeS) or with Joy if u have some generic gamepad.

U can use ME 2 inis from Xbox 360 disk as reference for correct mapping.

This native unofficial semi-support is better than any profiler, but only in case if u you could map everything correct in INI.

Aslo i suggest to find Aimassist or Aimhelp values in any and also set them to TRUE (dont forget about filesize and hex editor).

Well i started to this and have some 1st results, but havent had time to discover everything i need and finish it.

Also i dont have 360 version and cant get 360 INIs form ME 2 anywhere (well i dont want to DL 10 gb iso just to get few kbs of INIs for legitimate game i have).

IF anyone have xbox 360 version Please send me all INI files from it! To do this u will need to get tool for xbox 360 image extraction (since DVD for 360 have non usual file system and if u will put it in PC dvd ROM u will able to see only short video which says that this DVD not for PC).

Man, I'm way too ignorant when it comes to computers to try all of that without accidently damaging the whole game in the process. I don't even know what an INI file IS!...

I don't have that, all I have is the wireless Xbox controller for the PC and the installation disk that comes with it.(unless that's what you were talking about..? That has that on it?Image IPB)

Sigh... I'm probably better off just getting third party software..Image IPB  Bioware sucks!

Duuude. Wait, what?
Actually, I got most of it except the HEX part. I haven't been messing with game files enough to safely say that I know where and what it is that I am changing.

However, if you are satisfied with your results, I'd be nice if you could work up a guide. You'd make a lot of people happy. Probably confused, but happy none the less :P

Well, I clicked on the help button in the Logitech profiler and found the tutorial. Followed the instructions and set up a profile, then I launched the game thru Logitech Profiler.

It didn't recognize sh*t...

So much for that, I'll probably get Xpadder for my Xbox controller.

What difference does that make? The profiler had no problem recognizing it and the game doesn't even have controller support anyway.

When I did the Notepad test, it worked just fine.

Hey v00d00m4m, I sent you a PM, but in case you don't get it here's this post...

I appreciate the help you tried to give me with the instructions on INI files. Unfortunately, I'm so bad with computers that I didn't even wanna try something that complicated, lest I damage the game.

I managed to use "Logitech Profiler" to keymap my Logitech "Wingman" Force 3D Joystick for ME 2, it's working fine.

HOWEVER... I can't control the camera. I can move forward/backward/left/right, but I can't look where I'm going or look up/down or to the side of me. I can't turn around either. I can move left/right, but I can't turn around to look in a particular direction. The mouse still controls all that.

I remember when I tried mapping the fire control, profiler wouldn't accept "left mouse button" as the command button. I had to go into the game's configuration mode and give ME2 a secondary button for that so that profiler could then accept the command. Same with "aim".(right mouse button)

I have no idea how to get the twisting axis to map the mouse as a whole. I don't see a key binding for "camera"..

How do I map the mouse controls into the twisting axis? What's the proper commands so I can turn and look where I want?

I already have the other buttons mapped out, except for the throttle and POV, but I don't really need those two. The X and Y axis are already handling forward/back/left and right, I just need to get the twisting axis to handle the camera.

Can you help me?

Sorry I spoke to soon about the joy stick. I have my right stick mapped to the following:
X axis to mouse x axis Y axis to mouse y axis. Camera works good

I must be an idiot. Just checked checked your joystick online. Ive never used that type of stick
before and have no business giving you advice.

Okay, but how does that help me? In order to map commands into my axis, I need to know keyboard strokes, is there another way to do it?

I'm almost done mapping my joystick, all I need are the commands for the twisting axis and I'm set.

If I can't get them, I'll either use that or Xpadder.

Thanks, by the way.

Aww s**t...

Now button 3 doesn't wanna work. I mapped it for "aim/zoom", but it's not responding. The right mouse button still works so it's not the game.

I went back to do the notepad test. The original tutorial test had the trigger mapped to say "Hi". I mapped button 3 to post "L". Now, suddenly the trigger hits ENTER when I press it, but button 3 is working fine?!?!... In the game, the trigger works correctly, but it's button 3 that's messed up.

What the f**k! Maybe HDRoadking01 is right, maybe this joystick is too old. I got it way back when the first Unreal game came out. I'm probably better off with Xpadder or pinnacle on my Xbox controller.

EDIT: I set it to persistent profile and now it's back to having the trigger work properly while button 3 is completely unresponsive. Then I mapped button 4 to type "r" and suddenly button 3, button 4 and the trigger are all working properly again. What's going on here?..

Or you could simply use XPadder.. it works perfectly with the Xbox 360 pad, and you can perfectly map it..

I remember that I've used it with Fable 1 on PC and even the mouse lookaround was profiled correctly, so use that :) it could even have a profile ready for Mass Effect 2!

Xpadder's been working great! A mere 10 bucks, it was worth it, I get unlimited upgrades too.

Good stuff.

why the hell you would you want to play controller on PC? If your going to be playing games ont eh PC with a controller wouldn't it simply be better to invest in a console?

I play with 360 gamepad too with PGP. AllowJoystickEnabled=1 in .ini don't work.

People that says "controller = console" are very limited.

Console is not gamepad. Console is sub720p + 30 fps + noAA + noAniso + long loading times + gamepad only.

PC is 1080p + 60 fps + AAx4 + Anisox16 + 2 seconds loadings + PLAY AS YOU WISH (mouse, gamepad, joystick, wheel, wiimote ...)

unfortunately no no of so-called "mappers" cannot 100% emulate native joystick\\gamepad behaviour in game.

For example all Gamepad powered games uses analogue movemt - if u press left stick no so hard, your charcter will move slow, u can increase preasure on stick and character will start to run.

Due of digital nature of all keyboard buttons, most of pc games was always forced to have extra "run\\walk" toggle or hold buttons since keyboard digital buttons send only discreet signal (its just pressed or not) and game cannot understand how hard it pressed.

Another disadvantage of keyboard movement is 8 way strict dirrections of movents like that
 \\   |   /
--      --
 /   |   \\
with same fixed possible angles of movement (0, 45. 90 135. 180. 225, 270, 315)  when on analogue gamepad axist u can turn and move in any of all availave 360 degrees (like 17  or 82 degrees).

So when u have native gamepad support u have these advantages and dont need to map 2 extra buttons for toggle WALK\\RUN . When u using tools like Pinnacle or Xpadder u loosing 2 buttons and can move only in 8 directions.

Last thing is Aiming itself, i can give you waranty that native gamepad aiming if faster, have better precission and less delay than emulated Axis>>Mouse.

Also one feature that u surrely will not get without native gamepad support- ForceFeedBack (rumble). Well u can emulate it with those tools but it will be bad, Feedback will b triggered everytime u press button, even if u have no guns and just clicking menus.

So in my opinion, all these tools not sollution, just a temporal fix untill someone (developer or consumer) will create native support.

So anyone have 360 version of ME 2 and can send me all INIs from it, so i can continue my Native gamepad support restoration.
