Hey everyone,

I'm considering replaying ME1 to get a new ending. In the one game that I finsihed (started several) I beat the game, let the council die and elected whats his face (not Udina) to be the Councilor. His role in ME2 was very insubstantial. What happens if you start a new game that isn't based on a ME1 save?

What happens to the plot if you save the council or elect Udina instead? Are there substantial plot differences or different quests available? Does starting a new character take into acount possible actions you took in the original? ANyone that knows please feel free to reveal everything you know. I was disappointed with the minor-ness of my end-game decision from ME1.

BUmping this. Anyone tried to play with different ME1 characters? I'm debating re-buying the original...

I've beaten ME2 twice so far. The first playthrough was with my renegade soldier who let the council die, and then picked Anderson to lead. Second playthrough was my paragon Vanguard who saved the council and picked Udina to lead. I also was very disappointed at the minor impact of the council decision, although I understand why it makes sense, since the council tends to avoid the Terminus systems like a plague. So, to answer your question, the only major difference is if you saved the council, when you meet Udina/Anderson at the Presidium, the council will be there in holograms. They once again refuse to believe that the Reapers are real, but offer you spectre status again. I told them to shove that offer up their asses. Saved their lives and they still are ignorant bastards.

When you start a new character, Miranda asks you if you remember whether Anderson or Udina became the human council member and the original council is dead. Whoever you choose is who it it, but it makes no great impact on quests or anything.

I was also curious about the impact of ME1 desicions on ME2. It seems to me they didn't have much influence. I chose to save the council, but they were only in one scene. By saving the queen there is a person on Illium you can talk to briefly with a message. The romances are briefly encountered. I had Wrex alive so he was leading the Krogans. Other minor references were made, but does anyone know if there were any significant impacts? Or should we wait until ME3 to find out ;)

Thats really disappointing. After the promise of how ME1 would effect ME2, those decisions seemed "climactic" at the time. ME2 and ME3 will probably have a higher level of integration. Can you have a living council without an ME1 save? I sold my original copy and am wondering if I should buy another..

In Thane's personal mission his son is contracted to kill an anti-human Turian and he talks to his voters to why humanity is going to far, depending on what you chosen

Hmm..There's apparently some randomness involved, when starting a brand new Shepard, in ME2. I just recently started one, and in that play through, the Council is dead (seems typical), Ashley was the one who the Commander was telling to leave, aboard the Normandy, and I was never asked by Miranda about who I placed on the Council.

I've heard of other characters showing up, during the prologue (Normandy SR1's destruction), but so far, haven't seen them.

If you start the game with a save you will meet some familiar faces from ME1 later in the game. You also get some very nice bonuses to start with. You will not see this if you start a game without a save from ME1.

Yea I did not get the Anderson or Udina question either. It could depend on the background you chose and wether or not you chose "Sole Survivor", "War Hero" or "Ruthless"...

I was going to ask this same question. So saving the council has no effect on all the anti-human sentiment in the hubs? I thought that was a direct result of killing off the old council and taking over. A bit disappointing but I can see it being a monumental task to make broad changes based on that decision. And since most people killed the council...

Also have to realize that it would have been very hard to program two completely different versions of the society on the Citadel. Was a bit disapointed that the Citadel was simplified as it was...it was such a huge hub in the first game.

Oh, so nothing changes and aliens still hate humans even if you save the council? Well that makes me feel better for letting them die, makes much more sense for them to hate me that way.

no not really grey. I played me2 without importing a save and the game treats it as if you killed the council. there is no randomness involved. No import = dead council

While there's still anti-human sentiment regardless, there's less (and different reasons given for it) if you saved the Council.

The best example is the turian weapons merchant on Zakera 28, who's relatively friendly to you if you saved the Council, but a complete jerk if they died.
