When I open Mass Effect, the initial loading screen pops up, the screen then goes black and a dialog box pops up that says that Mass Effect has stopped working. I've updated all my drivers, I've disabled UAC, I'm running it as an administrator, I've tried several different compatibility modes. I just can't seem to get it to run. Please Help.

I would sometimes get this pop up during a battle. Very annoying. Good thing there are autosaves...

Whoever said disabling UAC should take a few cources in Vista101
UAC keeps everything from your username to itself... if you ever got a virus or whatnot it would almost be contained to that user alone...
Just change the affinity

I'm having the same problem. It's pretty irritating.

People Who Are Experiencing A Black Screen When Trying To Start The Game Should Do This
1. Insert CD2 (if readable if not you might be sol?)
2.locate the english.rar (if your and english user)
3. Run WinRar, WinZip, 7-zip As An Admin.
4. Extract English.rar to your game directory.
5.Try To Play.
If This Does not Work I Dont Know It Worked For Me.

I have been able to play the game before this happend, It's only after the latest crash that I had to reboot my computer and try again, when I found myself unable to even launch the game.
Also, my ME2 folder is at like 12GB, I dont think anything is missing.

I have experienced the exact same thing as mr_luga, only I'm running Steam. I got all the way to the final boss fight before it started and now I get the "Mass Effect has stopped working." dialogue after the "Press any key" dialogue as the screen fades to black.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled via Steam numerous times, to no avail. Thankfully, I was able to find and move my savegame file beforehand... just need a fix for this.

,, Where did I put what? Please spesify :-) WHere did I install the game? On an external HD, I created the folder for it to install in.
That's not the issue though, becouse I re-installed it onto my main HDD later on, and it crashed there too.
