Heavy Barrier + Heavy Charge (Time Dilation + 100 % to Shields, more shieldbonus than the AREA charge
Researched all the Shotgun Upgrades for more OOMPH and Impact
With that said, i am having an EASY time on Veteran, but things are apparently different on Insane.
You will have to ask an Insane Vanguard for tips on Insane!

Warp Ammo is also a viable choice.
If you want to go Heavy or AE is all up to you, i have only tried the Heavy Charge, which was my plan from the start.

Isn't the Claymore Shotgun the Krogan one? I thought only Grunt could equip it.

Isn't the Claymore Shotgun the Krogan one? I thought only Grunt could equip it.
A wee bit spoilerish... but no, you can use it as well.
