Exactly........I certainly hope that Bioware pays attenting to the Metacritic score, the sales to determine how they will shape ME3...

I cant rememver, but were there this many ****y people on the boards when ME1 came out? Gezzus, I absolutely love this place as much as I would Omega (in real life)

wooow while it is your opinion to dislike the game im an original fan of the game like many others on here and i loved the experience and the gameplay although a bit retard at times in ME 1. I just completed ME 2 twenty minutes ago and i have to be honest that this is one of the best games ive played ever along with ME 1. The combat changes were needed and they proved to be more effiecient and well rounded. Anyone who is a true fan of this series knows combat was quirky and at times completely sucked in the first ME lets be honest here. I did miss the all the upgrades as far as different types of armour and guns from the first game but i must admit the scaled back version of the armour and upgrades made sense and was more realistic.. this is high tech futuristic scenarios do u think with all the tech advances in the game story that 200 guns and 150 types of armour would be necessary or the simple use of research, materials and egineering can further advance all of that....i think maybe they did shortchange some of the weapons upgrades back a bit too much and the choice to outfit your team with different types of armour but the story was as solid as can be and the tweaked combat is for keeps. AI was still spotty at times but i played on veteran out the box and i have to say AI has took a huge leap over the idiots in ME 1. GREAT GAME! BIOWARE PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH out that ME 3 Commander Lamar Shepard(my Sheps name lol) is ready to kick HARBINGERS SORRY ASS! and have lots of babies with Miranda she is ssssooooooooo friggin dreadnought hot...

Yeah yeah there are always lovers and haters and others. Personally I'm on my third play through and I'm still giddy and jumpy when the SR2 is revealed, I get a bit teary eyed when characters make big personal reveals I even got tear eyed when my characters I liked died at the end. This games characters makes connections. Even though they aren't real.

The shooter crowd were whining up a storm that they had to put points into shooting mechanic after ME1.

Still laugh at you people though. People disagree with you so their whining. Nice logic.

Only whiners/trolls I see are those trying to stop people from execizing their right to speak their minds about the game.

We mostly let the shooters **** to high hell after ME1 (probably a mistake after seeing effects in ME2) but they cant return the favor or decency obviously.

Speak for yourself OP, I'm a huge fan of the first and by comparison it is wholly inferior to the second. Why? Well:

1) No more of the bland generic planets that are copied and pasted, where you go gallivanting in a car with some of the worst controls in a video game, looking for objects (Turian medals, Matriarchal writings) and other nonsense that is never mentioned again and is completely irrelevant to the story.

2) All quests are unique and levels are hand crafted, and actually has some semblance of a back story of what took place. From memory, I don't recall any of the side quests having this in the first game. All resources reused and copy and pasted with no variety.

3) Better Normandy

4) No more horrible inventory system which gets overloaded with vendor trash in 5 minutes.

5) Actual character development, with individual missions being fleshed out instead of the truly forgettable personal quests from the first game.

Seriously OP, you really want to go back to all of the above? I call bull**** and you're just delusional.

There's a number of misconceptions that need clearing up on this thread.

1.  The reviews are honest and accurate,  and this is a classic:
Reviews aren't honest,  nor are they accurate.  Gamespot got nailed firing people for not skewing reviews to the advertising dollars.  Another website went on record stating what the rules are to previews,  and if you break said rules,  you get denied previews and review copies.  The rules,  as one might expect,  are basically "Review it like it's the greatest game ever and don't say a negative word."

The sites are not,  and have not been on the consumer's side for years.  There's a reason why every "Blockbuster" game gets incredible reviews and very little criticism,  and it's not because they're great.  There's no greater sign of this than Oblivion.  The reviewers praised it as the greatest thing ever,  narry a negative word...until Fallout 3 was announced,  then these same people had loads of negatives which "Fallout 3 fixes!".  Interesting isn't it that this game could be so flawless,  right up until there was a new game coming?  It's simple.  The game always had the problems,  it just wasn't in their best interests to tell you about it.  It was in their best interests to tell you to buy it.

Which makes you wonder,  if there's evidence that the sites are willing to make sure reviews are positive,  how valid are the "User reviews" on those sites?

Mass Effect 2 isn't a classic.  It has none of the qualities that would make it so.  As a shooter,  it fails,  it's AI is sub-par,  it's weapons are vanilla,  it doesn't present any interesting and challenging situations,  it has no scripted elements.  It's walk into a room and shoot stupid.

As an RPG,  it fails,  mainly because it's not at all an RPG.  Which I'll explain...

2.  Mass Effect 2 is not an RPG,  and there is no way to define it as such.

An RPG is a digital conversion of a Pen and Paper Role Playing Game.  Just like digital Monopoly is a conversion of a board game.  It requires the same qualties that make a PnP RPG at it's heart.  It requires Character Based Skill.  An RPG is a game in which you take on the role of some other Character,  and solve challenges and progress story based on that character,  NOT YOU.  Your skills are irrelevant,  or to be very blunt,  your ability to aim a mouse/controller is irrelevant.  It is about the character,  and his skills,  not your ability to point at something on screen.

The rules are very well defined.  Your character is not you.  Your character's skills are not yours.  Mass Effect 2 fails that,  ME2 is all about your skills,  even to the point of having moral decisions being a matter of pushing a button quickly.

Having experience points and skills is irrelevant if the deciding factor of all things is your reflexs.  You can completely remove the whole thing from Mass Effect 2 and the game still functions pretty much without issue,  as is extremely obvious,  because you can play the thing without using any of it.

Does not matter what it says on the box.  It's not an RPG.  If Player Skill is all that the game is based on,  it's not an RPG.  The word Role in the acronym means you take on the Role of the Character,  and *his* skills.  Not the other way around.  The word for the other way around is Avatar,  and the type of game is not Avatar Playing Game.

3.  "The people on the forums don't matter"/"Everyone who's happy never posts".

There's no evidence of this.  All it is,  is a long standing strawman thrown up by the defenders on any given board when they can't actually counter-point the arguements.  There's no super-secret poll site that shows that everyone is in fact happy,  and that only 2 people are unhappy with the game.

I've seen it on every board,  for every game that has controversy,  and there's never been a scrap of evidence that it's valid.  Mainly because it's absolutely impossible to prove,  because the only way to prove it is to contact every single person who bought the game.

I like the game. Its a completely different aproach; in fact I like the DAO style for a RPG, (inventory, equipment) but, as a FPS hardcore player, I'm enjoying really of ME2. And we have the same things than a RPG, but simplified to make the action and story more important. And the story is great, so far... Hell, I've surprised myself smiling or openly laughing with some of the dialogs... (Zareed is great). I can't remember any game that has made this to me (except some BG lines years ago, and maybe Mokey Island, but I was too young). This is the way, bioware... and please, dont let this universer die after ME3.

I never played ME1. I loved ME2 - about to start my 2nd play through. The writing, voice acting and facial animations are exceptional; one particular point in the game slightly freaked me out - and loved it.

Elements I'd like to see improved upon include combat and side missions. I'm not a fan of the cover system; while I think it was done well, I felt it made combat far too cookie-cutter and predictable - not a complaint on AI, but rather on the rectangular objects used for cover; every time you see them, you know combat is imminent. If I could have MW2's combat with ME2's story, I'd be in heaven.

Side missions significantly lack the same drama as the main storyline missions. Also, I quickly grew tired of the planet resource gathering side game. These are marginal gripes for a superb game. I don't regret my purchase, at all, and look forward to many more hours of enjoyment.

Actually I think ME2 is completely different genre on it's own, it's something that they have been making more of, It's a playable movie. KOTOR games almost fell into that, then ME was even closer ME2 isn't quit there. But it's a blunt movie that you play.

1.  You must've just started playing video games in the last 2 years.  The controls were perfectly fine.

2.  Hand-crafted and poor quality.  Go look at the normandy wreckage quest.  Wanna tell me why it is that they couldn't find the 20 missing people,  5 of whom hid in boxes during an alien attack instead of getting in an escape pod?  Was the entire rescue team handicapped and unable to open a box?  Was Normandy's crew insane and thought a box would protect them from destruction?  No.  Someone just thought it'd make it harder to go collect the trinkets if they put them in a box,  never mind it makes absolutely no sense.

3.  Seriously?  The game is better because the "Normandy is better"?  It's got like 3 more rooms,  none of which actually do anything.

4.  No,  now there's no inventory system.  Just a pretty standard FPS system which occasionally lets you choose a gun.

5.  Character Development?  Um,  only if you consider random unrelated bits and pieces character development.  The other night I broke into an apartment and looted it,  then broke into another apartment and looted it in front of it's owners without them saying a word.  Then I broke into a third apartment,  and gave some NPC's heck for breaking into apartments and looting them.  Except that's what I'd been doing,  and why I was in there,  and that was the "Good people" response.  I'm sorry,  Character Development would've required them to actually have something sensical in there.

I'd strongly recommend you go take another look,  you appear to be having some delusions about what's actually in the game...

I was a very big fan of the first game, I'm not disappointed with ME2, though there are disappointing things about it.

Overall, I'd say 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

Alright, let me try to elaborate on something here. I'm pretty sure I didn't say this in this thread.

Allow me to respectfully apologize for saying EVERYBODY. I have no idea why I used a stupid generalization like that given I'm usually articulate on forums. The following generalization is one I feel is more based in reality.

Spanning from the original boards, the gamers on this forum seem to in my opinion fall into 1 of 4 categories.

The first being the RPG fans who like loot and level grinding.

The second being shooter or to a lesser extent action fans who feel combat is just as important as the plot and character interaction.

The third being shooter and or action fans who feel combat should take priority ABOVE plot and character interaction and as I've said like 'SPLOSHUNS.

The fourth are RPG fans who above all else feel games live and die by story and character interaction.

I and another forum member Nozy fall into the latter group. Fans from this latter group feel the combat overshadowed the plot and "dumbed down" the sequel compared to ME. This is the popular consensus on other boards as well when it comes to people from the latter category. Here's to hoping I explained myself better this time.

I am sincerely... disappointed! I mean people say I am because i expect to much, but i didn't. I played ME1, good, even great, but not the best. Then I bought Me2 to see if i get the same feeling.

I didn't.

I felt like a lot was missing. I've finished the game and expected more, but i was sorely disappointed. First, it was WAY to short. I mean i have a friend who can finish the game in around 8 hours on a weekend. He got most side-quests, all team members, and all their loyalties too. Second, where are all of the equipment? I mean where is the fun of an RPG game if there is no room for customization besides being able to change your armor's color. And having at only 20 weapons isn't really big. Third, just look at the exploration value. There are only around, i don't know, 5 major cities, all of them sized down to half of what Me1 had. All the shops don't update. Absolutely nothing is new...

There is the good combat system. but without RPG elements, how is it an RPG. There is absolutely no replayability , and if you don't import your data(like me since my old account is inactive) the game basically gives you bad choices, like Wrex being killed, the Council dead, and Udina as the Leader? Wow, Bioware basically is saying "Get ME1 or else ME2 will suck".

Basically my opinion in a nutshell:

If bioware doesn't release a DLC that will fix at least one of these problems, I will have to say this is one of the biggest disappointments i have ever played, and im already regretting buying the game. And also, i think the hype gave this game all the perfect scores from all the major gaming sites. If I were to give this a score, it would be at least 8 or 8.5. And that's because i don't want to be too mean to the developers. Good gaem, but over-rated nonetheless.

I think this is spot on myself.

What's with the need to label games and pigeon hole them into genres anyway? I never understood it with music and I don't understand the need with games either, if you enjoy it who cares what genre it is?

My first gaming experience was with the Atari 2600 and I've owned and played a lot of games in my life, it would probably scare me if I had kept track how many I've played.

Personally for me Mass Effect 2 has replaced Zelda OoT as 'the best game ever made' so I'm certainly not disappointed and neither is anyone I know.

And say that you saying that the plot and Character development is lack is the biggest load of BS I've heard in years.  ME2 has a much deeper plat and more conecting and moving character development than any other game I've ever played.  The ME series so far is like a movie and it's sequal, you keep the main character and get visits from other characters,  Excpet you get to pick and choose the way those characters interact.

LOL, I thought that was pretty clear to anyone that could think (hmmm maybe talk slower and use smaller words for the shooter fans now you mention it Image IPB )

I actually dont know if dumbed down the right term anymore.

The story was there, your effect on the story wasnt. Thats the big issue for most long term Bioware fans.

In ME1 everything we did mattered on how the story would unfold
In DA:O everything we did mattered on how the story would unfold

In ME2, nothing but the end game mattered, it was all predetermined for us.
Just like the loyalty quests, why didnt we have to earn/gain influence on the different party members for them to trust us with so personal quests? Instead when the game decided it was time, we were told where to go and how to do it, the end.

The story is still fantasitic, its just excludes RPG options we come to expect from Bioware games.

I rank ME2 slightly above Jade Empire and only because JE was so short. If JE had been only 10 hours longer, it would be above ME2 as well.

This is simply a shooter with a great linear story

In comparison to the ones who are content with the game, the majority that not only post here but on other forums are not happy with the result of ME2. Hopefully Bioware will take note that alienating their existing fanbase to "bring in players that didn't play the original", in other words, shooter fans, is not a smart move, whether it's from an ethics standpoint or business.

Well, you have to keep in mind that most players who visit the forums do it to complain about something. I bet only 3-5% of the people who are playing the game come here to complain, while the rest of the players are enjoying it.
