All right i think the "old favorite" will be no one other than the MORRIGAN! :D
I think this because:

Oghren= You can kill him if his approval gets low enough ( i did)
Aliister= King or dead
Sten= Went back to his people or just dont recruit
Zeveran= You can kill when he betrays you or just kill him instead of recruiting him.
Shale= DCL (some people didnt get her)
Wynne= You can kill her if you choose to kill everyone in the mages tower.
Leliana= You can kill her if you choose to hide the urn and kill Brother Genativi.

Then that leaves Morrigan being the only you cant kill or kick out or youe party. :]

I can just see Morrigan with a pregnant belly fighting in battle xD
"waddle waddle waddle.... FREEZE CONE.... waddle waddle waddle"

I hope my/Morrigans baby is a boy x]

Morrigan and God-fetus (Awakening is only a few months after the end of DA:O) are out in the Frostback Mountains and as such unlikely to appear. I'd rather save that cliffhanger for a sequel, anyway.

My money is on Dog, or possibly Alistair/Loghain. Alistair seems like the kind of King to go gallivanting around the country fighting unholy terrors, and if Loghain becomes a Grey Warden he is now freed of any of his former responsibilities with Anora on the throne. Dog really has nothing to do but stay with the Warden, being the amazingly loyal canine he is.

I think people might get a bit too hung up on "it must be party member that can't die or leave". I mean, it's entirely possible to miss out on the vast majority of potential companions depending on your choices - you could go the entire game with nobody but Alistair, Morrigan, and Dog.

It could always be a non-party member character.

I agree. I don't know where it started, but sticking to the theory that it must be someone who can't leave/die seems to be a bit silly. It's been said that depending on your game played out, it will determine how the exp goes.

I really doubt that it will be Morrigan. But then you never really know. Although that Oghren "look alike" in the trailers has me wondering. I hope that was just thrown in to throw everybody off.

I imagine it will be dog. I mean it makes sense, every other companion has somewhere else they could go after the death of the archdemon. Where is the dog going to go other than follow you?

I hope it will be Morrigan. I'd like to see the Morrigan story resolved, especially since my character had a romance with her and then said he would search for her during the epilogue.

The 'Arl of Foreshadow's Notes' did have a line about Offspring and the Fade, I wonder if that is a cryptic reference to Morrigan's child. But the fact that more than half of the players probably didn't have a child with her I can't imagine that it will be the focus.

It's Oghren. He's in both trailers.

No, he wasn't put there as an early April Fools joke. The ads never said the companion was secret just that he was returning. Nothing is gained from putting Oghren into the game, making trailers, then taking him back out before release.

No one is saying it's a "trick" or a "joke". I think most people gather that the returning compainion is NOT a deifnite yet is because of this...

"there is one party member that returns that can join your party and
continue on. I think we're trying to keep that under wraps until a
little bit closer to launch though.
"

Taken from pc.ign.com/articles/105/1058656p2.html

While I believe that there is a high possibility that it is Oghren. It all still remains unknown speculation. No one knows anything definite.

Here's what I said in the other topic on the matter of Morrigan and Awakening.

--
I think most of us have this secret hope of seeing a cameo or at least
some insight on what she's really up to but wishing for her to return
as a companion is just... dreaming... no offense.

Did she gave anyone the impression that she want's to stay with the Wardens and keep fighting Darkspawn? No? I didn't think so.

Expect to see her in a sequel or something.

---

If there is a Dragon Age list of players out there that want's to see Morrigan again, trust me, I would be topping that list.

Hoping for a cameo is one thing but as full companion return?

Do  you seriously expect to see her as "the returning companion" after what happened in the end? Do you expect her to come back and say "Sorry for leaving. I don't want my demon child anymore, I just want to fight darkspawn with you and I promise I'll behave this time"

I think it was made clear that Morrigan is no longer a companion. Did you miss the "I'm leaving and I don't wanna be followed part"? She may not be an ally anymore.

IIRC we don't know that it's Oghren in the trailer - there's somebody that looks like him from the back but that's it. And again, Alistair is also in the trailer, so by that logic he's just as likely.

I'll stand by what I said before: it does not necessarily have to be someone that would be present at the end of every single Dragon Age game, and that while Morrigan is highly likely to play a role in the sequel, it's highly unlikely there will be anything more than a brief mention of her on the expansion.

Based on the videos it looks like Oghren, but based on what we know about the game I would guess Zevran. We know it's set in Amaranthine, where the Wardens are rebuilding their forces and it assumes that if the warden survived he's helping the Wardens rebuild. In all the endings I've seen, Zevran and Loghain are the only companions who have endings where they help with rebuidling and I don't think they'll choose Loghain.

Alistair is a cinematic, appropriate for a cameo appearance.  The possible Oghren is actually shown in the party, and...
http://www.gamespot....ckmarsh-trailer
this latest tralier shows a view from the front of that dwarf.  It's not very close, but Oghren has a unique look in the game, so it's either Oghren or his twin brother.

Of course they could still have just been playing with the models to trick us, but I can't see why they would bother to do it.  I really don't want it to be him though, excepting Loghain, there is no character I'd less want to see back in my party.

Whoever it is I hope its not Morrigan.

Oghrens great. I'd have preferred Sten, but Oghren will do. Hell, I'd prefer Zevran over Morrigan. She was a total *****, and I even played an evil character.

Uhhh.... But i killed Zevran and Loghain...

Dog could be a possibility but i dont think so... i will shoot myself in the foot if its dog... =.=
My dog was loyal but im hoping its someone that can talk.. or atleast has thumbs?

OMFG! If its Leliana i will be so mad! i will have to kill her AGAIN!
I absolutly hated her! She freaked me out! She was always talking about the maker and everything!
She was also kinda ugly (sorry if you liked her)

My girl was always Morrigan x]
She always made me see the bad side of things xD

I think it might be that there are 2 or 3 different charecter's that it could be depending on your choices. But I din't think it will be Morrigan, mabey she will appear near the end as part of the story but I don't think she will be playable while possibly carrying an Old God.
