Just decided to have another runthrough of ME2 and I ran into this same problem. Even starting the game with my connection disabled leads me to an in-game notification box that hangs the game the moment I click OK.

Have you tried any of the fixes listed in this thread, namely....

In order to rectify this, open up a command protmp, and type this in.

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

This will disable ECN funcitonality, and allow you to connec to the servers. Note, this will not fix the automatic login problem, that still exists, but it will allow you to connect manually.

I didn't buy the Ultimate Edition.  I never log in from the game(s).  I've had rather few problems.  I didn't "need" the bad patches 1.03 and 1.04 for DAO, haven't needed to run any of the games in Vista or Win7 (since WinXP remains the better game playing OS of the three), although I have copies of Win7 (never got any Vista).  Just pointing these things out . .

off topic but absolutely agree with XP being the best and most stable OS for gaming. sorry to anyone using Vista but not only are you crazy, you're screwed, and as for Win7, one day, but not today. DX10+ is still not worth dealing with an unfinished OS.

If you are on Vista or Win7, try the fix i mentioned a few posts up. If that doesnt work, try running the game as admin, disable auto login, manually connect, and then reenable auto login.
If that still fails, post your details as per the read first thread.

Is there anything that will help particularly with a problem as follows:

"Communication with the Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out. Please try again later."

Yes, reading this thread, the Tech FAQ, or the other thread thats on the front page will help with this problem.

Why do I say it? Because I get tired of repeating myself, especially when the answer is right in front of them in the way of the Tech FAQ, and the "How to Report a Problem" threads, both of which are stickied at the top of the forum.

I had issues getting Cerberus network to work so I could validate Kasumi dlc, I have a PC and use windows 7 so I hope this will help vista/Xp users some what. Go to control Panel, you should see the search bar in the top right, type: Windows Features, Programs and Features should pop up, select Turn Windows Features on or off, you should see a box blocked it for Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1 select the plus sign and check the box for both windows communication foundation HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation, press ok and give it a try, hope it works for you like it did me, best of luck.

This solution worked +1 more.  Connection to Cerberus Network achieved, all DLC seems to be registered, although 2 out of 4 still are listed as "available" on the Cerberus Network screen.  1 of those 2 were downloaded and completed in my very first playthrough long ago, so that was weird.

Manual loging after the server communication error msg was working for me. Then suddenly the auto-log started to work.
