tiaguim that seems to be a neat link you planted there, unfortunately:
Problem #10 : Mass Effect 2 Freezing on loading screen
Solution : No known fix at the moment.

Fix:
playing
720dpi loading movies while trying to load the game. I downloaded an
unofficial patch that replaced the loading movies by green squares
(blank video). The game loaded fine. No animations during loadings
though.

........

where can i get that patch???? :)

I don't have this problem, but a friend of mine did. He fixed it by simply re-installing it.

I think the problem is that there is some sort of temporary cache placed on your hard drive, and when you crash something in it is corrupted, so whenever it loads that corrupted locally stored cache, it crashes. I used to see this a lot with Oblivion and NWN2, since both stored OBSCENE amounts of temporary texture info in a special folder. You'd have to manually delete everything in that folder every so often or risk it getting corrupted.

That's why when these folks are re-installing it goes away. Since the temp. cache is wiped during an uninstall.

There is a better way to work around it since the patch show green squares instead of the loading movies.

Simply wait for the movie at the title screen by not pressing any keys, like I mentioned before.
...Then, start your game.

If you still want the patch you can donwload it here
http://www.fulldls.c...es-2051747.html

Or google "mass effect 2 no intro single core fix".

You'll need to replace your loading movies files by the ones supplied here. (there should be a readme file explaining how to do it).
BACKUP your original folder before doing it you WILL need the original files to get past the Reaper IFF mission.

wait are you talking about the INTRO movies?
because i have no problem with those. it's the first loading screen after you create a new character (selected either male or femole, or when you clicked OK after you selected an ME1 save). the loading screen looks like the hologram of a mass relay.

if that's what you're talking about, you mean that i might be having the single-core thing problem? because i thought that only caused sloppy performance, but im literally FROZEN (well at least for 2 hours+ thats the longest i let it load).

I'm having the same issues. Ive reinstalled the game and I still get the ME2 has stopped working message even when I run as an administrator. My game was running fine except for a few random crashes. The last time it crashed, I restarted my computer and now I cant play the game. This is very frustrating to say the least. I guess I will have to play dragon age until Bioware puts a fix or something.....

Yes, those are the ones I'm talking about. It makes the Mass Effect 2 task and process to "Stop Responding" lolol.
I think the patch also replaces the first 2 intro movies but I didn't have a problem with those either.

Just replace the files named "loading'#'.bik" - Those are the loading ones. BACKUP your original files!!!!

Also the workaround where you wait at the "Press any key" screen for the trailer to play out, only works for a couple of minutes...
Then the loading screens start freezing again. -_-'

Good Luck

thanks!!!! that helped, BUT the cinematic that immediately follows your profile overview (the one with the woman and man sitting in a chair, sun in the background) is going very laggy :S
any suggestions?
it also seems that playing the cinematic lags my whole PC. major lag when i press ctrl+alt+del :(

EDIT: the lag (chugging) continues even when the playing starts (thus when you need to actually control shepard to get him to save joker)

also ive noticed that the background music does NOT chug, though voices and the cinematic do.

EDIT2: i also noticed that in the ME2 config menu, it says i have 1 processor with inly 1 core. however, mina is a dual core.

EDIT3: for some reason it doesnt lag my pc any more when i go to task manager while running the game.
also i've noticed that during the beginning cinematic people's lips DONT MOVE when they talk.
is that a mistake by bioware or is it just my version/pc/...

and most importantly(?) i managed to increase performance (but still way off from any good/playable) by setiing all settings to HIGH instead of low (anistrophic filtering is on x16 now)

EDIT4: strangely, when i started ME2 for like the billionth time, it suffered only minor lagging and i played through the intro mission. even more strange, when i tried to continue after that, it started chugging AGAIN.

wtf?

I guess you do not have any overheating issues MEjoris20 since you are running your system water-cooled. Do you run any parts overclocked? My overclocked GPU worked fine with many other games, but ME2 had some issues. Lowered clock of GPU and Mem clock by 5% working fine now.

hang on there i am not the original poster. sorry i am actually stealing his topic  but well... i provide info too :)
mine's NOT water-cooled, but i never got this problem with ME1, or any other game.

not overclocked either.

weird thing is i was suddenly able to play through one mission without lag, and boom it strikes again afterwards.

You mean AMD Athlon64 x2 5200+
Because those processors, I believe, have only one Logical core under the Operating System, thus resulting in the same single-core processor issues.

You can get a Dual core optimizer from the AMD website, though I'm unsure if it will solve all your problems.

But yeah, with those specs you should be able to run the game withouth the chuggings you mention.

I would also sometimes get this but only happens to me during a battle.

Same here....my crashes always happen in combat ..... Crashed once yesterday after about 9 hours of play at the final battle where you try to pick up the Krogan character. All I ever have to do is restart the game....Save Save Save......LoL  Sorry to see your sittuation seems to have worsened OP over the weekend since I was on here last.

I'm getting the same thing, crashes in battle. I don't think it happens when only using biotic powers since it didn't happen with my adept. But with my vanguard I'm getting regular crashes in battle.

Sometimes I'll go long periods of time without crashes, but once a crash happens I have to reboot or it'll keep crashing.

Easiest way is to throw the game in the bin and never buy another Bioware game again. Maybe when lost sales start to bite into profit margins, they'll start responding more quickly to problems or go under completely.

The knew from past games that the Bink video won't run on a single core processor but still insist on stating a single core processor as the minimum spec on the packaging. I am already considering legal action for this, it is nothing less than fraud.

Lack of response to problems emailed to their support dept, total apathy to the fact that they have misled people with false advertising and a refusal to comment or fix the problem they have now created.

This stinks of another Ion Storm - Daikatana incident. Game stopping bugs were totally ignored by Ion Storm and no support was ever offered, thier only answer every time was, "we are working on it", but nothing ever came out. 8 months later, everyone gave up trying to contact them and the faith in the company as a game developer had gone.

Quite amusing that Ion Storm went under just after that incident, is it Bioware's intention to follow in their footsteps?

lol Dude I feel your pain...
You might have something there in the requirements if you explore the lack of definition of what IS a Intel Core Duo AMD equivalent since it's part of the minimal specs.
Because if the AMD64 X2 series is considered an equivalent, then you might have a case. LOL

Glad you got your game running MEjoris20. ;)

Anyways, It's too bad PC gaming is less profitable then consoles these days.
There's no doubt most of this negligence is directly related to that.

That said Bioware, for me, is still the best game studio in existence. And I'll always look forward to their games.

Well, I'd thought that this particular message thread seemed less representative of the majority of such past message threads here.  It has been my feeling that a fairly large number of these error problems had been due to buyer carelessness.  The System Requirements are prominiently printed for view, somewhere on the side, back, or on an end flap of all PC games.  Ignoring the label did turn out to beis the cause most common, and Intel's very bad excuse for graphics was the culprit.  It was tue, to an extent, but that is somewhat misleading.

If you disagree, you will need to complete a normal PC Problem report, and it should not be in this screwy old thread.  Create a new one of your own and fill it in with the needed diagnostic information.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1537629

PC MINIMUM System Requirements

Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

P. S. (Added in Edit Mode) I will probnably take a look at the 35 message threads with this error message in the subject line to see haw many others fell short of a useful conclusion the way this particular one did.
