hahaha, glad to know im still not the only who got constant KO's by mobs and boss xD

I understand how OP feel, but just think this as a challenge and an escape from all those easy game. This game makes me feel "accomplished." At first my party would be wiped out at every mob fights, but eventually i learn the way to cope with it; and you can too. Just don't give up a great game because it's hard ^^!

But yea, like many other ppl's posts, if you wanna beat them, you gotta utilize everything that you have, don't "spare" or "save" like other games that you have been playing. If you don't give it all you had, you would die. For example, i had around 99 Less poultrice, but during this mob fight, I totally used half of it, and it was near boss fight too, so in the end im in a pinch fighting a boss; but i beat it after countless deaths xD

Save often, and don't give up ^^!

I think the guys here having no trouble on normal level are very very lucky guys. I played every Bioware game and i know by a hunch that a fight isnt possible. And this game is full of them :(((((

or you mean :

you cant strategically pull your ass out of an open tortilla.

.

I suck at strategy, but I make a mean quesadilla.

Really this game is hard? I must have missed something? I'll admit I wiped the first few times, then after panicking I started pausing and directing my attacks and controling my companions....

A bit of practice later and restarting the game over, I actually have not had one wipe yet. I think you just need to be used to how this plays. So I while I normally hate this phrase; learn to play indeed.

I play on normal mode.

There sure are a lot of jerks in this thread. Come on guys, he is having problems, aso lets try and be constructive and give advice rather than making stupid comments like 'L2P'.

(I can't give advice, unfortunately, since I haven't played it yet.)

No, he is whining, the game isn't HARD, you just have to think, if thinking isn't your forte find something else to do with your time.

This game is really frustrating, i come from BG, BG2, NWN and you just dont force after being level 3 to be attacked in your rear with no cleric or mage. I am at the tower of Ishal and i ahve two fighters and a dog. Already confusement spells and being attacked in the rear. This is just not possible on normal level. What went wrong bioware :'( is normal = nightmare? Please change this A.S.A.P.

Ya its so impossible that no one has completed that tower. Nope I am just imagining that I have done it both as a rogue and damage type mage.

Also why should they change the game when you could just place it on easy?

Make use of the AI tactics, spend some time getting them just the way you want them. Also, use your party to their strengths; send your rogues into the fray to get some backstabs, keep the enemies attacking your tank by using taunt and threaten, and don't focus your mages so much on damage - a few debuffs and stuns go a long way. I have had a great time on Normal difficulty, and the fights have been challenging but never impossible.

I've NEVER played a game on easy in my life. If a game in unplayable on NORMAL or the game forces you to have just the absolute perfect combination of party members and skills and one single inch outside that, you are toast, then the game developers made a bad product and do not deserve my attention. Shame on you Bioware, shame on you....

Who are you trying to convince? We also have the game and its anything but "unplayable",if you took a moment to step back and breath you would see you sound like a childish little boy who is ranting because he is getting killed in a video game, its simple either learn from your mistakes or dont play this majestic game, its your lose, not ours.

lol dude, if youre really having that much trouble with it, maybe the game isnt for you. cause truthfully it doesnt get hard until you hit the third of the cities to recruit from. and While I won't say that it isnt frustrating (seriously it is at times, AI deficiencies should not be part of the puzzles you have to solve), thats the name of the game dude. As a rule RPGs tend to be not for the short of temper, the slow of pace or the soft of mind, so maybe you should go back to playing halo.

I find it mildly amusing that when a game is too easy like Jade Empire people complained. Now, Bioware has a game that uses combat that actually requires tactics, and people complain it is too hard.

You have be smart building your team. You have to choose team members wisely. You have to choose what skills they should use and how you want them to attack. You need to pause and move people around.
The if/then scenarios in the tactics screen are AWESOME - take time to learn them...fight a battle multiple times to see what works for you!!!

If you want battles that are just run in and slaughter then play a different game. If you want battles where they slowly come to you so you can pick them off, play Mass Effect.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE that I hardly win a fight without losing one or two team members right now.
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE that when I die I get to play another team member and try and salvage the fight.
I lost my warrior, and had to be Morrigan, quickly turned into a spider and beat down the last 2 mobs!!!
FUUUUUUUUUN!!!!!!

Bioware created what could be the most diverse and tactic involved RPG to date.
Enjoy it!!!

I will admit at first I found it a little confusing, but hey, I just started...
With each fight I learn something new!!!

Kudos Bioware for making the normal mode challenging.

This game was to tough for me in the beginning on "normal" mode to. That's until I decided to really think about what I was doing and start to micromanage and use tactics.
You CAN'T just rush into battles in this game I noticed (wich I love).
It's about positioning and ofcourse wich companions you use.
Archers and mages stand back, in with the tank, flank with the rogue, protect the ranged ones (cause the enemies WILL go after them!).

After I started to really think about what I was doing I managed to go thru the tower (damn, can't remember it's name! Ish? Something) with only 4 "potions" and 2 deaths (NOT wipes, 2 chars died at the boss).
Yep, that actually made me proud! :D

you might just be picking the wrong battles too early in the game. you should consider doing other quests to level up, and then return later.

one could also use a range attack to pull manageable numbers of enemies away from larger groups, that's what I've been using and survival rate is pretty good, on hard difficulty no less

also, poultices are your friends as well as acid bombs: they often cut enemy hp by a quarter to half or sometimes even 3/4,

I'm playing nightmare on the 360 and I'm loving the challenge. I picked Mage as my starting origin. You really need top Micro Manage your team. Just like Baldurs Gate.

Every battle in this game counts and wolves can wipe you out early on if you are not careful.

I don't need to potion spam, although I have had to spell heal spam a bit.

By the gods, people. I'm playing hard here and I'm already thinking that this is way, way too easy. I've had two characters die twice, so far. Once right after getting to Ostagar and once at the very end of Ostagar.

Really. Anyone that dies "all the time! D:" on Normal bloody sucks. And I do really mean suckity suck suck. You don't have to be some "Oh, I'm so hardcore, I'm playing Nightmare like it's nothing" gamer superstar. I understand that not everyone is as proficient at a game as some others, but "all the time".. I mean.. yeash.

I Kind of found myself having exactly the same problem. I am lvl 9 as is my whole party besides the dog which is 8. And exactly on that back alley quest i get my ass haned to me like 1000 times. I mean i did one of the alleys but the other is litteraly impossible with my little crew. So i headed to another quest location to obtain money for better armor, and wolf pack on the way there slaughterd me in like 10 moves (10pauses my chars doing something barely killing 2 loves and after that they dieing like ****).

I feel like crap

Lol while I am loving the game, I understand what the OP is saying. When I played BG1 for the first time , I was dieing left and right.

The only problem with the opinion stated is that the game isn't too hard for most people. Meaning your doing something wrong. besides the bugs and stuff that is.

Wow... I hope this isn't a perfect cross-section of the community as a whole, cuz... wow... brutal

That being said, the game is a bit harder (more strategic) than some of the previous stuff (like KOTOR)

Tanks aren't useless, but they do require smart use.. and the rights skills and stat points... I made the mistake of allowing the game to Auto-level my party members, which would have worked well enough if I was playing on easy, but even I know from my playtime with KOTOR you have to tailor them a bit, otherwise they might not work the way you want to use them.

1) Tanks have to generate threat just like most MMOs, and you have to make sure your tank has the proper threat generating skills (and they have to be ON). According to the hint screens, this can also be helped by having heavier armor on your tank (unless I read the tip wrong).

2) Unless I'm wrong, high consitution is a must for your tank... got to have the high HPs to handle the constant beating from everyone.

3) If you don't have a healer, you'll need to make sure you have plenty of pots and add a Tactic to keep yourself healed (though I wish it would give you an option for "quickheal" since the game doesn't report a numerical amount of health restored on pots).

4) Make use of the "Hold Party" (though you'll need to do a bit more babysitting on that one, your guys won't chase down targets while it's on).

I kept getting wiped in the first room of the abandoned building, till I kept my caster at range from my melee and pulled guys out of the room a few at a time.... run in and the 7 guys would murder my whole party in an instant.

Now, if I can just get my archer to stop swithcing back to her melee weapons I'd be happy, I might just have to take them away from her.

Probably just rushing in willy nilly, they said something about not wanting to have to use potions..... Potions are a part of the strategy, which is why I freaking love herbalism!

This isn't an action RPG, it's just a very fluid strategy based RPG.

Sadly, this is just another BIOware trail of crumbs. The side quests are all on the same follow the maze maps. This is no Oblivion. This is yet another follow-the-story, stay-between-the-lines game, not a world like Oblivion, ES that allows the player to determine how the game plays out.

To be fair, this game seem BETTER than NVN has been, but I still find it FAR, FAR from the Baldur's Gate experience. When I play a game, I'm looking to be immersed, not to have to rexamine what tactics to do when I open the door and died LAST time, so how should I position my forces THIS time ... I have spent more time OUT of game in this game than I have IN it.

Another pet peeve. From all the locked containers I miss out on ... I feel like I should be playing a rogue in this game.

The game is hard without a doubt, and it can be distracting having to reload alot. Load times can be slow. I'd rather immerse myself in the story, yet... I like the challenge, and refuse to go down to easy.

I'm just not used to challenge. I'm so used to games being dumbed down for little kids. World of Warcraft is this way. It was never very hard to begin with, but they nerfed so much old world content, and the new stuff is easy. And newer rpg's such as kotor were easier than BG2.

But BG2 is easy compared to this game. BG2 only required learning a few spell combinations to bring down defenses. This game is tough. It would be easier with an autopause system like BG2, but that isn't possible. I like the challenge as I said, I'm just not used to it.

So you have 2 choices basically. Micromanage, or take the time to set up intelligent triggers for the tactics screen. It may seem time consuming, but you'll save that time by not micromanaging and/or dying/reloading. So learn the tactics screen, or be prepared to pause and shift characters frequently.

one last tip: pull. Don't just charge headstrong into a group of enemies. They'll waste you more often than not.
