We dont know yet. I dont think ME3 has been officially announced.
We can speculate, but that's it.

I'm pretty sure it creates a separate career, so that you could choose to import either into ME3.
And yes, ME3 has been officially confirmed. The series has been a trilogy since before the first game even came out, and one of the loading screen tips in ME2 even tells you that you can import your saves into ME3.

Well they did say that before ME2 came out, they were already at work on ME3. Since EA gave Bioware more personne,l and ME2 only took 2 years, I would assume ME3 would be around early 2012. Luckily they don't need to upgrade the engine or graphics as it still looks quite good. That will save them time.
They did say to save all your saves so that your ME trilogy will be unique to YOU. How I play it won't be how you did so you and I will see different things as we go through.

i don't know, so many choices, i'm going to have to play the first game 2 more times and get everything really different, then the second then finall the thrird to see how it all unfolds into a mega mash of awesomeness and WTF?ness no matter what choice you make there will be an upside and downside so don't take your choices too seriously.
