I get an error message of "Mass Effect has Stopped working" right on startup after I have installed the game. I have tried several work-arounds, including reinstalling the game with drivers turned off, and extracting english.rar files from disc 2 directly to the ME2 homefolder, but nothing works. I still have the minimized program expand, screen go black, and then it stops working. 4 hours later, and I'm giving up for the night. Anyone have any suggestions? And how soon are the people responsible for the installer going to be fired?

if that doesn't work try disabling the cinematics. if disabling the cinematics work, then you hafta fix your video codecs

I'm hoping Bioware will get off their asses and fix this as well, since now I cant start the game either, even though I've been able to do so before :S

anyone found a solution yet? I updated my graphics drivers and turned off all the cinematic effects, but I can't find the exact toggle for just shutting off cinematics. Still no luck in getting it to run yet though.

I was having this same problem, on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

What worked for me was to uninstall the game, and install in a directory that isn't program files(x86). I installed it to C:\\games, which is a directory I made to install other games that have this similar problem.

I then made to that masseffect2.exe in the installed directory was set to always run as administrator. These two steps solved everything.

I tried ravenpoe121's method, and even extracted the english.rar to this output file. I have a feeling like not all of the files from the second disk are extracting.

Try updating your NET Framework

windows 7: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Or just manually run your automatic updates. This fix works on XP, don't know about Vista or 7 but worth a shot.

I tried checking for updates thingy on win 7, it didnt find it. Win 7 might not have it/need it. Framework isnt even supported by win 7 OS

i have the prob too.

ME2 worked first for me, but accidentally i installed in english.

i reinstalled and since then it wont start anymore.

did 3 reinstalls now, still fubar.

:-/

this sucks big time.

i suspect that it has to do wiht the copy protection / securom.

when i have NO disc in my dvd rom drives when trying to start the game i get a dvd authentication error at the same time when it uses to crash

I dont think this game got secu rom or copy protection. It got all the cdkeys and cerberus stuff to stop people from copying it

This sucks, I used to be able to play somewhat with crashes every 10 minutes (some graphics glitch that completely wipes the system). Then after I fixed that I play for an hour, game crashes and I can't even start it now. Reinstalled 2 times, tried disabling cinematics, updating everything there is to update.

Somehow I get the feeling its a hardware issue. Maybe bioware didn't test the older graphics cards, as I read a lot of people who get these problems have nvidia 8800 and 9xxx series cards.

Considering how great Dragon Age ran on my PC, I'm kinda disappointed with ME2...

8800 is an OLD card? <.< You got to be kidding.

Anyway, I got the same problem with Motocrossed, started with crashing, ended up with not being able to run the game at all

well considering its around 3 years old and not made anymore... I'd say it's getting old. Although it runs everything fine, I had a fan fail on mine so I mcgyvered a new 90mm one. And I don't think we should have to upgrade just to avoid game errors, assuming thats where the fault is.

Yeah I doubt that's the reason. If a game cant run a 3 year old card then that's some ****ty stuff they are doing there :P

Not necessarily upgrade, but computer maintenance is a necessity.

Please post your dxdiag.

Thanks,

I finally solved my issue (well kinda). To reiterate, my problems started with random in-game crashes, then after messing around settings and whatnot I was able to play for a while without crashes. When it finally did I wasn't able to start the game at all. Not even after reinstalling the game a few times.

The culprit turned out to be corrupted save files (aarrrgghhh!!!) Removing the whole saves folder allowed the game to start. On windows 7 its in the /my documents/bioware folder. Of course now I have to start from the beginning and still deal with the original problem of random crashes... but at least I can play 10 minutes at a time.

Hope that helps someone

For people who have problems running the game just after installing it, try turning off the User Account Control options in either Vista or Windows 7. That was certainly a problem the original Mass Effect had on PC installs, possibly this has carried over to ME2...

I did the same with my launch issue, I can now launch my game again, though I still experience the crashes. I acually took a copy of the save files though and transferred them back so I could keep on going.

Though I lost all my achivements. But I dont like these crashes, since I have to reboot my entire computer every time. That cant be good on it
