There is a Statue on the second floor of the mage tower while your trying to save the Mages which if I enter act with it gives me 2 options either take the vial out of the statue or leav eit alone. Taking out the vial causea a Revenant to appear who seems to be a boss. Has anyone figure out how to beat this thing or how to get a 3rd option to appear that doesn't cause the fight to happen? That revenant kickes some serious butt on me when I try to fight it even with wynne healing.
Mage tower Revenant?!

I ran into it as well. I believe it is part of a higher level quest you are intended to do later on.

There are a couple of revenant threads from today.
Short version of how I did it: Tank goes after the revenant (with Shield Wall up), everyone else is far away plinking w/ arrows and spells; wynne heals.
On xbox 360 hard (similar to pc normal), the revenant cannot do enough damage to tax wynne's ability to heal my shield walled level 7 warrior. (Note: I have Wynne's tactics set to her default healer set up, which means she's buffing with regeneration, etc & healing.)

it took me like 10 tries to beat this guy, but the way torowa said is the way you have to go. heal the tank have the rouge take arrow shots and every now and then lay waste to him with a spell, if you are a mage.

I've run into a revenant in the Dalish forest messing with some gravestones. If it was cooperative and went after the tank that'd be one thing, but immediately after being summoned it uses the "pull" skill which sucks Wynne (always Wynne) out of the back of my group to right next to him, and then proceeds to make her dead.
I gave up after a few tries of not even getting close and figure I'll try it again later on.

We're talking about the elite boss revenant in the circle, at level 7?
Of course, problem is I have myself (tank), alistair (tank/2handers), Leliana (archery), and Wynne.
The Revenant has some incredible armour, and so the only person who can do any real damage is Wynne. Hard to have her heal and deal damage as well.

I didn't have too much trouble with that. I had my tank keep both Shield Wall and Threatening active, so with Threatening I only lost aggro once. (Sorry about the sudden dirtnap, Morrigan.) There's not much else a sword & shield warrior can do, as the shield stuns are not effective, so pour your stamina into your activations.
Also: I had my party hold position far away from the item, then walked the tank up and started the event. The time before that, I blundered into it with my entire party by my side, and had a wipe.

The event pulls my entire party into a bundle just to look at the tombstone regardless of any hold position commands I gave them. This particular revenant seems to have it out for Wynne, I even have Shale there who usually is quite good at pulling agro.
The spawn of the extra 6-8 mid level undead along with the revenant didn't entirely help the situation either.

Seriously, these encounters just beg for some high-level Turn Undead or the Daystar. Mmm...I love me some good old BG.
On a related note, does anyone know if Undead have any blood (I'd assume not), and what types of spells they resist well or poorly?

Undead are immune to cold (and nature i think?), though I'm not sure what (if any) they are weak against. The only revenant I had troulbe against was the mage tower (since i didn't know they were immune to cold).
With a decent tank (I used shale) and dedicated healer (go Wynne!) keeping the tank alive shouldn't be too hard (other party members can pot if you wanna conserve mana). I had 2 other mages so I was unable to use the occasional paralysis to disable (even if it did resist half the time) and vunerability hex + lightning bolt+ arcane bolt brought him down fairly quickly.

It took me close to a dozen tries to kill the mage tower revenant. I was using PC Rogue/Alistar/Morrigan/Wynne.
The main issues with fighting this particular monster is his immunity to cold damage (which unfortunately was Morrigan was most heavily focused on) and his mid-range aura that reduces ones attack and defense dramatically. Combined with his sweeping attacks (I believe it is called something else, but it hits 2 characters TWICE) he kept nearly killing my rogue and tank simultaneously, even though the rogue was at the opposite most arc of the tank, behind him.
Eventually, I put my rogue afar only using arrows, out of range of the aura (which did pathetic damage regardless considering he had no skills invested in archery). This created a new problem. Because of the aura, my tank could barely land any blows on the revenant, so the revenant would very quickly bullet for Morrigan (I actually positioned her in a way that the chairs would block his Pull ability on her; she would fly into the chairs, but not all the way to the boss). I tried kiting him around several times, but my warrior could never catch up so he would just end up being useless and eventually Morrigan would get caught and two shot.
My last successful attempt was barely by luck. I had Morrigan shapechange as soon as she became targetted (before the revenant could close interrupt her) in an effort to tank him. Note, the spider's web DOES work (I did not have bear form at this time). When he died, despite all my efforts from Wynne and party members, Morrigan was literally one blow from death. So I guess I lucked out.
The sad part is, he dropped nothing useful. Some lame steel armor, maybe a potion or so. Definitely not anything useful for what has been the hardest fight in the game for me so far. My characters were around levels 8 and 9 at this time.
Sorry for the long post. But I figure it might help others.

This is a quest chain (that I have not yet completed) prepare to encounter phylactery's in various places. The codex alludes to six bloody thumbprints, and I am expecting to find six total revenants.

I ended up starting a new rogue (Dual Wield) after playing with a tank for a long while when I first started.
Then, I chose the Circle first instead of uhh.. Redcliffe to go find Wynne. When I got to this Revenant I have to say.. I was pretty amazed. I'm playing PC/Hard and the only fights that have been a struggle are ones where the enemy has Fireball or other AoE's.. this being a 1 V 4 took me by surprise. I ended up changing my party a couple of times (Default was Alis/Morr/PC/Wynne). I ended up switching out Morrigan for Leliana. Yes, sketchy move being that I already knew that Morrigan was dealing upwards of 30-40 damage with Lightning and Vuln.Hex/Drain Combo. My tank held aggro just fine but I noticed something else..
Miss miss miss miss. So, what I did was stocked up on more potions and kept Wynne using one of her Heroic buffs for +Attack which gives roughly 6-8? Something in there.. either way.. it was enough that my characters started to hit a bit more and beyond that.. I wittled him down. I didn't use as many pots as I thought I would and I had about 15. He never once went for Wynne or Leliana (probably due to no damage) and I only had Threaten + Precise Strike on Alis.
Good fight.. but I didn't get crap as a reward so I'm going to run it again on my more powerful (main char/Tank) and see if there's a bigger difference in how the fight goes (level 8-9 compared to 6-7s) and see if I can't run it enough to see if he may drop anything special

I use 2 mages and 1tank to do the trick. You just need to tank him away from the grp so other member will not get sweep.I use 2 mage to do damage and keep Cone of cold on it.

Let wynne turn em to stone so when you do a critical strike on them they get smashed to peaces.
Quite simple really

I thought that cone/cold would do the same, that is smash him on a crit hit ... but after freezing the bastage 10+ times & wailing on him (including stone fist), no dice! On medium difficulty w/lev 7-8 chars, I've had a realllly difficult time with Alistair, Wynne, Morrigan and my dualwielding rogue in the party.
Wynne doesn't have a stone spell, other than stone fist - to which spell are you referring?

Orange tier mobs are immune to Shattering and yellow tier mobs have a fair chance to resist it. The trick is, as earlier posters have mentioned, to have a solid tank and keep everyone else out of reach. Mage staves deal quite alot of dmg to the Revenant as the bolts ignore armor. If you find that your staves shoot the wrong kind of element (cold/nature), equip one of the acolyte staves you found earlier in the tower as they deal physical dmg. As long as the tank can taunt the revenant you should be good.

fiiiinally got him ... used Alistair as tank, Morrigan castig repeated cold cones + vuln hex + drain life + lightning, wynne as healer for tank, and me as ineffectual rogue w/arrows ... but when the git finally ran thru the grease trap I'd set up, I had a chance to flame bomb him with a fire flask ... and ooooh, the perty lights!

I did this yesterday with:
MC: sword+board fighter (similar to Alistair)
Leliana (2-handed)
Morrigan (ice grasping a lot)
Wynne: healing
I knew these sort of fights from my first run thru, I was still surprised that I did not die and beat it the first time.

Don't forget you can always ignore it and come back later to do it. Against revenants in general I found that when he targets a specific player, placing forcefield on that player allows everyone else to get in free hits.

2x cone of cold, paralysis + glyph of paralysis... had to use some lyrium potions too, but eventually took him down with 3 mages + rogue party.
