I want some kind of commerce system to come back. There is no reason to revisit any store if I have bought out there stock, no new items, no kind of trade at all. Disappointing. We can clearly mine more then we need, so allow us to sell some of it.
So I guess that means I would like an inventory system back, but maybe find a happy balance. I do understand why we have the current system and I think people forget that they tended to use the best of there stuff in ME1. I like that in ME2 we can assume Shepard had the best armour to begin with, why get anything else. Allowing me to outfit my team would be nice even though I like the system were Armour only gives boosts and is irrelevant, but the aesthetic choice is really what its all about. In fact make the inventory system for each character the same as what you have for Shepard in ME2, A standard good armour that allows subtle alterations, different helmets and attachments. That would be cool.

Space battles/encounters; The Normandy is not really a warship, but what would be interesting is a few Fighter missions that lead into a boarding mission or retrieval/capture. Take a squad of three fighters against a rogue freighter, a space station or ground base. Fight your way in then land, thus the normal mission begins. In the flight mode you fly your ship and still command the other 2 squad mates to attack targets, use special attacks or move to a certain point. Or just have a three seater fighter/shuttle. MAKO in space.

I wish they wouldve keep the weapon customizations w/ youre teammates like in the first ME.

I don't like how you have to buy new armor along the way instead of simply getting a new level up and getting even better armor.

thats all i got!

I dont get why people complain about the lack of weapons and armour. In ME1 they were all the same, just reskinned, at least in ME2 they're different, burstfire, semi auto snipers, powerful but slow guns etc.

The games great, hope it carries on with ME3, but I do have afew gripes with it, ill post em tommorow tho, its early hours here.

Less combat missions

More RPG elements

more side-quests

more character development

more gore/sex/nudity

Good economic system (shops, purchases, credits, store items, upgrades, etc.)

Looting system that gives the player more weapons than just 4!

More gameplay in the citadel or Nos Astra (or any other sprawling sci-fi metropolis)

More ****s (Miranda/Morinth)

More epic

HUGER CLIMAX, MORE MAJOR PLOT TWISTS, EPIC SETTINGS AND ENVIRONMENTS, LARGER VARIATION BETWEEN CHARACTER PERSONALITIES, EPIC CHOICES!

Need more character-creation options. And most importantly: more realistic (in sense of proportions) character looks. Some of NPC's look so real, but all the features given to you when you create your own character are dull.

How come no one mentioned this...

How about being able to edit your ME2 character's face in ME3. Not having this option in ME2 meant either keep the exact same looking character despite all they'd been through, or try and recreate it from scratch. I'd have liked to have been able to make some small changes to add to the experience of having a rebuilt character some 2 years after i'd last seen him.

With how many crazies on this forum spouting insanity at posts like this I'm surprised how well this is going over.

OP sums it up well, more RPG, less GoW.

I just want to say first that ME2 is a fantastic game, it made me fall in love with the characters. The character design and development is incredible. The improved graphics are awesome, and the combat is fun. It's one of the best game's I've ever played, up there with the first mass effect.

My suggestions for ME3-

1) It has to be as big or bigger than ME1 and 2 combined....some people are saying 3 disks. I'm saying like 4 or 5, seriously. For the conclusion to this excellent series, the last installment needs to be the most massive, epic, game EVER. I mean Bioware should really go all out.

2) Put the RPG back in the game. This is a biggie for me, being able to fiddle with your characters in a rpg makes one feel connected to them in that you can alter how they perform. And also have fun experimenting with different combinations of skills/weapons/armor etc. It seems for ME2 the devs decided to streamline all the typical rpg elements, from lvling(no xp per kill), ammo(although running out of ammo and having to actually use your full arsenal is a good design choice in my opinion), weapons/armor/biotics with the lack of customization and number of choices, all the way down to mission design, exploration and city design(with linearity). This isn't a bad thing, I think it probably allows more focus in differing areas. Like for instance all of the environments in ME2 are different. No rehashed environs like the first game.

Now my suggestion for ME3 is to add some customization to armor/weapons etc without going quite as deep into menu's as the first game. In affect striking a balance between the first two games. For instance maybe at one of the weapons lockers, when you change a loadout you have different attachments for weapons that you need to choose between for each member. And instead of being able to just pick different armor pieces for Shephard, you have to pick for your whole squad. Same with level design, maybe allowing more exploration without going so far as roaming around a barren land in a mako like the first game, but keeping the awesome environs from the 2nd game. Opening up the main cities more and making them less "tunnel-y" would help towards immersing us in the game more as well.

3) Bring back most of the squad members from the first 2 games. With maybe 1 or 2 new characters, if any at all. Its fun to have new characters, but the squadmates from the first 2 games are living breathing people to us by now.

4) More, more, more, backstory for characters, can never have enough development for these awesome characters. It seemed to me there was less interaction between shephard and the squad on the normandy in the 2nd game, but maybe I'm wrong. I loved the loyalty missions. Adding more character interaction in the field i.e. dragon age would be sweet.

5) To me combat in ME2 is spot on, adding more weapons/armor/biotics(see 2.) will only make it even better. Maybe adding some "surprise" enemy encounters would be cool, most of the combat in ME2 are setpieces.

6) Romance - An afterthought really in ME2. These are M rated games, don't be afraid to get mature on us!!!

With all said, I'm going to buy ME3 regardless, and I know Bioware won't dissapoint. I have faith in them as one of the best developers in the biz. Even if they don't change much at all I think ME3 will be great.

So many people seem to dislike that Mass Effect 2 is "RPG lite". From the crictics, to the gamers. However, Mass Effect wasn't ever RPG heavy. It was more of a balance of 3rd person action/shooter with RPG narrative, characters, level system, and customization. Customization however, has taken a back seat in Mass Effect 2. The cluttered inventory system from Mass Effect 1 has been scratched altogether in the sequel. My suggestion? Allow weapon customization, and more armor customization. In Mass Effect 1, guns had slots for upgrades to be equipped just as the armor did. In Mass Effect 3 we should have 1 upgrade slot for all guns, and armor.

To further the customization, we should have more options in changing our "Captains Cabin". With Mass Effect 2, we are able to buy fish, model ships, and a space hamster for our Captains Cabin.  In Mass Effect 3, it should take it a step forward by being able to buy art, furniture, plants, lava lamps etc etc. Which would add more customization, and thererfor adding a little bit more of RPG elements. I honestly have not seen a single person suggest this idea. I take full credit in it Posted Image

Back to the subject of weapons and armor; there needs to be more of them. Not to the extreme like Mass Effect 1 where there was Colossus V, Colossus IX, Colossus X etc etc. Instead there needs to be a balance. I don't think Mass Effect 3 should have the looting system, in part because that might slow the pace of the game down a bit. I was very surprised that we cannot buy ANY guns from ANY shops in Mass Effect 2. None whatsoever.

I would also like to see more in squad interactions (like quite a few other people on the forum). I got that recipe for the cook (Garner), but I can't eat the wonderful new food with any of my squad members?  I want to hear more comments between my squad members. Thats the only thing that was good about the elevator rides in Mass Effect 1.

Onto side missions. The environments are more varied on side planets in ME2 than in ME1, but there is nothing Shepard or you're squadmates say about the side quests. In Mass Effect 1, you and you're squadmates would make a few comments about a few sidequests. ME3 needs more dialogue with side quests.

In Mass Effect 2, were only allowed to gain exp until after we beat a mission. We should at least be able to gain exp for defeating Heavy Mechs, Scions, etc.

Here's what I would like to see in ME3: (reiterating points others have made, I'm sure)

(1) Combine the "awe" of the first game (e.g. the wide open spaces, the scope of the citadel) with the greater focus of the second game (e.g. less generic side missions).  In ME1 I really did feel like I was exploring a galaxy, albeit one that was full of the same bunkers.  In ME2 I loved that the side missions and loyalty missions had substantial variety, but I felt overall that the cities - Citadel, Ilium, Omega, were fairly claustrophobic and similar in aesthetic (low ceilings, similar architecture, although the doors looked different, I guess?).

(2) More variety in combat.  I'm bad at first person shooters, so I appreciated that the cover approach made things a little easier, but combat-wise I felt like almost every level was exactly the same, except for the levels with the husks.  The cover-based system made things feel artificial - i.e. you'd go into a room and there would be carefully arranged boxes/ridges to hide behind, so you knew a fight was coming up.  This was especially apparent on the collector ship (oh there just happen to be these ridges in this room, I wonder what's going to happen next...).  Even though the combat in ME1 wasn't as much fun, it seemed like you were doing your fighting in a real setting, rather than an artificially constructed one.

(3) Keep the squadmates from ME2, bring back the squadmates from ME1, and introduce only the minimum  number of new ones for people who happened to kill off everyone they
could in the first two games.  I'm assuming this is what the developers have planned from the beginning, given the focus on the squad in ME2.  If not, it seems like a bizarre approach to take.  In ME2, I found the cameos of the ME1 characters to be extremely underwhelming, so I would hate to see certain squadmates reduced to cameos in ME3.

(4) More dialogue between the characters.  One of my favorite parts of ME2 was the chats you could have with Mordin.  However, when you talked with some of the other characters, there was a lot of "come back later, I'm doing stuff" (Garrus being a prime example).  There was a lot of great interpersonal dialogue in ME2, I'd like to see more of it in ME3.

  • - Ability to run faster in town/ship
  • - Respec training for teammates
  • - Ability to change costume colors for teammates like you can customize your own armor
  • - Option to remove helmets during town/dialogue. Keep the helmets on for when Shepard is engaged in combat zone dialogue (i.e. when Shepard first meets Jacob, if he has a helmet, it would show versus when hes in the Citadel, talking to merchants, helmet is off)
  • - Lighter controls or option to turn up sensitivity [more]
  • - Improved cover system. Sometimes the transitions are broken. There have been times where I would be in cover and after an action I'm suddenly just standing out in the open. Needs tweaking.
  • - Additional companion quests (at least 1.5/2 per teammate)
  • - Party banter
  • - Call of Duty style enemy spawning. In CoD, enemies continue to come at you UNLESS the hero moves forward past a certain soft-checkpoint. Right now, you can just sit in cover endlessly and take popshots until all enemies on screen are dead and you move on. Theres no sense of urgency barring the occasional timed sequence (i.e. must escape base in X amt of time)

KEEP the space hamster. He is sheer awesome. The fish tank and models were great. I wouldn't mind a couple of different schemes to decorate the room in. One scheme for each casual outfit?

Comments between squad members and comments from the background crew. The banter between them really made it more immersive. One of the highlights I had of visiting engineering was Donnelly & Gabby. The comments in the Crew's Quarters were a great touch. More of this please.

Nudity. The one thing I found most jarring is clothed love scenes. Mass Effect 1's treatment of them was spot on.

Less clearly defined beginning and end of missions. While they were great for giving us a rundown of what happened

Exactly this :)  Especially when it comes to the squad member interaction.  We know how every NPC feels about Shepard.  We know how a few of them feel about each other (Miranda and Jack, Tali and Legion).  But we have no idea about the other interactions.  This can be solved with something as simple as ambient dialogue like in Dragon Age--they even used a little bit of ambient between Garrus and Tali for giggles in ME2, so clearly it's not that difficult to implement.

I do feel like after the mess that was the inventory system of ME1 and the sometimes confusing level-up system, BioWare swung just a little too far the other way in ME2.  In terms of fewer headaches for me, I'd rather have a system closer to ME2 than ME1, but yes, a bit more balance would be great.

the ability to buy a mining station for 100k credits and upgrade its output and how much it can hold before you have to come get it it would be a better type of this then scanning plants and no keep the scan so you can still get resources before you buy the mining station you could get i dont know as a start 10 of each resource per min at start and max upgrade you get 100 per min what do you think

Lots of very interesting things being mentioned in this thread and worthy of being incoporated into the ME3 suggestion box. I agree with most of what is being said though not necessarily to the extremes some suggestions are going. So here are some things that should be added/changed (either in ME3 or DLC if at possiblle).

 1. More research options:  While this is a nice addition it did have some oddities in what was missed. Let us be able to research the following:

 (a) Refill Medigel - can put something like a medigel station into the Med Bay
 (B) Build our own Heavy Weapons Power cells (buy/research install the equipment and then use resources to restock) - can add something in the Armoury area

Odd that these do not restock automatically but adding them as research is a good way to bring them in and could be DLC.

 2. More 'personal' items and/or decorative items for you, your crew and squadmembers.

 (a) The captain's bathroom really should have had some personal items in there - shaver, toothbrush and toothpaste  and/or makeup items if you have a femshep.
 (B) It was great being able to add some items to the captains cabin but there were areas in the ship that are 'common' and could have done with some sprucing up to improve crew moral. Perhaps pictures for the crew quarters.  Or 'trophies' of some sort for the observation lounge.
© And one other item - the ship definetly needs a bar - should be able to use the port observation area for that. I could see it being added as DLC and being bought. Would also allow for extra items in stores such as a much larger variety of liquor.

3. While the Normandy was better at feeling alive and not as sterile as it was in ME1 a lot of things could have been done. For example Shepard could have called crew members to his cabin apart from the LI or Kelly - he does have an 'office' area for that. Dont see why there couldnt have been a cutscene where say Tali/Garrus/Joker/Doctor Chakwas celebrated something in that cabin (a birthday or an anniversary of some sort that might be special to the ME1 crew). Or perhaps having a 'poker' night (something from Star Trek and kind of half done with the engineers) just to relax or improve crew morale. The cabin itself took up a lot of space but was almost as underutilized as it was in ME1.

4. While we were shown some more hubs the size of those hubs really felt more cramped than what we had in ME1. As someone else has said they felt more like alleys and not wide open spaces (Illium) or as epic as The Citadel was in ME1 (the new Citadel/Omega). If things had been more spread out rather than squashed in so close a better atmosphere would have been created.

5. Combat. This is much better than ME1 but still was very flaky despite all the attention lavished on it.
(i) Teammate AI for example could have teammates running back 300 or 400 meters for cover (see the mineral gathering mission with the mech for the worst example of this).
(ii) Bad cover that would not allow you to fire out of it even when you had clear shots because of the way it was constructed (I would say that 40% of my deaths in game were due to overall bad cover mechanics).
(iii) While supposedly a more tactical game still felt very untactical once you learnt the basic attack patterns of the various enemies so much so that even if your teammates dropped you could still beat the horde by taking advantage of their poor AI and get them stopped on crates or corners.

Other things I have are all pretty much personal preference items and not so much general problems/issues that need to be looked at and so will go into other topics.

- Customizable Armor for squad mates (or at least regular armor like in ME1)

- Better box-art than ME2's

- Visit Earth

- Option to pick what you did in ME1 and ME2 if you don't have a save

- More profanity

- More Loot

- Option to toggle off helmets

- Replace the loading screens with some funny commercials/trailers (Blasto!)

- Full description of what Shepard is going to say:
This is my biggest complaint about Mass Effect. Half the time what I chose and what Shepard actually said was completely different. I had to replay each dialogue a dozen times. Make it something like right click the dialogue option and make a box come out that says the exact words Shepard is going to say. For the interrupt, simply add a minor explanation of what Shepard is going to do next to the interrupt button.
Just make it as an option for people who like it, don't remove the old way
