But Tali is one of the best characters they built. Very "human". And when you feel for a character then you know that the devs have succeeded in something that aint that easy.

I also love the fact that she has neither the ludicrous cleavage of Samara, nor the spray-on suit of Miranda - her appeal comes from the voice and personality.

Tali's was the only one that even came close, being mostly ruined by the fairly pervy way MaleShep says "Come here".

Female Shepards have better options. Garrus and Jacob seem like stand-up guys. Too bad Thane is dying or he would be a good choice too.
I romanced Miranda and tried to let Tali down easy.

His exaggerated facial features carry more emotion than any other character in the game and his voice work is superb. Minus FemShep's last line in the final romance scene, his arc felt the most genuine (followed closely by Tali and then Jack).

Thane, and I'm a completely straight guy. His relationship with FemShep seemed like the most mature and loving one out of the bunch and his final romance scene was easily the most passionate and emotionally affecting to me.
Although Garrus is permanently my love-interest, based purely on what was shown in the romance itself, I think Thane wins that competition. It works because Thane is more vocal about his sensitivity and willing to discuss the most vulnerable aspects of himself. In a way, for the short period of time Shep has known him, this is impressive since reaching this level of intimacy can take years for some people to achieve. Despite Garrus' respect for Shepard, he holds back on sharing his true concerns. [The players can guess his motivations by piecing together the ME1 events, but I assume Shepard doesn't have much of a clue until the end.]
From a long-term perspective, I'd choose Garrus -- his commitment and dedication to Shepard won't waver away anytime soon. You know he'll try every single option to keep the relationship thriving before giving up. I think the friendship-to-romance transition was handled fairly well. Suddenly developing feelings for your best mate is supposed to be hesitant, perplexing, and awkward. I just wished Garrus and Shep had a chance to exchange deeper thoughts on that topic, however. The Tali one nailed it perfectly.
For the shorter-term, Thane wins (even without his illness). The intimacy is there, however, he has yet to prove his complete trust of her. Infatuation, yes. Admiration, yes. So maybe we'll see more developement here for both Jacob & Thane in ME3 when they become acquainted with different aspects of Shepard. If she deviates from her ME2 persona, will they still stand by her?
Anyway, that's my interpretation on the matter.

Tali is my favorite person that I can have a relationship with, but she's not my favorite person to have a relationship with. IMO none of the crew except Miranda are a realistic choice for an actual relationship with a male Shepard. Kelly is too flighty, Tali has such an obvious case of hero worship that you know it'll end badly, and Jack is just plain nuts.

Huh, interesting. I agree Miranda's relationship will easily start out as the most mature. It will take some time for Tali and Jack (especially Jack) to reach the same level of relationship material. Not that it's impossible, but what is going to work depends the player's patience. Now you've mentioned, the FemSheps have the more resolute and independent love interests, even if they are seeming misguided. Luckily I'm ok with crazy and starry-eyed, so Jack & Tali are still my top choices. My Sheps are always self-possessed that it'd take more than youthful uncertainty to distract them.

I love the relationship because it is so inherently difficult. She adores you, and vice versa if you pursue it, but it's obviously a challenge. It's not easy. It's not "oh, let's get naughty to relieve some stress" because being IN that relationship is exceptionally stressful and risky.
But the fact that they can make it WORK, despite the uphill battle, despite the problems... I found that to be the greatest testament of love I've seen in a video game, or any medium, in ages. Miranda is beautiful, and Jack has that inner softness, but Tali puts her life on the line to love you. I can't say no to that.

I like Kelly too though, she's just so... natural, but I only ever flirted with her.

Well this is easy. Tali! Garrus is a close second though. We need to get the talimancers & garrusmancers going again to get them with major roles in ME3.

TALI.
The only drawback is that you're not going to get whatever huge payoff they have in store for those who stay with Ashley/Liara/Kaiden for the entire trilogy.
The huge payoff for romancing Tali is Tali.

indeed. my first playthrough, i went with tali. i was trying to woo miranda, but, when i saw possible intimate/romantic conversation options with tali, i dumped miranda in a heart beat and went with tali. my second play through, i TRIED my damndest to stay faithful to ash, but, talis line of "i never thought you could see past (points to mask)...this" and i dumped ash yet again. i sat there thinking to myself "here is a woman willing to risk her life to show you how much she loves you and cares for you. if that aint love, i dont know what is." damn you bioware for making perhaps one of the most compelling characters in video game history! DAMN YOUS!!!!
