Was Dragon Age an afterthought?

Mass Effect 2 is superior to Dragon Age in every possible way. The graphics are tons better, the action and combat is much more smooth, the story seems more detailed and fleshed out, the characters are more developed, I could go on and on.
My question is why?
Dragon Age was in development for what.......3 times as long as ME 2? Wasn't the dev time about 10 years? If not it was VERY close to it. Why is DA so far below the level that ME 2 is?
Did you guys just get sick of working on it? Were you just ready to get the thing released after all this time? Is ME 2 the goldmine that EA was looking for, therefor more money was pumped into the project?
I just don't get it.
I didn't realize just how far behind DA was until I experienced the gloriousness of Mass Effect 2.

I am just confused as to how a game that had a third of the dev time ended up so much better.

But, that's my personal opinion. I just prefer DA:O.
They're entirely different types of games, and because of that not really comparable though. To someone preferring shooters and fast-paced games, ME2 will be more interesting. To someone preferring old-styled RPG's, DA:O will be more interresting.

Although it's kind of stupid to post on a game's own board and expet to find a lot of people who think that another game is much better....
Actually, forget I said anything. Nobody's that dumb.

Just because you, personally, prefer ME2 means that DA was an afterthought? What a conceited, self-centered, idiotic stance.

From a crafting standpoint,Mass effect 2 is indeed vastly superior but it's not fair to compare both game.
The original Mass effect team had member which got replaced for various reason (strongest being their job not so well done).I think the same thing will happen with Dragon age 2 and we will have a vastly improved game.

all that dev and even the dlc's are extremely sub par..im with stronghold on this one
I thought Mass effect was subpar and Dragon age had more of everything.
And as said Mass effect 2 used an already existing engine while dragon age engine was build from scratch, I think Dragon age 2 will be much better, and hey I think Mass effect 2 will be better than the original to but I havent played it yet.
But the point is there is no reason to compare Mass effect 2 and Dragon age.

DA got 9.5 on Gamespot, ME2 got 9.0. So what can we use this for? Abselutely nothing.nick05son wrote...
Alanc9... bad taste in games rofl...ign gave their 3rd highest rating of all time with ME2 donkey...
They are both great games.
End of line. (Hwaha, i feel like a guy from bioware when i say this).
EDIT: And i think it is silly arguing which of these are better when they are SUPERIOR to so many games out there.
These games have that quality that around 0.5% of games made these days have.
