I agree with Jacks, I went in at lvl 11, with my rogue, Dog, Alistair and Lel. Alistair and Lel died early on, but Dog was absolutely amazing. When Dog gets "knocked back", he doesnt actually get knocked back but lies down, so he gets back into the fight so quick its great, and my rogue was happily backstabbing away. My rogue died with Flemeth at 20-25% to go, and Dog kept going and killed her all on his own - he has so many stuns, even at that lower lvl :)

I think Dog is far underrated by alot of people - it was after that fight that made me take him most places - except Orz when I believed I had to take Shale and Ogh into Deep Roads.

As for the dragon you see during the Urns quest, havent attempt her at all, but from the guides Ive read most of the comments about it on this thread are correct, you need fire resist like you wouldnt believe, and need to be a veteran group, so probably just before Landsmeet.

Soloed her with my rouge in Wade's Drakescale armor lol.

Get a few sets of those for your characters and you can do the fight as early as you like

I brought dog to the fight, and then a mage, rogue archer, and substituted my mains tanking to just standing far away and shooting arrows. For some reason, probably the differences in size, dog makes flemeth bug every so often you get 10-20 seconds of her just standing there staring at dog. Ample time to heal and mana up.

I wasn't happy to have her beat this way. But I was happy to be done with that quest.

I've noticed this too with other dragons, apparently you can stand below them and then they don't know what to do and just wait.

I used shale doing stone aura, I force fielded her then used the rest of my party to kill Flemeth, keep the mage away to do damage and keep everyone alive

I completed this fight at lvl 12 on Hard. My party consisted of:
- PC as sword/shield warrior using Shield Wall and Expertise to avoid knockdown
- Shale attacking at the same side as PC
- Sten attacking from the opposite side using the 2H sword which has +10 vs Dragons (can't check for the name atm) and using Indomitable to avoid knockdown
- Wynn for healing, buffs and resurrection from a distance + an occasional stone fist

It took me several attempts + a good supply of health poultices and lyrium potions.

my slaying method was Sten with indomitable on to keep him on his feet as much as qunarily possible with Wynne lobbing in Petrify and Winters Grasp to paralyse flemeth as much as possible (heck it had worked a charm on the High at Haven) between that group heal and Lyrium like its a saline IV got through that without anyone falling over but i was bouncing around like a frantic monkey to use specific powers and take the pressure off the healer with tactical health poultices

I believe there a way to not have to kill anyone.

Yep, there is. I completed the quest without killing her. Serves Morrigan right for being so mean to everyone.  ;)

She was actually pretty easy as long as you use your own tactics and not let the computer handle it. My main is sword and board, Sten, Leliana, (with constant maneuvering for best BS dmg + highest poison) and Wynne.

I kept all but Wynne at melee range and used her at max range to keep all the players buffed and healed. I went in with plenty of Healing and Lyrium pots, and only lost Sten once, and quickly rezzed him.

After about 75% I actually let the melee use their own tactics and wail away, and played as Wynne. Easier than I expected when I first saw her transform. I thought, oh crap....lol

Had alistair tank flemmeth with my 2h warrior hitting from the side, kept Wynne and Leli back out of range positioned so they would not get hit by flame breath. Had to use alot of lyrium potions to maintain healing but eventually got her down. Ended up with barely anything left and was relieved when I saw the final blow animation.

I found the High Dragon encounter alot harder though, had to alter positions and strategy many times to win that fight :P

wheras i found them the other way round the high dragon really wasnt as tough as flemeth (and i basically did those fights back to back) but then the high dragon couldnt seem to resist petrify or freezing to save its life

i had me as a mage, wynne, bard as archer and alistair. at 13, i noticed she pauses just before a flame breath so you actually have time to move out of its radius as a tank, so i controlled alister and kept him facing away from the party most of the time.

You have to be quick on heals if she grabs you so i have wynne set up for heal alister with heal/grp heal at set health lvl's and pot for myself otherwise, i also have wynne set to scoff mana potions at 25% so there is no chance of her running out. not tired using stasis if you get grabbed but that might work, i also read from the tool tips during loading that a shield bash can cause an npc to drop a chr, but with only one tank i did not get to try it.

Setting is on normal

I just took her down at lvl 12 in normal difficulity. Wynne, Alistair, Leliana and myself (primal mage). Alistair was the tank, with fire resistance, taunting in every opportunity. I don't like kiting so he was up front. Fire spells don't do much against Flemeth as she has fire resistance as a dragon. When she picks up Alistair and starts chewing him I hit her with stonefist to let him go. I used about 6 healing pots for Alistair only, and 1 mana pot for each mages.

My main was lvl 12, but the rest of the party was 11. I don't think it is possible to do without your tank having shield wall at the least. Overall I had harder time with the Ashes dragon than I did with flemeth.

My High Dragon/Flemeth team is Myself (Mage, AoE CC), Shale (tank) Wynne (healer) Liliana (ranged)

Like everyone has said.. spread ranged out, shale holds the aggro quite well. Chip away... having the force field mage spell helps too, throw it the tank and AoE like crazy if you have Blizzard or Tempest

I won at level 10. I used Allistair as an archer, Liliana as an archer, Wynne to heal and my main as a tank. I had the Yusaris Sword that helps against dragons. You also need to try to get some fire resistant armor for your tank. Use your tank to occupy the dragon. While your healer and archers fire at her with arrows and magic from her staff. Do not let her pick you up with her mouth and shake you as this is instant death. Keep moving and hit her from behind. She will kick you but you should be able to get some good shots in. Make sure you use Wynne to heal when your tank gets low on health. Also use Health Potions too. It took about 10 minutes or so and about 20 tries. But you will get it.

At level 10. Shale with flawed fire crystal + greater warmth balm tanked, facing flemeth away from the range attackers, in the tanking mode. piece of cake.

On nightmare after having completed both forest and tower so lv10-12ish. Used taunt with tank and made flemmeth face about 90 degrees away. Spread my melee dps at range w/ bows after some failed attempts at melee, too many knockbacks even at the side. Party was shale as tank, alister as 2nd tank using bow, the elf rogue w/ bow and myself as healing mage. Just used a couple of mana potions as well as some lesser health ones to top off alister and the rogue. Can't remember if shale had fire resistant crystals, didn't equip em especially for flemmeth though.

Most fights are suprisingly easy with taunt and a dedicated healer.
