Liara's transformation was quite jarring. I was never really interested in romancing her before but there's something a bit hot about how ruthless she is now. Unfortunately, it's also very sad. She's so obsessed she can't see anything else. Here's hoping we can rescue her from herself in ME3.

if you finish the quest, there is a nice little scene you can get where she breaks down. Very sad stuff and awesome pre-ME 2 info

:(

I know. My current femshep is in love with her... and it hurt to see how she went from geeky researcher to a cold, calculating woman in two years...

granted....she did have to recover her lover's body and turn it over to a known human supremicist semi terrorist organization to perform weird experiments on your corpse in the slim chance they could bring you back....

Plus, she had a good friend get killed....

I think... that'd change someone

Agreed, I felt terrible, but at the same time, I didn't love her anymore.

So my female Shepard went into the arms of Garrus.

I hope Liara doesnt hate me too much.

I'm hoping it'll all turn out ok in ME3.

I mean...I think part of ME2 is Shepard and his/her struggle to get back to his/her lover

Yeah, I finished her quests but she didn't do anything. Just sat there like a robot. Does she have to be a romantic interest from ME1 to get her to break down?

If you choose the proper dialogue options it reveals why she's so reluctant about you.

She was the one that found your body, and she gave it to Cerberus when they promised to revive you.

For me, the moment I saw and heard her I no longer knew who she was.

The fact that she was such a sweet heart in the first game makes it all the more troublesome to see her as she is now... like she lost her innocence. And once it's gone, you don't get it back.

usually i like these types of transformations, because usually the character annoys me in some way prior to becoming grimdark. but i liked liara's character in ME 1 and was kinda sad to see her become grimdark.

Yes, Liara did change, but I am okay with that especially she breaks down to explain herself to Shepard. The only thing that disappoints me is that we have no option to talk more to her. We have like 8 minutes of conversation for the whole game and that is it. It just doesn't seem realistic to me. Even if she is colder, this shouldn't happen b/c she still loves Shepard.

I didn't like liara In ME.But I met her in ME2 and It made me feel something for her. This Asari went through all that trouble just for you. She made sure your dead corpse wasn't ravaged by enemies and reapers alike. I was actually touched by her story. The reason she changed was because of the trouble she went to make sure you were going to be okay. I respect her. I lost one of my Shepard's so I'm going to haveto do a speed run (*sigh*) and this time I am going to give Liara a chance.

I wish though she looked more like other Asari. You know with the light facial markings. I think she would look more extoic and mature them :D

Yeah, I thought they should have changed her look a bit, since she's grown up a lot in two years. Either way, I just feel a need to get her off of Ilium and back on my ship.

she probably shouldn't change much. Remember that asari can live to well past 1000 years old. 2 years shouldn't change anything. Psychologically maybe, due to puberty and growing but physically, no.

Shortly after I started talking to her I lost all feeling I had for her, she changed way too much and is no longer the person my Shepard knew and cared for. When she busted out the "You haven't been here, you don't know what it's like." line I wanted my Shepard to say "Yeah how inconsiderate of me to be gone for 2 years... I was dead you insensitive ****!"

But Tali is there and just as adorable as ever so I will be happy with her, even if it is a more difficult relationship.

It wouldn't be quite so sad if she had at least some shred of credibility.

I'm fairly certain that Liara will make a return to the squad, and be a real love interest again in ME3. It will tie up the trilogy nicely.

She seems to have become more powerful too, would have been useful on the final mission. She should have come with us.

II romanced Liara in ME1 on PC. Now I'm playing ME2 on XBox360. No saves from ME1 to be had..... Do you think it's possible to continue the romance with Liara sans saves? Eventhough it's obvious the 'romance' is on hold to ME3? Like, will I get the same dialog options? What's everyone's opinion on starting a new romance instead? Is it worth it since I'm starting fresh on ME2?

Just curious......... Imma go see Liara after I get some side quests done so help me out folks! :D

I didn't romance her in the original ME1.  Instead I went with Kaidan.  However, despite her situation I helped her out.  I took some renegade hits for doing so, but it was the right thing to do.

Unfortunately, she's dug her own coffin.  Liara is extremely smart and very determined, but she's so very naive and quite young at that.

The fact that the Shadow-Broker is working with the Collectors is grim news and I'm afraid that Liara is waaaaaay out of her league.  Heck, her mother would have been out of her league.  I really don't expect Liara to survive without something drastic happening.

I wouldn't say she's become more "powerful."  Rather I'd simply say she's lost her innocence.  Outside that, she's still the same Liara that she was during ME1 and reminded me of a little girl trying to play big girl games.  Don't mistake bluster and bravado for competancy and experience.

Her obsession I think is her defense against giving into despair.  The problem is that she's locked into a battle that she cannot win alone.  I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, but I think that trying to help her out might have put her in even more danger than being spoon fed false information and played as a puppet.

Either way, it was a gutsy move by Bioware... making such a beloved (not really by me) character into something completely different.

Do you guys realize you're talking about a pixelated, Bioware made-up program? I hope no one has lost sleep over this stuff.

That is kinda how i feel about it. She was the quite uncomfortable inexperienced hot nerdy girl that i really liked in the first game. Now she is a mean ****. Like Benezia in the first one. Even used the same exact line that Benezia used. And i dont like that.

So yeah, in this ME2 Tali is the new Liara. The sweet young woman. Shame really. I will do another playthrough where i wont romance anyone and i will see how it will work out with Liara in ME3. I hope that i can help her to close that chapter of her life and she would get at least some of that sweetness of hers back. Damn shame to  loose a woman like she was in ME1.
