got Tali through the tubes, was panicking when she was saying she was burning up, ran into gunfire to press that button for her.
Garrus for squad leader both rounds, was the second time worried when he took a bullet to the chest but bounced back just fine.
Jacob was sent back to escort nothing wrong.
Samarra was the biotic in charge of barrier, i know she was getting weak but i was afraid that she'd fail at all, took Legion and Grunt with me during that part.
At the final leg, i took Legion and Tali with me against the final boss.
all survived.
can't wait to see ME3.

I'm starting to think it might be just a random thing or something.

Anyone pick Morinth over Samarra, and have her try the barrier?
Yep she did well, You're screwed if you have Miranda or Jacob do it. Even if you got Jack's loyalty and upgrades, chosing Miranda over her in their argument and not calming her down afterwards, will cause her to fail.

I got through it first time with whole team survived and like many others, it wasn't hard to make good choices. With a fully loyal team, my choices were Tali (tech) Garrus/Miranda (leader), Jack (shield) and Jacob (escort).
My guess is apart from the escort (maybe you just need a loyal squaddie), you need to choice the RIGHT loyal squaddie to have it work out. So far, apparently the right picks are:
Tech: Tali & Legion
Squadleader: Garrus, Jacob, Miranda
Shield: Jack, Samara (Morinth maybe?)

So what the hell decideds if they die or not. Some of you use the Geth Just like me as Tech and he lived. But legion died on me. I did his mission where I saved all his people too and not just kill them. He was loyal.

How did you resolve the Legion/Tali argument? You should also choose decent loyal squad leaders. So far Garrus and Miranda can do the job. Jacob should be able to handle it. The rest are horrible choices!

Thats easy with High Paragon Ability I got a Paragon Script choice for that part and made both of them happy.
The first team was lead by miranda. But I think she might of been disloyal because of the Jack fight. So maybe thats it. Huh.

I used Legion to go through the pipe and he stuck his head out when we were closing the doors in a cutscene and got it blown off. I got pissed, reloaded and used Tali to go through the pipe...
and she got her head blown off.
Rage quit.
How do you people keep everyone alive and talk about how easy it is? I made the obviously foolish assumption that a robot who's from a race known for its hacking ability could get a freaking computer-controlled door closed without pushing on it like a gorilla and then Tali, the super-tech lady, is just as dumb.
I can stomach losing team mates by making a stupid choice or by picking one over the other, whatever. What pisses me off is when I choose the two obvious technicians neither one of them can get the damn job done.
Zaheed, on the other hand, leads the other team like a champ. As I've come to expect. My "it's time to break things" team has always been my Adept + Zaheed + Grunt.
So what'm I doing wrong? Is it the combat abilities of the folks who're supposed to be providing covering fire for Shepard and Legion/Tali the massively incompetent technicians as they shove the doors shut (while, I might add, the amazingly strong Grunt stands behind them shooting at Collectors...)
I haven't played past that point. I can't think of any more technical people to try. I'm just not stupid enough to send the Salarian BIOLOGIST to go hack the door computers... at this point I may as well try. Jeeze.

Having said that, after coming here today and seeing everyone's posts, I can't figure out if I was a good leader, or just very very lucky. I'm leaning towards the latter.

It went pretty good overall, had one time that Tali was only half alife in those pipes.

Wait, are you saying you picked Zaheed as the alternate squadleader? Or did you pick someone else?
Assuming the tech you picked is loyal, you probably chose the WRONG squadleader? Known good choices (assuming they are loyal) are Garrus, Jacob and Miranda.

Now that could definitely be it. I figured Zaheed with his Alliance military background and his practicality and determination would be a great leader of a fire team. I actually thought I'd get to pick the whole fire team, and I'd planned on sending Zaheed, Grunt and Samara, but they just let me pick Zaheed.
You've got to be right though because everyone is loyal to me and my techs keep dying so the leader of the fire team must be the weakness. I'll try Garrus.

I see it sort of like the achievement counterpart to the Completionist achievement in ME1, in that you really just have to do the majority of the game.
