How many female mass effect players out there?

I'm a female gamer, die hard fan of ME. I got it as soon as it debuted and I love scifi books as well. I'm a life long fan of science fiction. This game is perfection for me. It has science fiction, fighting, female lead ability and customization, great plot plus LI.
I also play COD4, COD4MW2, Bioshock, Halo, used to play Warhammer Online as well as EVE.
ME is my all time favorite game however.

I almost didn't even want to talk to Jacob because Shepard always sounded so flirtatious with that line even though that wasn't my intention.
So true! It's probably the most cringe inducing line in the game for me.

Surely, if it weren't for the immersive ME universe, the artistry, Jennifer Hale's voice acting, and FemShep, I wouldn't have gotten far in the first installment. Having my roots in the horror genre (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc.) offered me a neutral perspective to things, but it was definitely cool to play a female leader who is actually competent.

Don't think many real females play as the maleshep, Mostly they play the femshep, cause of the li.
I rarely play games more than once, so that was my main reason for not completing MaleShep's story. His voice acting also seemed duller than FemShep's and that dampered the experience.
Overall, I usually play female characters when given the choice, unless I find the male's plotline, persona or skills more compelling. Romance isn't my primary motivation for playing a video game, because I can get the same thing from something much quicker like a movie or novel. Good story-telling, on the other hand, will immediately affect my gaming choices. I might finish a MaleShep this time around because I hear the paragon SuZe romance involves alot of character development.
But speaking of LIs, I will make an exception for Garrus Vakarian. I've always wanted to date that Turian whether I'm femShep or maleShep. Then, of course, observe the priceless expressions of the Terra Firma's leaders afterwards.

She delivers lines so well better than Meer (sorry). I watch my hubby play his game, and I hear the same words, but it doesn't have the same emphasis at all.... but odd note, the CE guide has alot more pics of femShep than cannon Shep in them for the screen shots, and even uses Kaidan as the default when discussing Horizon which was surprising since I didn't see a pic of default femShep until the day before the game went out.
That's because the guide was written by a woman who played a female character.

LOL same here, agreed completely, I barely talked to him. It's easy to accidentally flirt it seems. [smilie]../../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

I agree too. Every time I go talk to Jacob, I thought Shepard was hitting on him. Very disturbing when you absolutely do not want her to romance him, nor any of the new LIs...

I think the same goes for MaleShep, it appears. His lines are undeniabily flirty when speaking with Miranada.

Female gamer who mostly plays as a male player character because me and my bro agreed to switch character genders for BioWare games, except for ME

Can't say I'm thrilled about the romances this time around- Jacob bores me and romancing the aliens is a bit strange to me. However, I do love Garrus and Thane's personalities, so I'll be romancing them after I get my 'loyal' games done for Kaidan. I will never try out Jacob, and as others have said, I cringe everytime I talk to him and hear that FemShep conversation opener. He just comes across flat to me for some reason or other.

It is weird how that line is delivered, but don't worry about accidentally romancing him. I talked to him as much as I could until it got to the point where I could ask if he was single. I didn't pick it and then we basically became good friends. He even did this random secret handshake thing when I talked to him and talked about hanging out at the Citadel or something like I was his best bro, lol.

As soon as I learned that Tali was romanceable, but only to Male-Shep, I started a new run-through of ME1, taking no love-interests, JUST so I could make Tali ma girl.
I don't really LIKE playing the opposite gender, but meh... what's a girl to do.

I've been a die hard BioWare fan since around the time Baldur's Gate came out.
ME1, I played a FemShep, I didn't have any LI. I didn't like Kaidan, he reminded me of Neo from the Matrix... and Liara was just boring >_>
As for ME2, my first playthough was a FemShep, but I'm now playing through as a Male Shep just for the hell of it...

I don't think I'll ever understand the fascination with girl gamers. Last time I checked they made up around 40% of the gaming community (which still leaves a 60% male majority but you get my point).
Actually, I only get bug eyed reactions from 10-13 year old boys when they realize I'm a gamer. Guys my own age are (usually) much more mature and don't think it's a big deal.

Playing all kinds of games, ME, WoW, CoD, and looking forward to the new Alien vs Predator game.
But yeah as someone said, female players aren't *that* rare, at least not where I am from. So reading how some react to female gamers are funny... we're not that different.

I have to say that I did not like Jennifer Hale as Bastilla Shan. Bastilla drove me crazy. I love her as femShep, though. She seems to be 100% more real than poor Mark Meer. It does irk me, though, that flirty voice femShep uses with Jacob, but I might suck it up just for the bro handshake. That is hilarious! I don't want to romance him, though. His hips are too narrow and they freak me out. I'd rather be with an alien.
I've loved Garrus since the first one, but I wouldn't say I want my Shep to jump him. I'm staying loyal to Kaiden for this run-through because I

Right. I don't understand why companies don't do some research and try to figure out what it is female gamers want rather than going to stereotypes or doing blanket research to figure out what women in general enjoy (which in and of itself is a stereotype), even if they aren't the type of women who enjoy video games. It's that kind of advertising that gave us those horribly patronizing commercials with America Ferrera and Carrie Underwood playing Nintendogs and how that's somehow what the female gaming experience is.Star58 wrote...
[I don't understand why women are usually overlooked as a viable market segment in gaming. There are lots of market stats showing that a fairly significant number of women plan (statistic vary but the range seems to be 40-45% of women play videogames and not just Sims.) I've been playing for years and I know a number of female gamers. We play MMORPG, RPGs and some action games (Halo).
I played ME1 (both xbox and pc) and am now in the middle of ME 2.
You have to admit that BioWare is definitely ahead of the game in terms of catering to its female audience. Despite the advertising, I felt -much- better about ME2 than I did about ME1. FemShep seems to have evolved a bit, seems more like a woman soldier than a female VA reading lines meant for the 'canon' ManShep.
Yeah, I do agree that Bioware is ahead of the game and always has been in regards to story and character development for both male and female characters. And I did notice that in the Prima walkthrough, although the cover was of MaleShep, pretty much all the screenshots and text were from the FemShep perspective. I'm also aware of how much more available Bioware's staff (from the top down) are to their fans. There aren't too many boards where, for example, a writer will make a regular appearance to talk about storylines or character development and I believe there are opportunities to provide input/influence. Still, it seems that over the last 10 years, their marketing (like other games) has focused more and more heavily on the male characters or focusing on male characters (Aribeth's armor comes to mind). So, it's not even Bioware specifically. I'd just like to see the more research on women gamers and having that impact games.
