Besides, does it even matter what level you are? This is not WoW. Just play the game, have fun with classes, etc. Maybe the cap will get higher with the DLC and expansions?

I started with a level 60 Vanguard from ME 1 and did every possible mission and explored every possible planet before doing the IFF recovery mission. I was level 30 before the end of the game. This was on a PC. My first playthrough was also on Casual. Yeah, I'm a wuss but I'm currently running through on Insane with an Adept.
I explored about 50% of the worlds and only have done 3 N7 Missions but I have completed every main world side quest and all loyalty quests and just did the IFF recovery mission and I am 28 so I still have like 10 more N7 missions to do I will hit 30 before the Omega Relay.

Honestly I'd rather see it upped to 50-60. 30 is really low if you can hit it in 20hrs after one run through the game.
No real incentive to keep playing, whereas with ME1 you got more bonuses etc as you kept leveling.
Well, you could get to max level in ME 1 in 20 some hours, and you could get to max level in KoTOR in 20 some hours, but yeah, I suppose it should be a while longer for an "epic" RPG.

Anyone else find it extremely sad that there are people playing ME whose apparent primary incentive for playing the game is getting a higher level or finding a piece of loot with slightly higher statistical superiority?
The implications here are staggering. This means you don't enjoy playing games unless they give you a shiny reward, no matter how pointless, to keep playing. Why the hell play this game then? It's obvious as hell its not a game catered to character building via equipment and stats, and if you need *incentives* to keep playing, you are obviously not enjoying the primary purpose of having the game.
So why? Why subject yourself to the grating horribeleness that is ME gameplay for you? There are tons of great games that do the exact thing you want in terms of character progression.

I've just finished ME2, my first playthrough, importing my lvl 60 ME1 standard Shepard, and I've turned 30 just at the end of the game, completing the final mission, and for that (imported maxed character = start at lvl 4) I think that it's quite good..
That doesn't preclude any replayability, it just adds imho a new way to look into customization, since you can't get almost everything as you did with ME1, and that imho is a really good thing.
Before I'll start to replay it over and over, I just want to say something:
THANKS BIOWARE! That's the best movie I've ever took part! It's just an epic experience, and unlikely some said, it's more enveloping and cinematically involving than its predecessor

I think I went up to level 30 during a loyalty quest just after the IFF mission and just before the relay. The last bits from the IFF to the end were a bit of a blur as I did them at around 4 in the morning because I was sure I just had to go that little bit more to finish.
Edit: The post above me sounds about right. It was either at the end of the Loyalty quest or just after going through the relay. I'm pretty sure it was just before the relay though.

Incorrect LuPom, transfering a lvl 60 makes you level 5 not 4, but yes it is extremely easy to max level in Me2 with an import character.LuPoM wrote...
Way too easy? Without importing your ME1 lvl 60 character I doubt so..

I also imported another chara (starting level 5) and focused on doing all the side missions and it took me forever to make level 30, i leveled up faster just doing the main missions and some side missions then doing as many as possible.

In one playthrough you won't get to level 30, expecially if it's the first.. you can get 30 only if (even if it's the first playthrough) you import your ME1 lvl 60 character.. That way I've hit 30 just before facing the very last part of the game.
That's my opinion anyways.. for me it's fine this way and there's no need in rising it..

since there is so little to do on ME2 they lowered the level cap.
after about 10 hours i can be done with most of the main missions, but i have done very little else and hardly any upgrades. as long as i dont do the a certain main quest which can start the final mission i can put another 10 hours into the game and have everything i need (all upgrades and missions) done.
