I heard a theory that Reapers have two different appearences, an interior and exterior. The "Human" reaper would've been the interior and the exterior would look similar to Sovereign.

I disagree with that as if you look at Sovereign, he looks like one of our squids.  So who can say that there was some sort of advanced squid civilization and the Reapers made that species into a Reaper.  That human Reaper was probably only the first one to be built and the Reapers would have eventually used our entire species into making more Reapers.  Not to mention a human reaper would have a great advantage over other ships due to the hands aspect.  He could literally grab another ship and throw it.

I didn't say that Sovereign was a giant squid, I said that probably whatever race was melted down to make him was somewhere inside the large squid interior. It explains how all reapers look alike, the human reaper would've eventually been built into a squid form after it was completely built.

LIke if you watched a movie and they eventually reached the core of a mother ship and turns out the core is a giant robot or something, similar premise. The only reason they actually require the genetic material is to form a perfect blend of living and cybernetics. Legion explained it well, "one ship, one will, many minds" giving hints that the Human Reaper had all the minds / knowledge and such of the humans it had consumed.

I know what you're saying but it makes more sense that the Reapers we've seen was based off a squid based civilization.  The size of that human-reaper would have been very hard to fit inside another shell and it makes no sense why they would do that it the first place if they could just build the humans into the shell in the first place. EDI says that the DNA has an effect on the production process which pretty much means that the Reapers look like whoever's DNA they used.  We've only seen three to four Reapers out of possibly tens of thousands of Reapers.

ROBO SHEPPARD, ATTACK!

As a side note, Reaper design is simple. One word.

Cthulu.

Sure, they'll probably explain it in-game with a lore correct explanation. But design wise?

I think you're onto something. The disquieting part of this is, though, that somebody else wanted humanity's best qualities to be used as weapon: the Illusive Man. He demanded Shepard's personality, memories, and values be intact after the revival. Illusive Man also wants the reaper building machine in Cerberus' hands. It's possible he might desire to truly weaponize Shepard, turning the good Commander into a Colossus of synthetic humanoid might.

Right, and he may be looking at it from the opposite perspective, but with same outcome.

human + reaper = ultimate power.

HAHA! I Knew that I was right when I said that the Reapers where actually giant cuttlefish-bugs. This just means that there were other non-Reaper cuttlefish-bugs too!

Yeah, it was a bit disappointing. I was expecting some really disturbing flesh/metal creature....and I get the Terminator Galactus. Rest of the game was sublime though.

I would hope that they were going to use that peace to assemble one of those Praetorian Husks. Which I could totally see flying through space.

Well, obviously. From a creative standpoint, it's patently clear that the reapers are meant to be Lovecraftian monsters. Their motives are incrompehensible to mortals, they look like big cephalopods, they come from the black depths beyond the edge of the universe, etc.

As long as they give me a giant laser shotgun, I might consider it. Also, they need to turn Tali into a reaper, too, so we can have giant sex.

I don't see what was so funny/disappointing about the end boss. I thought it was cool as hell. When I saw a giant human looking terminator thing being made, I was like holy ****, I don't have to fight that thing, do I???

The end fight was amazing. I just wish I didn't get so many people smoked on my run through.

Why it was built:

The Reapers were blocked from flooding into Citadel Space thanks to Shepard two years ago in Mass Effect 1. Now they need a new way to kill everything, but they have no way of flying right in, since they are in Dark Space, hundreds, if not thousands of light years away from anything. They cant just fly into citadel space, it would take too long (if they could they wouldnt need the Citadel Mass Relay). So they somehow contact the collectors, contacting them probably isnt a problem as the Normandy can contact the Illusive Man from where ever in the galaxy. Anyway, the Reapers "hire" the Collectors to build a new reaper thats already in Citadel Space.

Easy concept here, its like a sleeper cell agent. But building one.

So the Collectors harvest humans and turn them into resources to build a smaller reaper, made of humans. Perhaps they are basing off the concept of a husk, use their own people to kill them. Its like seeing a child with an ak-47 in iraq, cant be more than 10, obviously it'll have a shock factor on you. A good fear tactic, and way to demoralize an enemy. Perhaps the Reapers also wanted the Collectors to use humans as the reapers, id imagine, are super pissed at humans.

That's my two cents.

I actually liked the idea. Sure, imagining a giant metal human flying through space is a bit stupid. But perhaps the Reapers can assume different forms. I too was expecting something like "Join us and we will make you perfect". But since this is unexpected, I like it. Now they have to tweak it a bit in ME3 and make sense of it.
The line "We are your salvation through destruction" implies something. Perhaps the Reapers want to immortalise every species by transforming them into one of their own. At least those fit enough.

Yeah "We are you salvation through destruction" would be saying that in order for humans (or any other organics) to escape the cycle of life and death, through their destruction being liquified they would be saved from the cycle by becoming 'immortal' Reapers.

P.S. as i wrote "or any other organics" I think we would have accepted the Asari more for becoming the new reaper ships because of how their heads look, but then it doesnt fit with the story line as us playing a human.

I don't see the problem with it, but it was way too easy to kill on a normal difficulty.

It'd stop being funny pretty quickly when we smashed through the reaper fleet, or a planet, mid-coitus. Either that, or it would become a lot funnier.

Obviously, the tactical advantage of mid-battle doggy style would be that we could share the power of our mass effect drives to strengthen our eye beams and mouth cannons.

This time, when Tali gets all hot and heavy and jumps on Shepard, she will crush a few planets in the process.

ROFL.

As an aside, was that not so awesome when she just lunged at Shepard like that? I was amused and aroused all at once.

Yeah, I thought the vids from the Cerberus consoles on the Collector ship mission had a very Lovecraftian feel. Dreams of dead gods, insanity, etc.

I agree... I mean, I honestly have no problem with a human reaper.... But does it really have to look like a Human? Imagine that flying through space, god that'd be so awkward. Lol.

In space any shape will do. aerodynamics are not a concern. I thought making a Reaper in the form of the species that it was composed of was pretty awesome. I wonder if the original Reapers were made of a race that looked like Cuttlefish.

PS: The "Reaper" is so small because as was stated in game it's basically at an embryo level of development. It's nowhere near complete. If it was finished how the hell would you have beat it on foot?

Why would the reapers hire the colectors? they were once the protheans and now they are under reaper control a la Harbinger who leaves the body of the Collector Overlord just as the station blows up. Also they are not in Citadel Space... they are at the center of the Galaxy; not in terminius or alliance space.

As for the ending boss... yea a lil cheese but all in all still fun and they tried to explain it. Im thinking it will work out in the end. Also the last scene of all the colectors massing just outside the galaxy... haunting.
