I have the same problem with the Reaper Core and the pretorians. I don't have 2 cores in my processor, maybe this caused the problem. I think we need a patch for the 1 cored computers.

This issue can be traced back to three things so far:

1.Reaper Core

2. Pretorians

3.Abandoned Space Station (Experimental Armor beam puzzle)

All of them having electric effects.

i think its a texture or material that the 3 things use that crashes the game

Everyone seems to have Nvidia cards too. I'm running a GeForce 9400 GT. Do we need a patch from bioware or nvidia? Or in other words, who should I be pestering about this?

i think i have found a solution. turn off all sound via mass effect 2 settings and masseffectconfig.exe. and look at the laptop on the left side of the room when the shield on the reaper core closes.

worked for me hope it works for u

Ugh, just experienced this crash. This is getting ridiculous; is there any way to turn off the glowing effects that cause the crash?

I found the solution. Play the game in windowed (borderless works) mode. It works just fine. I even killed Praetorians and fought in the Reaper core with no trouble

I've been playing in windowed! :X Will try it full-screen, and borderless, to see if that makes a difference.

Exactly, who the hell should we be pming the problem to? no bioware official has answered any of the many threads.

i usually played with 1440x900 with full screen with everything on...but i never had the crashing problem till i got to the part where i have to blow up the reaper core.

after countless amounts of attempts to get past it i finally found the solution for my laptop(Qosmio X305-701)...i dont know if it will work for everyone...but this is what i did.

on the reaper core part...i turned off Phys-X on the Nvidia Control panel. Then i set the game to Windowed mode, then i turned all the effects off like Bloom effect and shadows and everything else below it. and i turned the resolution down one from where i usually play.

when i got to the part where i had to blow up the core...i killed all the husk that got in my way. and as soon as the core opened up, i fired the Cain Rifle with my back towards the door i came in. as soon as i shot it, i turned around to face the door away from the core before it actually hit the core. i had to skip the scene after the core blowing up because when i tried to watch it, it too crashed my laptop...=( but i dont care about the scene as long as i got through to the next part! now time to finish the game! i hope that helps someone! Good luck to the rest of you all...BioWare isn't doing anything about this issue...so i guess we have to figure it out ourselves.

Just in case you didn't see the other threads, this problem stems from Nvidia handling intense blue colors, like the praetorian eyes or the reaper core.

Going to fullscreen mode got me through the reaper core battle. I have a nVidia 8600M GT (yeah, laptop) running 32-bit Vista. Driver version: 195.62

Hope any of this helps.

Nothing of posted here helps. Still crashes regardless of mode and position of camera. If I try to look on the door I can reach till 2nd wave of husks but thats it.

I had the same problem, If you have Mass Effect 1, de authorize it, back up your saves to another folder, and uninstall. do not keep settings or saves (that's why you back them up to another file location.) after that, it worked fine for me. I figured it out by going through my own timeline of program installs on my computer. My ME2 crashes started at the same time I installed ME1. ( i got a new hard drive, and imported my saves from a backup without installing ME1) My guess is that somewhere in ME2, there is a wrong filepath indicated in the engine settings, probably a typo as the documents folder for ME1 and ME2 differ only by one character ("Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect 2") after a given amount of time, the game will look at the wrong folder and crash.

my guess might be wrong, but the solution works for me.

I found when fighting Praetorians that things only seemed to crash when I was taking Cover. (I was able to work around the issue with Windowed Borderless mode and audio disabled.)

i had the same problem.

i turned off all graphik effects, lowered the resolution to 1152 x 852, Window mode, normal, and turned off the sound ingame and in the cofiguration.exe.

also looking at the door when the core was closin might have helped.

I did it by not moving into the room and just hugged against the backdoor. I did this for every map that kept crashing on me.

Hi, I was hoping someone found the solution to this. The only time it ever crashes for me is when the Praetorian appears. It happened on Horizon (I eventually beat it without it crashing) and again on the Collector Ship. I've tried playing it in 800x600 windowed mode and fullscreen; nothing works.

I honestly think I just got lucky on Horizon (I was using an Athlon single core).

.:Specs:.

Core 2 Duo

Nvidia 8400gs

3GB RAM
