The disapointement is that the secret companion isn't 2H too so I could make a party of four 4H warriors.

Well you can still have four 2handed Warriors.  Warden - Alistair ( when he joins you he only 3 or 4 lvl so its not too late ) - Sten - Oghren.  And there is pretty good set and weapons for each of them :)

Ofc you should keep best items for your Warden after all your character is main. give Oghren a battle Axe and he will be fine , Sten has his own sword ( although it might not as great as other weapons still do for sometime ) and you can give Alistair a good Greatsword.

I personally never tried this setup but game has many great sets for plate wearers. Legion Set , juggernaut , Warden Commander(if you have Warden's Keep )  , Blood Dragon ( if you bought it ) , Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate ,
Cailan's Armor set ( Return of Ostagar )

And many good weapons for 2handed warriors. If you have enough Pots with you , you probably manage without healer, Only possible problem would be rogue with lock-picks. Other then that its pretty cool :)

that is why I play with the mod that does when I meet new companions they delevel to 0 and add all the XP to them so I can forge the way I want my characters to be as it is.

Not really an exploit, actually a pretty ok mod for it as it is... dragonnexus I think I got it at.. can't remember.

I use the respec mod, drink a potion and everything delevels to zero.

I use the respec mod as well... and my party tends to look a little like this after a bit (with a bit of help from another mod):

Morrigan - Blood Mage/Shapeshifter (Elemental/Entropy)
Wynne - Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer (Creation/Spirit)

Leliana - Assassin/Bard (Ranged/Rogue ...with sword and dagger for melee)
Zevran - Assassin/Duelist (Rogue/Two Weapons ...usually swords or sword/dagger)

Alistair - Champion/Templar (Sword and Shield ...usually sword or mace)
SecretGuy - Champion/Reaver (Sword and Shield ...usually sword or mace)
Oghren - Berserker/Reaver (Two Weapons ...usually axes or axe/mace)
Sten - Berserker/Champion (Two Handed ...usually greatsword or greataxe)

Shale - Champion/Templar or Berserker/Templar (and all over the place, depending on the party)
Dog - War Hound (overwhelm... end of story)

i think the combos above fit their character best and are not too shabby balance-wise (of course most specs don't even get a talent and are mostly there for story purposes)

The first characters up to Sten you get'em earlier on so you can build'em the way you like. i'm going to build Sten a dual wielder this time around. As for the party only having 2 mages and 2 rogues, I think that having more then 2 mages would be overkill. They are extremely powerfull in this game and it would make it very easy. having a party of 4 mages would be insane, They could add more rogues though.

The Oghren thread made me wonder, bioware, what was the reason behind making Oghren and Sten serve the SAME purpose?

Poor Sten gets screwed over cause he only has 1 specilization point... as opposed to Oggy who has 2 and starts out as a Beserker.

And poor Oggy gets screwed over cause by the time most people get him they don't need him and wave him off.

Add this too the fact Alistair, Dog, and Shale serve similar warrior like roles...

Wouldn't it have been pretty damn easy to make Oghren a strength based dual-wielding beserker? Whats more dwarfy then leaping into combat with two axes?

I've always been curious as to how this came about.

This isn't flaming or 'nothin, I just have always wondered about this...

I was disappointed when I found out Oghren wasn't a dual-wielding warrior.

I think dual weilding is best left for rogues who take more advantage of it with backstabs and daggers. although I'm playing with a DW warror myself, in retrospect I should have picked a 2H build

Rogues only use their main hand weapon when backstabbing, but considering dual weilding is your only mele choice with a rogue I do have to agree.
