Yes in fact you can open the gate before you kill the Revenant and get the knights to help you with the battle. <sigh> wish I'd noticed that earlier.

I'm confused on how you died. I failed to pull (cast grease on the revenant just before he pulled my party in - asides from one character that had to face down the archers alone), then had a flame spell go off by accident - where I learned the amazing qualities of grease + fire, and I had my mage sitting next to the Revenant the entire time and I still won. Then again I think I went through about 8 potions during that fight so that might be a bad example of how to do it.
The Revenant appears to be incredible resistent to melee attacks. If you don't have a good damage dealing mage or some other means to inflict elemental damage, this battle can be extremely difficult.

So after a few hrs of effort, creative pulling, line of sight execution, potion spamming and a hint of luck I finall defeated the Revenant. No main char death and just one in party fallen. Oh look here's the gate. I wonder...

I wish I'd discovered that. I won that battle in about 4 tries but only because of an exploit: If you stay near where you came in and defeat the skeleton archers with missiles, the revenant and his crew won't attack until that fight is over.
