Just wondering.. cause mass effect looks like it might have been made with a more male type of player in mind,
Hence the question.  Im a male player btw.

Actually I'm surprised even when I see a female gamer. Not that I judge them though guess it's the stereotypical thing of Male's playing the computer games, hard to wrap my head around a female might just be enjoying it as well

I'm here, though the game is still pretty far from my traditional RPG tastes.

I also feel the female LIs were all unappealing, which is a big disappointment.

I don't understand why female gamers are considered this mythical thing, being that I am one (heck, my mom is one), and I see them on forums all the time. A Nielsen study said that two-thirds of online gamers are female. That's kind of significant.

The dying lizard, metallic scarred bird, bland human, and annoying woman didn't appeal to you?

yes but then 2/3rds of them likely playing Sims Online and other puzzle games than FPS etc. It's just a fact of life, Men are from Mars etc. Of course there are exceptions to the rule overall but hey, that's always a good thing :)

I exist! ^__^ I just beat it last night and I was very satisfied...But now I want ME3...

*sighs*

I generally love Bioware games because you actually get to be a female. And not have to be some random ugly guy and romance the girl of your dreams. Which gets really old after the milionth time. :D

And I actually like shooters, so it works for me. Now to wait for Bioshock 2!

It's a testosterone thing. Men expect that games that are based on skill and agression to be male-dominated (and I would agree that they are). While a majority of online gamers may be female, I would wager that tends towards the mmos, while a majority of online fps play is probably dominated by males.

Demographically, video games tend towards the male 18-35 range. This is expanding, certainly, but still the predominant audience.

I am a female gamer from back in the day. I sampled all the romances, they were okay, but I only sampled them to see them. I like Garrus, but honestly the thought of doing him is repellant, as is Thane, I wasn't attracted to Jacob more than Kaidan so for my "real" game I stayed true.

I want Joker, but that isn't going to happen. I pick funny guys over broody emotional types all the time. I was disappointed with the romances, but then I didn't like the guy's choices too much more - although they got better love scenes.

At this day and age, Female Gamers are not these kind of mythical creatures that warrant threads like these. :D

There are actually quite many who play now that computers have become so common in the households.

It was different in the early 90's.

Well, according to Wikipedia 40% of -all- gamers are girls, not just online ones, but statistics on wikipedia can't really be taken as gospel. At the least, we gals are far more significant than we're sometimes made out to be.

I actually don't like MMOs very much, grinding is boring. I like games with a story. The gender option was definitely one of the things that drew me to BioWare. Nice to see you have the option of being a woman, and said woman isn't wearing a string bikini to battle.

There are plenty of female gamers out there. I've been playing video games with my brother since I was 6 (streets of rage days, woo!) and never plan to stop. A good RPG is something I thrive off of and Bioware has managed to take the top spot in my heart - I used to be a huge Final Fantasy fan, but nothing beats having the option to romance aliens.

My mom has been watching me play ME2 with great enthusiasm. She even expressed an interest in playing it herself, although I'm not sure there's a difficulty level that's easy enough, even for her. But the very fact she even asked about it was pretty awesome.

Amen to that.

Female. And I love Mass Effect. Started with a Femshep, but now only really play the default MaleShep.

I find the game caters to players of both sexes just great. Female Shepard is perfect and Jennifer Hale's portrayal of her is both strong and still feminine. She's the ultimate female game character I think and a lot of real women dig her. Having the option to play as a female was what initially attracted me to the game actually.

And there are a lot of real female gamers out here! And we are growing in numbers. Mwahahahahaaa!

:P hehe

I must be in a minority for thinking ME2 had the best LI options for girls of any previous offering. I'd resigned myself to having one male option and hoping he was decent before DA came out, and even then thought that was a fluke. Of course, I always wanted to romance Garrus in the first one (hated Kaidan), so that could have something to do with it. I think Thane is kind of gross-looking, but I might consider trying the romance for the emotional angle, which is way more important to me than abs. Speaking of abs, Jacob is way too Kaidan-ey, the generic soldier. Boring.

One thing that bugs me about this issue is companies that think the way to market to female gamers is a bubblegum pink Nintendo DS and games about bunnies. Gaaaah, ::smash::

Really? Last I heard we were sitting at around 40% but it might have changed and/or been looking for different types of gamers. Either way, still significant. Anyway, I'm another female ME fan.

But to the OP, is it the shooter aspects you think are more geared towards men? Or maybe the marketing?

The marketing definately is with Miranda's boobs all over the place, and she was actually the least interesting new female LI for the guys.

I think guys just think girls don't like guns.

I think the li for a female player is a bit slim..I mean.. If i were a woman i would want to romance someone in this game that at least good looking, but what do i know.

In that case, I'm in the minority too. I loved the options we got - thought it was great, but like you, I wanted Garrus the first time around too and I wasn't impressed with Kaiden either.

Oh yes, and my loathing of pink borders on absolute revolt against the color in general, probably because people feel the need to associate it with being female..bleh. I'm all for breast cancer awareness...but pink? Why?!

Oh definitely the marketing was geared towards men. ManShep smacking people across the face and Miranda's boobs were about the only things you saw. Has there ever been a BioWare game where the canon PC was the female option?
