As odd as this may sound, the "loading" screen is just a prerendered .bik movie in your BioGame>Movies folder. Because of this, the game only loads when the .bik movie is finished playing, not when the game is actually loaded.
To fix this, simply go to your MassEffect2>BioGame>Movies folder, rename "load_f01" to "load_f01-bak", then copy "load_f99" and rename "load_f99 - Copy" to "load_f01". This should reduce your load time to about 3 seconds. Don't worry about the game loading improperly, because it won't thanks to BioWare making use of Unreal Engine 3's streaming feature ( loading the levels on the fly ).
Improving your load times

I went ahead and compiled a set of replacement load screens for those of you who are interested. Please remember to back up your original load_fxx files before replacing them in case there's ever a reason you wish to rollback.

Indeed, some of the transition screens for the Normandy don't take long at all. But there are plenty of other instances where you're sitting back in your chair and twiddling your thumbs, waiting longer than you have to.
Some people just don't care about watching loading screens. Cudos to BioWare for making them innovative enough to give a player an idea as to how the transition from area A to area B works, but players that have already played through the game 2 or 3 times, they would probably just skip the loading screens if possible. These files allow the player to do just that.

In my opinion that screen is a clever idea to hide the initial stuttering that could appear after loading an area on a weaker pc system.

Why couldn't they just load the environment when its loaded instead of playing through the rest of the animation, or give the player an in game option to set their preferences. The loading time screen waits add up.

i wished i had this kind of problem but my load times are about 1 minute+ even on the ship from deck to deck. until now (when i read that actually load times should have improved from me1 to me2) i thought "very nice game, but the load times suck". i'm not alone, but maybe its just a fragmentation issue.
(pc should be up to the task, with a 3ghz core2duo, geforce gts 250, wd raptor hd - windows vista sp1 32)

Changing the processor affinity does nothing for me. Most .bik files still need a full playback before allowing me into the game.

I have been using your fix for about 2 weeks. Its great! Especially on Hardcore and Insanity where i die a lot.
However, there is a bug at the part where Shepard and his crew uses the shuttle during the installation of the IFF and they get attacked by collectors on their ship. I guess it hangs because it requires the flash mov to initiate the event.
The screen also goes black after accessing the Galaxy map. The game does not hang, however, but whenever Joker informs that the IFF is ready the screen just goes black.
I had to replace the files with the original. Luckily I backed up.
Suggestion: Could you identify the files that are required for this event and dont replace them? I for one do not know anything about these files so I'd rather not mess with them.
Other than that, great work Lavans6879!
