Yup. I'm unclear on whether that results in data being saved for ME3 though . . .

Based off the NG+, you can import any save after the credits, not just some hidden file like ME1.

I have a feeling that what ever the last autosave you have is what will import into ME3 or you can use to do an ME2 import.

So after you complete the suicide mission and do some other N7 mission you generate an autosave. And that what the Importing tool uses.

But you can only use this autosave once for an import.  You'll need to beat the game again to create a new Import autosave.

Incorrect sir, If you look at NG+ it uses ANY SAVE after the suicide mission. So no need to beat again, do what you want after you finish then just save and import. Assuming the ME3 is like ME1 and uses the files you can use for NG+ as the groundwork

Unfortunately, aside from the minor sidequests you may have missed there's not much to do after the main quest is over. Still, I'm very happy that they decided to give us the option this time around instead of just ending it like in ME1.
