I have so far **Attempted* to use the vanguard for my hardcore playthrough, and am finding the charge ability frustrating to say the least. Wondering what your opinion on what class would serve well on insanity.

Note: I loved vanguards in mass effect 1, not so much in mass effect 2.

The vanguard is a badass once you get shockwave. Shockwave/Charge combo is awesome. You can't just expect to charge charge charge. Pick off enemies and use shockwave. When their numbers dwindle pull out the shotgun and start charging and blasting.

I think il give infiltrator a try.

I am actually finding vanguard more playable now, but i definitely wont use vanguard on insanity.

So what do you think if you use soldier on insanity? Would it be bad?

Soldier if you have any decent FPS ability, sentinel if you don't.

I'd think Infiltrator is one of the best. You have high damage from long distances, an amazing class ability that adds more damage and can get you out of difficult situations and between your ammo and tech you have a method of dealing with almost any protection.

Huh.

I've only played through ME2 completely once on Normal on my Engineer.

I get the feeling that Area AI Hacking and Combat Drones takes a LOT of fire off of you and your squad and I'm sure it'd be awesome for Insanity.

I am currently playing Vanguard on Veteran, but switched it to Hardcore for Tali's mission to grab the fancy Pew-Pew. Did not have much trouble.

Geth Primes took me a while to down... Maybe it's cuz I chose my squadmates poorly -- Mordin and Jack.

I could've sworn Mordin had Incinerate. Guess not. Armor was a pain to get down.

But anyway, yeah. Vanguard held up pretty nicely on Hardcore.

I did it with soldier but i imagine infiltrator would be easier as i was just playing soldier as infiltrator when i did it using a sniper rifle and adrenaline the same way i'd use cloak

I think Soldier Infiltrator or Engineer are the easiest. Infiltrator should focus on single shot rifles and weapon dmg boosts on abilities if you want to one shot enemies on insanity. Engineer should always have a combat drone out to draw fire while you mow down your enemy (combat drone is on a 3s CD for him and makes mechs a walk in the park). Soldier is fantastic if you have an apptitude for aiming. Biotics aside from warp and one form of throw aren't really necessary, you don't even really need the throw if you're killing things in the right order.

A nice biotic combo is Warp and then Reave, give's you a great chance to do some damage.

But I think that Soldier is the easiest class to play, and I think that Adept is one of the hardest classes, especially in the beginning of the game.

The Soldier is BY FAR the most powerful class in the game.

Spam Adrenaline Rush and win. The Soldier deals more damage with every weapon than any other class.

Use the sniper rifle and be the best long-range sniper in game.

Use the shotgun and dominate in close better than a Vanguard.

Or Use the assault rifle and be a versatile whirling dervish of destruction at medium range.

Oh and you also get the most health and survivability thanks to Hardened Adrenaline Rush.

The only downside is, you probably don't want to pick any active powers. You'll do nothing but spam Adrenaline Rush and shoot things. Now I happen to love shooting things (with or without Adrenaline Rush) but your mileage may vary.

I'm loving it with my Vanguard. Charge at the first couple of levels is more suicidal than anything, or at least I found it to be - maybe that was just the learning curve. With heaps of extra barrier after a charge now, I'm zooming from enemy to enemy now and it's huge fun... charge, shotgun blast, melee, shotgun blast, get the hell out. What works best for me is getting enemies to a low resistance level on corners of whatever area you're fighting in, charging them, slaughtering them and then taking cover quickly. Quite dynamic, really.

My first playthrough was on normal with an engineer (I wish I'd played at least on veteran/hardcore on the first one, just way too easy) and I don't think that class would be bad at all for Insanity either. Drones basically make it impossible for enemies to take cover so you can pick them off; they also give you time to back out when big mechs etc charge your butt.

I'm thinking all classes do fine to be honest, naturally the soldier would be a lot easier to play with than say the Adept because you can counter all types of enemy resistances easier but that's what your squad is for! (well, that and not responding to your commands and managing to only peek their head out of cover when there's a rocket coming their way)

Edit: agreed with 2 posts up, I think Adept would be the hardest to play simply for the fact that everything has either Shields, Armour or Barriers on Insanity and everything outside of Warp isn't useful as anything but a finisher.

anything with TECH is very difficult, IMO. Your powers are only useful less than half the game. Either go full biotic or full soldier. If you are a full soldier you get a bonus biotic talent if you want it. I use slam. I take a couple biotics with me and we'll slam everybody without a shield within a few seconds. Then I use disruptor or inferno ammo on the remaining baddies until their shields and armor go down (which is easy with an AR) (and spam Adrenaline Rush). Then I slam them too. A full biotic might be fun, but going up against bosses will be tough since only a couple of your powers will work and then you have to use close range weapons or snipe with your hand cannon.

Dude I have tried the soldier on insantity and I've only gotten as far as the collector ship. And can't get past it so no soldier sucks on insanity

Surprisingly enough, playstyles do play a part in each person's success with each class.

I wasn't aware that so few enemies used shields or armor, both of which tech is able to dominate.  I found Infiltrator lackluster, but my Engineer with Armor Piercing rounds dominated on Insanity (though I did change to Warp ammunition before the final mission).

As a Soldier with Warp Ammo was a good Challenge
