I tried looking for a similar topic, so my apologies if there is already a post somewhere about this.

Is there any way to play ME2 for PC offline if you have the DLC installed?  I linked my EA account, redeemed my codes, etc, and installed all of the DLC.  Now, however, if I try to start the game while offline, it will tell me that DLC could not be verified, and I can't load any of my saves!

I connect to the internet through mobile tethering.  It's a real pain to have to connect every time I want to play the game, and there are times when I'd want to play when I wouldn't have any internet access.  There has to be some way around this, right?

Help me ME2 forums, you're my only hope.

There are other topics on this, but none of them answer the question, as far as I can see. I'm having the same issue, and I totally agree. I can't afford to have my computer constantly online (I have wireless, with a data cap....) Hope someone at BW comes up with an answer soon.

This seems like either an oversight, or DRM gone awry. I'm not the sort of person who claims that all DRM is evil. I expect things like online checks for verification and all. But having to check every single time, making it impossible to play a single player game offline? That seems a bit harsh.

I really hope Bioware or EA release a fix for that, or that I'm simply missing some super secret option to be able to play offline.

You can play it offline whenever you want. Turn off your I-Net connection and play the game. If you don't want Cerberus to connect with the I-Net automatically then you can turn it off in the online-game options.

They are talking about the DLC, not the base game. I think the DLC uses a different type of copy protection that requires you to connect to the internet when you run it. Sorry I don't have a solution for you guys.

What should be the difference? You download the DLC, install it and then you can play offline. What is the problem?

issue the the DLC "phones home" every time you run the game and if it cant make contact it turns it self off which IMO is BS but such is life

it should just validate once and work but no EA is being a dick

From what parts of the different available DLCs you are talking? I have the DLC installed which I bought with the game and it doesn't deactivate when I am offline.

It doesn't deactivate for me either, it just gives an error message for Cerberus network, but loads everything fine. Tried a few times.

Unfortunately it seems some people can't play the DLC offline. Maybe it depends on the game edition (retail, DL one?)

Here is what I did.

Go online and load a savegame with DLC content.
Disable the internet connection while you are playing this savegame.
Be sure that you are offline and save the game.

Next time you can load this savegame offline.

Worked for me at least.

Wow, this actually seems to work!  Thanks.  Though, not sure if this will persist through different save games, new game files, etc.  This workaround should work for now, but I still really hope they remove the automatic check every time you start the game.

And for people saying they're not having this problem, from what I've been able to tell from my friends, people who have the steam version don't have it.  Only people running the retail box version, or like me, the boxed collector's edition, seem to run into this problem.

My game is a retail box one, and I can play DLC offline, but when I first lost the internet connection I was just in game (and made a save offline, too). So it could support the above theory. Good idea WeamDreaverx!
No problem playing on from that save since, net on or off, DLC is accessible all the time. So hope it will work for everyone here.

No such luck for me. Everything works online, but I'm told I can't verify cerberus DLC OR Terminus and Collector armor when offline, no matter what saves I use, when I load them, or when I went offline. Also tried exiting antivirus software and so on. Didn't work either, and even if it had I would have been real annoyed. Why should I make my own machine vulnerable to play a game I payed for....

BTW, I have the Collector's edition. Did anyone else have that problem activating Cerberus, where you enter the code on the card and are told you can download the Collector's armor, whould you should already be able to do? EA support says that problem was rectified (and I do seem to have Cerberus ingame) but my profile here seems to indicate Cerberus hasn't been activated. Weirder and weirder.

I have the retail version and like I said no problems.

xWeamDreaverx advice works, but only until i switch off my computer, the next day it's again starts demand a connection to internet. Such paranoid protection brings nothing but headache to users, nice work EA, torrents full of mass effect 2 dde and pirates haven't any problems, why should we suffer?

Same problem here. Retail box version, using the Zaeed and Blood Dragon armour DLCs. If I start ME2 when I am offline, and try to load a save game, it says the DLC is missing and will not load. It's a bit of a crock that a single player game requires an active internet connection.

(bump)

Hmmm, odd. It works for me even when I switch off my pc and keep it off a day.

It seems as though it is exactly like the Dragon Age fiasco last year, some people are affected others are not. Either way EA/Bioware need to sort this crap out, especially for us who have paid extra for some DLC (ie collectors etc) and not to mention bloody pirates have ZERO problems at all and they havent even bought the b*stard!
