Well I just finished my first playthrough of the game early this morning.  I got through (as a Renegade) with having full loyalty and only losing the professor (which I imagine happened because I only had him in my party once),  I think that was pretty good for my first playthrough, using no guides or whatever.  While the game has both things I like and things I don't, there are far more reasons to like the game than not - at least in my opinion.

LIKES

The game is quite a bit longer than the last game, thank god.  I didn't do EVERYTHING in my first playthrough, but I was satisfied when I clocked in at just under 50 hours (ME1 my first playthrough was 18 hours... :().  Much more satisfying.

The combat is way more natural and fast paced than ME1.  Granted, I am far from a twitch reflex FPS champ, but I had fun.  Sure, I died from time to time.  But in ME1 combat just felt like bang bang I win, ME2 I actually feel like I am in the middle of a deadly situation and am fighting my way to live and save the galaxy.  More heroic feeling you know?

The mission structure is way improved over the first one.  The recruitment & loyalty missions are just plain awesome.  Even side quests feel like they will actually effect the universe and aren't just the same thing with different names over and over again (like the side quests in ME1).

I really like the upgrade system.  Researching a new weapon or improvement makes a lot more sense than plugging in a part you find and, tada, your weapon is better.  The way it worked in ME1 felt too convenient.

DISLIKES

I HATE the scanning planets for resources system.  Yes its a cool idea, and I liked it the first planet or two.  But, when you need 50000 of an element and get 1200-1800 on a good spike on a rich planet, the system becames far too sluggish.  I'll prob never get the med lab upgrade because that's WAY too much mindless grinding for me.

I really don't like how you can't remove your helmet in dialogue.  I can understand when you are in a place where you need a helmet, but why do I have to wear my blood dragon armor helmet in Omega?  Makes no sense.  DA removed your helm in dialogue so it makes no sense that ME2 doesn't do the same.

UNDECIDED

The inventory system or lack of one.  I like the fact that you no longer collect zillions of the same crap pistol and then sell em to a vendor.  But not having any loot (other than ammo  and finding creds and stuff in chests) just doesn't feel very RPGish.  It also bugs me how you can't effect your squads armor.  Makes em feel more like NPCs than party members.

I can't decide if I like the new leveling system or not.  On one hand, I like how you don't have to level guys up just so they will be "caught up" and not be useless when you get someone new.  On the other hand, it feels too simplified and kinda takes away from the RPG feeling.

BOTTOM LINE

B+ to an A- 89-91/100)

I really like ME2, and I will, and have, reccomend it to all my friends and fellow RPG fans.:P
