I haven't met an cleric characters yet. I have Alistair, Morrigan, Sten and Leliana. I haven't been in a position to recruit anyone else.

there are no clerics in DA...only mages that choose to take a healing path.

;)

Or, to be more precise... the clerical and priestly characters in this game are not direct healers, as they are in the D&D universe and most other RPG universes. Healing here falls under the purview of mages, not clerics.

Eh, I'm playing through on easy because I'm unfamiliar with the tactical concepts. Due to that mental limitation, even easy is challenging. But that's just it - it's a challenge. I've played games where the difficulty goes from silly-easy to impossible in the blink of an eye, games that never presented a challenge, and others that were way too hard to even contemplate finishing. This game seems to have the perfect blend of old school difficulty and current gen mechanics. I would encourage would-be game quitters to try rolling a different class and playing through on easy first. You'll learn the game, and will be up to the challenge of harder settings in future play-through's.

Just my $.02

This game is really frustrating, i come from BG, BG2, NWN and you just dont force after being level 3 to be attacked in your rear with no cleric or mage. I am at the tower of Ishal and i ahve two fighters and a dog. Already confusement spells and being attacked in the rear. This is just not possible on normal level. What went wrong bioware :'( is normal = nightmare? Please change this A.S.A.P.

Huh? I've about 6 hours in, have been playing on normal and have only wiped out twice. First time being because I didn't see the two hurlocks sneaking behind me and the second because I placed an AoE spell in the wrong place :(

I'll add that I haven't played BG or NWN. It's not that hard.

The Game is tough but is playable on Normal. I got my ass handed to me by a little dragon for an hour, but I finally figured out how to keep him distracted enough widdle down his HP. The Dragons stash was worth all the trouble.

It does get frustrating when my fighters are only doing 10-15 damage and the monster can do 40-60 on a single attack.

I prefer it being tough. I found KotOR very easy even on the highest difficulty setting and with mods to boost it even more so this is great.

well, its NOT a hack & slay game like diablo or titan quest. if you run with your entire party into a mob you will die.

a few tips:

have 1 char run upfront to scout, rest of teh party should not follow. preferably use a shield toon with the "missle defense" sustainable skill up. If you encounter enemies, stop, pull them out to your party. position your bow/ magic toons behind the frontline fighter(s).

Use "flame weapons" from mage to add fire dmg to all party weapons

Use poinsons

Use potions

Use pause to give commandos.

Use terain to your advantage. eg wait for enemies to come through doors, when nuke, flame ... or trap before etc

I disabled tactics for all party members, bc the meelee toons did stupid things.

I play on PC normal and no party wipe yet. The ogre downed 3 party members, but Alastair killed him w/ a tiny bit health left. I did play BG1 and BG2 before ;-) ... multiple times.

Good luck

This game was obviously promoted too widespread. A lot of people have bought it thinking it would be an easy hack'n'slash when its actually very tactical like Baldurs Gate and NWN. This is what im expecting so i'm guessing i'll be happy.

Or change difficulty to the Easy setting "A.S.A.P." They have a difficulty setting so players can choose what difficulty is right for them. Use it.

I wish this thread had been made sooner, it has good advice. Unfortunately I had to figure out a lot of what people are saying on my own over the past 2 days. Dragon Age plays very differently from all of my other games and it definitly took bit of getting used to. It does help that the game gets easier once you level up a bit. Anyone feeling frustrated should just crank the difficulty down to easy for the hard parts till they get the hang of it.

This thread confuses me...I am by far the best person at games(actually, I'm pretty bad...I couldn't beat Star Wars: Empire at War even on easy...:()...and the only other RPGish type games I've played are KOTOR 1 and 2 and Mass Effect and Morrowind. Still, this game is NOT impossible to play. I'm playing on Normal...level 6 right now and I still haven't gotten a party wipe(I assume that's when everyone dies right? I don't know all this RPG terminology. :P). But I knew coming in combat would be difficult so I plan my fights out and pause quite a bit. I've had a few close battles, but I loved 'em for making me sweat!! There's definitely no way I'd be doing so well if I just charged in, that's for sure...but planning and being careful about your tactics = win.

Use the ballistas and the dog cages for those clustered fights, and you can lure enemies back there if you need extra help. For the other battles... you'll just need to refine your strategy. Change tactics, focus fire, retreat to different rooms, move out of archer's sights.. that's part of the fun of this game for me so far, and I'm playing on hardmode. If it's still too difficult for you then I suggest playing on easy until you get the hang of it.

I actually enjoy the degree of difficulty on normal (playing PC). I'm so tired of ez mode rpg's that I'm beating the hard mode while talking on my cell and typing on twitter. This game requires an attention to detail and a full use of strategy, and for once, I applaud that.

I've run into a few fights that took me countless mulligans to figure out an appropriate strat, but in the end, that made the victory all the sweeter.

I've been going through the game on 360 on it's hard difficulty, and it's been tough. I have to say I'm with the people who enjoy the strategy involved in surviving. I use a party with 2 rogues, one warrior, and the dog. I mostly find that being prepaired, (ie. having some health items and injury kits) and managing my partie's tactics works out. And really they always said it would be tough, to me rpgs are strategy games, although not all strategy games are rpgs. lol

In no way is this game hard, its quite easy. i haved played all the buldergates, nwn's, fallouts, kotors, jade empire, and many many other games like this. It is by far NOT the hardest game i've ever played. There is only one problem with the game, sometimes i like to try the evil side of the story, in this game you can be a ****** to people but there is no real evil because of the way the story is. That is the only downside i've noticed. Anytime you tell someone to screw off you still end up having to do it anyway...

I started on normal and got the achievement for not dieing in a origin story on my first go. But it was very close on some occasions. I do wonder what hard and nightmare will be like. And how you will be able to do them on consoles without the topdown view is beyond me; I needed it multiple times.

In the end; the same rule that applied for the baldur's gate/icewind dale games applies here: Pause is your best friend.

I've NEVER played a game on easy in my life. If a game in unplayable on NORMAL or the game forces you to have just the absolute perfect combination of party members and skills and one single inch outside that, you are toast, then the game developers made a bad product and do not deserve my attention. Shame on you Bioware, shame on you....

do you have somthing against easy.
