I can't make my mind up with this game, in the first one i played it with it on the first time and then took it off for every other playthrough.

Besides the console cowboy small trolling
it's much more of a personal preferrence
atm I'm playing with it on, then I'll try with it off. and based on that I'll decide wether to keep it or not, like I did on ME1
Personally, I kinda like it..

Basically it makes the game look grainy like an old black and white movie.
It was the default option in Mass Effect 1. They wanted to the to look grittier less "perfect'.
I tend to use it on Renegade runs.

The Film Grain is used to help soften the edges of models and textures actually. It adds some pixel distortion. When you turn off the Film Grain it creates sharper edges and textures. The Film Grain also helps to soften the lighting, I personaly prefer the Film Grain ON, as it creates a nicer graphic experience.
What I miss is the Motuon Blur from ME1, wish it was in ME2.

I keep film grain off and I also miss motion blur from ME1

Motion Blur is in ME2 too, it's in the config utility. As for the Film Grain, it looks much better now than it did in the first game; much more subtle and a finer grain.

I preferred film grain in ME1, I really like it overall I think the textures would have looked too clean in ME without it.

WoW! I'm amazed! Film grain is also the default for ME2 as well!
It was so well done I did not even notice it...
And I like the new brightness control.. got mine on +3 now.

Film grain is an elegant adendum to the game imho. Makes the game more... well, more "filmy".

I turned film grain off in ME1 and I've experimented with it in ME2. I eventually decided to keep it on in ME2 and it hasn't distracted me like it would in the original game.

With ME1, I had to double-check to make sure I wasn't using an RF adapter for my 360, 'cause I had flashbacks of when my SNES would have the same effect from not being plugged in proper. Haven't at all used it in ME2 out of paranoia of another childhood return. lol Might give it a whirl later.

PC or 360? I'm talking 360, I haven't seen an option for Motion Blur.

For Mass Effect 1, I couldn't stand it. But for 2, I didn't even know it was there until my second playthrough and I was searching through the options. That's how you know it was a good job

I don't even remember a difference when I first turned it on (isn't the default in ME2 off?) but I was in Omega and the lighting and stuff is weird there...maybe it's harder to notice.

Oddly enough I am the opposite. In ME 2 anyway it doesn't seem to have much of an effect so I find it useless

OFF film grain is just there to hide imperfection's and I can live with imperfections plus with 16x AA I hardly have any jagged lines anyway film grain also makes screenshots look worse IMO

I always assumed the film grain was there to make it look like Battlestar Galactica...

I hated the motion blur in ME1.
