It reveals *how* Shepard comes to his/her conclusion. Memories would show locations visited, conversations had, etc. Children can *believe* in Santa Clause, but searching through their memories reveals nothing but what they were "told." Shepard can show what has been "experienced." That's my point.Vendrin wrote...

Somewhat related--this idea has been bothering me for a while now (a few weeks, maybe). I was wondering, if the Council seeks proof so badly, why don't they have the asari councilor or someone else "meld" or do what Liara did with Shepard in ME1 to access his memories/thoughts? I mean, sure there's the risk of having the asari be just as confused as they believe Shepard to be once they access his thoughts, but that is just silly and is less reasonable than the denial they currently wield. Plus, if the councilor did it, would the turian and salarian really doubt her so strongly as they do Shepard? And couldn't she transfer the memories/thoughts she receives akin to Shiala's transferral of the prothean cipher?
The only reason why I ask is because I wonder if this has been asked before now, and I'd really like to have a good reason as to why it cannot be done so I can stop thinking about it.
Good question, actually.
All that proves is that Shepard believes it, nothing more.
Tell Council to F off? or become Spectre again?

Assuming the Prothean vision is still in Shepard's head, it's even more than that. Judging by Liara's reaction to it, it should be easily distinguishable from ordinary memories. At the very least it should raise some serious questions about the origin of that vision.Kekse2k wrote...

Only reason you wouldn't take it is out of irrational anger or something (from an RP perspective, hope you don' t actually get angry lol).
Otherwise, it can only be an advantage.
That's basically why I did it. From a roleplaying perspective my mainShep just couldn't handle being told that everything he accomplished was based on a lie. F*ck the council for that, even though turning them down is ultimately detrimental.

no changes noted, that was the last I heard from them. However I suspect something will come up in ME3.
Yeah in ME3 emails you receive will be "To: Spectre Shepard" instead of "To: Commander Shepard". Choices and consequences folks.

I did it, just because. You never know when you might need it.
This. You may only have gotten a use out of it during the interrogation on Thane's mission, but you never know when it will come in handy in ME3. The alternative from ME1 was to have a human empire, which turned on you worse than the council ever did. No need to burn those bridges. The Council knows you're working for Cerberus, which is considered treason. The fact that they made the gesture in the first place shows they really appreciate being saved.

The difference is mostly cosmetic, but it's there. We'll see in ME3 if the difference stays cosmetic.Cyberfrog81 wrote...
People keep bringing the Thane scene up, but that means absolutely NOTHING. A character that never met the Council and never was reinstated as a Spectre, can still pretend she/he is above the law.
Anyway, you'll have to be a Spectre to do the Shortest Interrogation in History. They should've made that one an achievement, lol.

IOW, it is enough that Kelham believes Shepard is a Spectre, it doesn't have to be true.

An absolute crime that BioWare pissed away all the awesome potential the Spectres had in ME2.
