I'm posting up this to see if this just me or if its widespread. It has happened a few times that when I open the inventory the game freezes and crashes. Is just me?

This has also happened to me on more then a few times. I can open the character window or inventory window and the game just dumps me back into window in 5 seconds. The game has only ever crashed for me when trying to open up the charater/info tab.

I too have had issues - but not a full crash. More often than not, when I open and/or close the Inventory screen, it'll freeze for 5-10 seconds and then release me back into the game...

Many times when I open the inventory during battles the game freezes and then crashes. I hope they'll adress this issue in the next patch.

same here - inventory during battle causes crash. really annoying when you have about 3 minutes left of a 15 min battle.

Just bought game and playing it. All good apart from this inventory crash. Running Windows XP Pro.

This inventory (or skill, attributes, journal, whatever-book) crash is annoying the hell out of me. Easily reproduced by swapping characters and going into inventory/skills. i.e hit F1 - F4 then C-key.

same here; just started happening. runing Win7 64bit. BioWare need to release a fix for this as it makes that game unplayable! really frustrating

I experience this one quite a bit myself, I've tried a number of different video settings to see if it was more frequent with higher/lower textures or graphics quality... but this doesn't seem to provide any definite change in frequency. It DOES seem to happen more frequently in combat than out of it. But I also note that this happens somewhat often following a cutscene or dialogue sequence... as though the game is losing track of a reference to the specific character whose inventory is supposed to be opening. I suggest someone check that the function call to show inventory assigns the default (to hero, probably) if there is no character referenced via argument.

This also happens to me. It's completely random. The problem report is "Dragon Age has stopped working."

Same here. Opening inventory or any other tab (character, skills, etc.) during combat causes cras 99% of the times.
Only happens on this rig:
Athlon X2 64 5.8Ghz
4GB Ram
Geforce 8800GT 512
Windows Vista 64
I play with everything maxed out on this rig. The bug never occurred on my laptop, where I play with everything on low.

I have the same problem - frequent crashes when I open inventory during combat, even when not much is going on (such as before I start attacking). Has anyone managed to fix this?

I noticed that too, infact just spamming my inventory or any tab button I can cause to 100% a crash.

WTF! No fix for this? I was in a major battle preceded by a long cutscene. Now I have to go through it again. I've had this bug over 20 times since I began playing. WHY has this not been fixed!? Otherwise the game runs smoothly on my PC, so not performance related.
I've seen dozens of threads about this on multiple sites. This thread is a YEAR old. This is a high severity bug that occurs frequently. It should be fixed.

I m having the same issue only during battles where my herbalism menu (even with a char without the skill) will come an infinite number of times despite how many times I close it I can go to different menus and try to exit but it will return right back to the herb menu when I try to return to combat. Only way to get through the crash for me is to spam escape and enjoy the slide show and sore wrist going through combat 1-2 frames at a time until combat ends and the bug goes away.

in my cause I found one of my chars tactics was set to use herbalism skill when ally < x health.... so my issue is resolved. I think the 1.04 patch fixes most issues.

I'm playing the Steam version so I can say pretty confidently it is not solved.

I just got this game too and had this crash 3 times in a row! This is very sad it been over a year and this bug has not been fixed. Very pathetic and sad. Nice to know that the dev team cares so much. I like Bioware but this makes me re-think my position with them.

It has been a long time since I played a game that crashes as often as DAO. I got the "ultimate edition" as a christmas present.. Had I paid money for this, I would be REALLY annoyed!
Opening the inventory causes the game to crash!! Not every time, but every 20th time or so. What a joke this has not been fixed in over a year ! And the bonus-content copy protection also keeps annoying me, as I have to start the content-updater-service manually to use the benefits of the "ultimate edition"...
I use Win7 64bit; all other games are stable !! Bioware, wake up !
PS: Might this error be related to the annoying "dragon age updater-service" which checks for installed bonus content and such? I noticed it is not running anymore after the game crashes; but should be, because the game is not terminating correctly, thus not sending the process the "kill-signal" , am I right ?

I just reinstalled for another play-through of DAO and I'm having this same issue. I never had it when I played last year on another computer... though I think it was vista compared to now Win 7--which seems to be the majority if not all people's OS who experience this crash.
Nonetheless, WHY is this not addressed? Is it due to the imminent release of DA II?
We paid money for the first one, it should be ran properly please.

I also have this issue. My game has crashed 10+ times and I haven't even left Lothering. What's awesome is that I bought the original and had none of theses issues.
However the ultimate edition causes this crash to happen all the time! So I re-buy the game to get the expansion and all of the DLC and I'm rewarded with a game that's almost unplayable

I would like to add my voice to this, I bought Dragon Age Ultimate addition from the steam sale and crash when opening the inventory/character stuff. Lost about 1 hour of playtime today because of it, man was I pissed. Lets hope they fix it for DA2 as there will be no more patches for this game.

I too have random crashes in the game.
However, I have noticed that DAO takes up any and ALL available memory it can. It hogs the heck out of it. Indiscriminately.
If you look through the configure tool (its on the first screen when you click the icon - upper left button) you will see that it does this huge system inventory of your resources to figure out what it has available for use. If you open a browser window after the game is running, you have now encroached on what the game WAS using and I dont think it wants to SHARE any of its system resources. I have had multiple memory issues and crashes due to inadequate memory and I have a good machine (not great, but good). AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.80 GHz and 4.0 GB RAM with Vista.
I have had a little better success by going into the configure tool and going to the online tab and unchecking the "upload screenshots" button. This seems to keep the system occupied on your game and not busy trying to access the internet and upload in the background.
I think that a previous poster is onto something regarding the DLC check also. If you start the game logged in so you can access your content, then turn off the login (once started) the game seems to behave better. It will upload and update all your 'social' stuff when it reconnects. But this way it isn't constantly fiddling while you are trying to play.
Hope this helps in a some small way.
