Which is why i said it is one of the reasons she thinks they always wear them. Not THE reason. It does explain the opauqe faceplates.
Misread your comment. Reading it again, I'm not sure what I was thinking.

Their susceptible to sickness in alien environments, its mentioned a few times in ME1 and 2.
Yes. What was this in reference to? I am confused.
Me not reading the entire question heh. As far as the proper Qestion, because it just looks good or maybe some anti glare thing, but I think its style over substance with these Quarians.
You havent touched the codex have you? Or read the second book..

There is a lot to the Quarrians. It is pretty easy to find.

Look at how the Quarians live. They are desperate for any privacy, which is one of the reasons they almost never take off the suits.
I thought it was because the Quarians evolved to have no immune system after living on the sterile Flotilla, so they have no other choice, or else they'll die.
In terms of hidden faces, I'm not sure why they'd do it. They can make perfectly working and sterile face plates that are completely transparent, especially 175 years from now. My guess it really is just an artistic reason.

What i wrote was about the face plates. The armour is necessary, whether or not people can see your face while wearing it is optional. They decide to not be seen because they want the illusion of privacy.

More then likely its a artistic choice, or something they want to reveal in a future game.

Sure, on the part of the creators, there's probably a dozen artistic reasons. And the whole "save it for the finale" attitude, I get that.Motion Blue wrote...
Any number of reasons really, they could have a vulnerability to UV light for all we know.

Even if it is a privacy thing though, makes me wonder, how did it start? I mean, they haven't been in suits for 300 years. When they were driven off their planet, their immune systems were fine and so were their ships. It was only over time, maybe even over generations that their immune systems and their ships degraded to the point where wearing suits permanently was something that was necessary.
But imagine the day before that decision was made. Or the week before, or the month. No one was covering their faces then, and their living conditions (cramped, confined, tiny) were likely still the same.
It just seems like a bit of an oversight. Whenever we hear about quarians we hear about how we can never see their faces because they have to wear masks. But that's not true, they choose to wear opaque masks rather than transparent for whatever reason, and I just think it's a little unrealistic that not one person has ever thought of that in the Mass Effect universe. Again, I can see why the developers chose to make it that way, but in terms of the story, it just seems like a bit of a plothole. Sure we can theorise about UV vulnerabilities and microbes and whatnot, but there's nothing to support any of that. If that's the case, then it should have been made clear.

The degree of worship this character receives is sickening to me. All she is that I can see is Hips. Her fragile health, lack of a face, and overall 'spunkiness' really reinforce an antiquated idea of feminine ideals. Tali, the faceless creature with Monster Hips, needs Shepard's big strong shoulder to lean on, because she's a delicate flower. Gag.
Even Ashley has more depth. Worst. Character. Ever.
