Or you could simply use XPadder.. it works perfectly with the Xbox 360 pad, and you can perfectly map it..
I remember that I've used it with Fable 1 on PC and even the mouse lookaround was profiled correctly, so use that :) it could even have a profile ready for Mass Effect 2!

Is it freeware?

Xpadder 5.3 is freeware, as are the versions below it.  Anything above and it costs money.

biggest issue with game pads FIXED RATE OF TURN your turn rate is locked no matter how fast you move the stick once you hit the stop you cant turn any faster

you also cant pick up and recenter a thumbstick these things make a mouse far better then any game pad for an FPS or 3rd person shooter

if you have look at a keyboard for 5 keys well its a wonder you can even type

you cant aim nearly as well as with a mouse ether again limited movement once it you hit the stop you cant recenter

BIggest thing for me about wanting native controller support though is the analogue movement i find the switch from walking forward to forward/right on aswd quite jarring, ME1 was a lot smootheer the way it transitioned the animation but i guess thats due to bioware quickening the movements up to make it a sharper shooting experience?! who knows!

hello.

v00d00m4n--> I send for you the ini file from version 360.

If you can run the gamepad for ME2, you will do a lot of happy XD.

good luck.

not: sorry for my bad English.

JoyToKey might work and it's free.

JoyToKey has mouse emulation commands which you must use for "turn left/right" because ME2 does not have a keyboard keypress (that works) for turn.

You can manually add key bindings in the coalesced.ini file to make "turnleft" and "turnright" functions available. Once you have two keys bound to the turn functions you can then assign a controller button (or axis) to those keyboard keys.

There is a turnleft/turnright binding but it does not work when bound to a keyboard keypress.

ok, thx to SRIMK i was able to find missing config string, and was even able to see them all bind by default in contols menu, but unfortunately there is a bug which crash game right after im returning from settings menu (this happening before binary config become saved).

I belive it could be ubnormal reaction no name of string that represent gamepad button.

So generaly engine recognise buttons and axes and can use them, but crash happening during attempt to save this configuration.

Im currently trying to find reason of that crash and if this possible, i will try to fix it.

stay tuned guys, i hope i could fix it... but if ill fail, at least we could request Bioware to fix that crash in patch.

zBobG - how about read something from upper part of page ?)

I have read this whole thread. Could you be somewhat more specific?

If you are saying that you don't like "mouse emulation" because it has a fixed speed when translating to movement, I can't do anything about what you don't like.

Also, if you think that the game's built-in xBox commands (if you can even get them to work) will be any better, all I can say is it probably won't be much better at translating to movement than an external gamepad utility.

I have read a few posts in other forums that xPadder works well with ME2, or at least it works well enough to be playable with a gamepad. I don't like that it isn't free though.

It would be quite nice if you could manage to add back native xBox functionality.

why the hell you would you want to play controller on PC? If your going to be playing games ont eh PC with a controller wouldn't it simply be better to invest in a console?

Game Controller  works great with games like Need For Speed. I cannot play Need For Speed with the keyboard.

So if you succeed in getting this to work, does it mean we will be able to play it with the xbox radial pause menu like in the xbox version or will it still have the same PC functionallity?

Xpadder isn't so bad, it's only a mere 10 bucks and you get unlimited upgrades. I finally have mouse control as well as the keymappings and it's been playing great.

im not yet sure about this.

each time after i set gamepad buttons, i can return into main options menu, but right after im trying to return in root menu, game crashing prior it recorded buttons settings into Profile.prf (binary) file

This crash is happening every time at same instruction
00aa242d 8a10            mov     dl,byte ptr [eax]

LTCG_BioGame!GImage::GImage+0x6a0e9d

Spoiler

i think that this happens since Bioware no designed that binary profile save file to store gamepad buttons values, so that why when game trying to save uncomaptible value in profile.prf it chashing. but it could be something other, i dont know what exactly Gimage api call doing in Unreal engine (i mean what for it used) and why this call causing a crash.
The game itself works 100% fine with gamepad and support both Dinput and Xinput calls (which mean that on engine level both 360 and any other gamepads supported) but this damn crash during attempt to save binary config is ruining all my attempts and this probaly need to be solved by Bioware.

IF anyone from Bio reading this: Please explain why in the world u decide to store buttons mapping in binary file and why its so locked?
Please add this thing in to-do list for patch: Allow game to store key binds in regula unreal ini (bioinput.ini) file in user directory and dont let game to save buttons in profile.prf file. Also totaly unlock ini edit please!

Hey, v00d00m4n

Here's a patch some program guy named atari1980 made for the first mass effect game that enables controller support.

http://meforums.biow...07757&forum=125

I know that's a completely different game than this one, but I thought maybe there was a chance there was something in there that might be useful to you. Just trying to help.
Anyway, my Xpadder's working fine so I'm all set.

Its not patch its a custom ini in which this guy did absolutely the same trick as i did now - he used 360 ini files and pasted difference into pc ini files.

But as i say i have succes in mapping of buttons, but cant save it, because game just crash on save of binary config which includes all key binds.

Any custom ini cant be used untill Bioware will patch this issue and allow game to directly read and use key binds from coalsced.ini Image IPB

you can play how you want just not with ME2
PC ME2 is setup around mouse and keyboard note the lack of any game pad support and no the hud changes
Bioware is not going to fix it

voodoom4n a user on the ME 2 forums on gamefaqs named Soulfly28 made an ini to use the 360 controller and it works except the controls lock up during conversations. Maybe you can help him out.

why. I also contacted the guy Atari1980 for help, but he has already sold the game to

someone else. So I think, he couldn't help us a lot out of this misery.

Hope someone of ypou could.....

I use Notepad++ for editing, non hexeditior.

Game doesn't crash....got most things working (also with XBOX buttons) in this ini, except weapon wheel, seems that this function was taken out from the program code.

hi.
I managed to activate Powerwheels and WeaponWheel, but the only problem, as there is no icon visible, otherwise the game crash, apparently the files are not present in the PC version (well I think lol) but the joystick is at the location of  teammate.
and I have accelerated the speed of scanning planets.
images are better than long discourses.

and as I speak very little English,

I explained that I knew nothing was all that, so I have not managed to activate the vibrations. But I tried. if someone know the subject, this would be super nice if he could help us.

second Coalesced_MaxFuel=1500_and_MaxProbes=60 .rar

because the first, MaxFuel=1000_and_MaxProbes=30

ps: sorry for my bad english.

thank to Soulfly28 for the initial work. ;)

What do we got Xbox and Playstation for? Yes play with Controller. PC we use Joystick, mouse and keyboard. Steering wheel and pedals for all things.

Then why do they even make controllers for the PC?  I like using the Xbox controller for some games better than the mouse and keyboard.  A lot of other people do too.  And not all games come out on the consoles.  Just let it go.
