I get the quest to talk to the revered mother in order to free Sten from his cage, but whenever I try to go into the Chantry to talk to her my game crashes.  I went into the Chantry fine before talking to him, so I don't know if the quest is bugging it out or what... :-/

I use Windows XP, AMD Phenom II X4 940

I'm having looads of crashes in Lothering, everytime I enter a loading screen or something special happense it crashes for me.. I can play for barley 2-5 mins and then it crashes! I'm also using an AMD Phenom II x4 940 and I have a gigabyte motherboard wich does not add up to the plot...
If I do not restart my pc after a very game crash.. the games almost crashes instantly and my computer gets to a quick blue screen and restarts. I might also add - this also happense to a game called Borderlands from time to time.

ive played for 12 hours and the only 2 crashes Ive had where in Lothering.

Before that and now after that ive had no crashes. To me it seems to be a bug in the game.

I have a similar problem. The game crashes every time I try to leave the Chantry in Lothering. Even if I load a previous save, then enter and try to leave it still crashes. Every time.  Though, I am able to enter and leave the tavern in Lothering a great multitude of times without crashing at all.

We should try to get everyone that has a crash problem in Lothering to post in a single thread, since doing so might bring more attention from the developers.

I tried adjusting my graphic settings to the lower level (textures, anti-alias, and quality) and this seem to have worked.

I crash as well exiting the Chantry. Every time, with every one of my characters.

I had this problem and the work around was to turn all your setting to low as well as turning off buffer and vertical sync and then try to walk out. Then return setting to normal. This also goes for saves not loading. At least it worked for me

Same problem here; game always crashes when I want to leave the Chantry in Lothering, and randomly,  after 1 or 2 hours of gameplay when it has to load an area.
Hopefuly, lowering the graphic details solved the problem in Lothering, thanks rnc100 .

What was the blue screen stop code?  Any errors in your event log from when it happened?  If it happens in another game, it's not game specific, may be overheating, video card supported or not; your power supply may not be able to handle what your vid cards needs; etc.

For everyone else, in Denerim I had the crash to desktop at loading a save; After browsing, updating, etc for hours and hours, I lowered my graphics card settings to the lowest possible, and made sure DAO settings reflected that, and I could load my save perfectly.

I found running it in window mode allowed me to get by my issue of entering the Chantry. Note that I only crash if I go get the rogue and enter with her... but using windowed mode fixed my issue so I could go in with the rogue.

indeed. lowering thy setting also did good for me. but it seems the vertical sync might be the cause of such misfortunes. matters not, for thy is too lazy to try and find out.
