Does your Religion play a factor in your character?

I am proud of my Christianity and not afraid to put it right out there. However, my question is this, does your religion and beliefs play a role in the character you play and how you play it (In this case directly related to how you will play your DA character, so as not to be off-topic)?
Very curious about this and it's not something that typically comes up.

Short answer: Nope. My multi-layered belief system plays no part in my characters. Ever.

My lack of religion most certainly does not play a role.

but if i'm playing a character who is a wizard or templar of course i will play it in line with what religion the character would or should have.
Ie- the mage most likely will worship dark gods and demons.
the templar most likely will somewhat worship the dominant religion associated with that type.
if i do do a templar run- i will most likely make the templar very closely resemble the historical templars and all thier human sucesses and failings.

Yes, it does. I don't just mean real life religion. I take inspiration from several religions when I design my characters, part from Islam, part from Hindu, part from Taoism, all depending on what I wish to roleplay. I don't narrow myself to just one, but the one I find most appeal is norse mythology.
Why? It doesn't hold any good morals or are even all that well-told stories. It's about gods having flaws and acting mortal and stupidly. It is an echo of what people were like back in those days and it's very honest. It doesn't try to play on some higher field, it seems to know exactly what it is.
A bunch of stories about debauchery and getting drunk. I can get behind that.

Sorry to the atheists, the question didn't really fit there...obviously if you have no religion, it doesn't play a role.
Nice to see some other Christians out there too. I have nothing against any other religions or lack thereof, just to put that out there. I am no better than anyone else, and do not judge...but it's nice to have people around who believe what you believe.
Thanks for the replies...very interesting stuff.
@Mordaedil:
Very cool, I like that idea, taking from other religions..also a good idea to do, so your character will fit the world better.
I guess this could have been more of a morals question rather than religion. I have high morals because of my religion, but I definately incorporate that into my characters. I have a really hard time playing evil characters, or doing senseless things..even if I try. Very much like my real self.

I don´t like being told what to believe or how my morales should look like, not in RL nor ingame.
My character still ends up as the goody-two-shoes but thats me using common sense not giving in to some morale code.

Myself I will often play through the first time making moral decisions as I would make them myself. But on later plays through I like to try playing characters who's morals and beliefs are nothing like mine.

Same here. Being an atheist, I usually play my first character as myself. If it is really a big plot point (such as in this game with the Chantry, and in the Witcher with the OOTFR) I usually also do a run as a believer, to get maximum value out of the game, but the majority of my characters are typically non-religious. I just find it difficult to place myself into the mind of a believer, and the way they reason is odd and uncomfortable.CID-78 wrote...
I rarely play a religious figure but if I do, I usually go to the extreme. but one thing is for sure. I don't like religious followers.
EDIT: And yes, I do have a moral compass of my own.

I think it can of depends on whether you draw on yourself at all when creating a character or creating a fictional persona outside of yourself. If it's the latter I can see how your own religion or morals have nothing to do with your character.
Personally my characters are extensions of myself, I try to make them look like me and think somewhat like me, they will have different nuances and do and say things I never would but generally they are based on what kind of person I tend to be. My spiritual beliefs are based on neo-paganism and pantheism, the belief that nature is divine or divinity itself. So naturally the character I am the most drawn to in this game are the Dalish elves. That said I also have a strong leaning towards a magi elf.

It plays a role by not playing a role in the game if you know what I mean:PNewYears1978 wrote...
