I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but drakes / dragonlings keep POPPING out of nowhere and appearing right next to my party. Why the hell are enemies being spawned while I'm in the room??

who's to say they can't come through the floor..it does add to the fight..that + enemies with stealth..get used to it.

But they're not coming out of stealth (and they certainly aren't coming out of the floor). They are being spawned, while I'm in the room, right next to my guys who are already fighting cultists.

yeah that area is so irritating. I got into the caverns and decided to reload to an earlier save and go somewhere else. I feel like my gear is just too poor for that area and every fight takes forever.

There is one room/cave, when you enter it three dragons spawn behind you in the alley through which you entered the cave. Could anybody kill them. I have tried several times on normal and easy, but I don't stand a chance. They use shred and kill you in one action.
My team is me, warrior with shield, Alistair, Morrigan and Leliane. Morrigan has cone of cold, but the dragons do come fast out of it and it is difficult to not freeze your own team members. I have tried to split them up, one kiting and the other three nuking a separated mob, but there is too much micromanagement involved. ith this team I did a smooth Circle of Mages-Fade run. So I don´t know if it is bad game balance or bad playing on my side.

It's doable, even on nightmare. I'd say check your tactics to make sure each party member is doing on their own what you need most. Do your buffs before going in if you can but if not, you can set your tactics to do that also or just be quick about jumping to each person who can give out the buffs. If you're fast enough, you can get that done before anyone hardly moves.
Also you can hold your party (unless there is a cut scene before the fight) so that they don't rush in before Morrigan can get some CC done.

Very tough but not impossible. Possible suggestions:ervanol wrote...

Two sword and shield warriors is excessive. Ditch Alistair. Leliana isn't very good at dps. Ditch her. Replace with Zevran and Wynn. Try to keep the drakes concentrating on you, use Morrigan to freeze them, keep Zevran flanking them and use poisons. Wynn hopefully can help protect and heal you. She hopefully has that spell that boosts defense for a short time, use that on your character and the one that boosts attack on Zevran.
Sometimes you get lucky and they decide not to use their special attacks. Go figure.

My nightmare room in that cave is the one that holds the Arcane Warrior Overseer. The very first time I ever entered it, my PC and her merry band got their butts handed to them in a matter of a minute or two. It didn't help that they were swarmed with cultists, dragonlings and drakes, which seemed to be all over the place.

Ok, I think good crowd control will do the trick. My Morrigan has also paralyze. However that one got resisted a number of times. BTW the dragons are yellow, so if one chain is missing ... game over.
There is no cutscene that triggers the fight, but, as I said, they spawn at some moment behind you. There is no static positioned foe that you can attack.

I watch my map when I know it's going to happen. As soon as those red dots show up, I'm holding the party, switching to my mage and throwing the CC control back there. If I remember correctly, if you stop soon enough, only a few foes come at you from in front of you if you stop soon enough.
And like Creature said above, sometimes you just gotta keep doin' it until you get lucky.

The 3 drakes in that room spawn when you approach the stairs leading up to where the arcane warrior is standing. All you have to do is not approach that area and you can pull the other mobs to you and kill them and then spawn the 3 drakes as a separate fight if you so choose.
